Agree with most of your points except the use of front brakes part. front braking is very important in riding and only a fool full slam the front brakes to the full .. nobody does that even on a bicycle or unless trying a stoppie. Front braking helps in shedding speed faster and combined progressive braking really keeps the bike from unwanted skids. To illustrate my point- front brakes act as if somebody is trying to stop the bike from the front.whereas rear brakes is like somebody tryin to pull the revving bike from the rear (+add rider's body weight)

You missed the point here. The idea of not using front brake for noob is to avoid that "full slam" on front brake. Noobs tend to panic when they encounter another people do a sudden turn. So it's best to tell them to stay away from front brake. Ride at safe speed and use the rear brake only for new riders.

In my rookie years i always kept the bike straight while braking and then release the brakes and turn. I've learned so much with this now over the years so i tried to search for the limits. You can brake really late but you got to be one with your bike. Know your bike, know your front brake power. Motorcycle riding is not only the best thing in the world, but it is so complicated and difficult that you learn something new everytime you go out. 4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul :-)

Another great tip that has to do with being new, but not really riding: When you push your bike around, always try to lean it towards you. Never be too close to the bike, or you might end up tipping its balance to the other side by accident and you will have no way of saving it. Nothing feels worse than realizing you tipped your bike too far on the opposite side, and all you can do is let go of the handlebars and look as it falls down. :c

Still a bullshit.. So you're telling the noobs to use rear brakes? Lol. I'd better have no rear brake and just use the front one, cause the rear one can break nothing, plus it easily locks the rear wheel which is dangerous. If you move your weight to the rear, it's usually pretty difficult to get into the trouble with front brake. And in turn? Well, a noob is not gonna bend so low, so there won't really be a problem with the bike straightening in the curve.

I am now a biker for 1 year and a travel distance of 5.000 miles - and I am proud I made almost no beginner mistake BECAUSE of videos like this (to know what to take care of) and because I used my head since the very first moment to start riding. Not having my bike fall over, not getting into dangerous situations and whatnot while I still ride fast and "actively" as I like to say. I think a key element is to always have your mind running while running on 2 wheels. It's not like I have magical skills out of nowhere, I simply think about how to do shit right. Especially meaningful when doing something as dangerous as riding a powerful bike. Or any bike for that matter. However, as a beginner, I got me a brand new 13K bike. And I thought "hey, I am a new biker, it could happen that I will fall" and I had me some side protectors installed for 200 extra bucks. Turned out, I never had my bike fall over (not standing and not riding) but some asshole rammed it and it fell over. So those protectors took all the force and barely even got scratched themselfes. Long story short: Something I had installed because of seeing my own skills critically, actually saved me lots of money for different reasons.
@TURBOTWINKIE
@TURBOTWINKIE 6 лет назад
Yep I did the same, I watched a bunch of RU-vid crash and tip videos, they actually helped me tremendously, I managed to learn a lot of other people's mistakes. I didn't even come close to dropping my bike once, I probably should have installed frame sliders on it just in case, but luckily nothing happened. I did just buy a newer motorcycle and I'll be definitely be installing frame sliders, to prevent the situations similar to yours from happening. Thanks for tip and commenting I really appreciate it! :)

I'd actually recommend using the front brake for trail braking, especially when you are new and haven't yet figured out what speeds to enter turns in. Light trail braking can really save you from bad mistakes.
@FredricF
@FredricF 6 лет назад
It's perfectly safe to use the front brake in a corner, IF you know how to do it. Many bikers, however, do not know how and have never practiced it but the worst thing that can happen is a lowsider or that you drift out (which may be really bad if there is oncoming traffic) That said, most bikers are never near the traction limit and if it is possible to brake, is also possible to tighten the corner. This is easier but will also take practice. You should practice as much as possible, preferably on a track. On the other hand it's bad idea to use the rear brake in a corner, since this will greatly increase the risk of a highsider, that's not good. As soon as you apply any brake the weight, and traction, will shift toward the front wheel leaving the rear wheel with less traction. This make it easy for the rear wheel to skid and if you at this point release the brake the rear wheel will regain traction and if the bike travels sideways it will flip the rider off. Highsider.
@zeroline19
@zeroline19 6 лет назад
FredricF this is for NEW RIDERS ffs. They lack experience. All theories will be forgotten when these new riders are panicking.
@FredricF
@FredricF 6 лет назад
Yes, new riders, and old riders, make mistakes. That's why you practice. And while experience is good, practice is better. For example, many riders with 20+ years of experience have never tried to brake in a corner. Track riders almost always brake in corners and a couple of track days, with an instructor, will make marvels for most riders riding skills.

you need some parking lot practice. first in straights, then in circles. you'll get the hang of it. if you brake too hard and slow too much, yes, you fall inwards and lowside the bike. it's a delicate balance that takes practice, like the violin or some such. you gotta know your brakes. this is why also, you should always take it easy when you get a new bike, everything's different and it will not act the same if you try and ride it like the old bike. all new timing and pressures to learn with clutch, brakes, throttle, weight, wheelbase, etc.... what kind of bike you got? where you at?

A general rule for any vehicle (even regular pedal bikes) is to always brake before the turn, not mid turn. Same for accelerating. Any thoughts on this? I don't ride myself but I plan on riding soon enough, so I don't really know too well.
@zeroline19
@zeroline19 6 лет назад
Braking on mid turn is okay as long as you aren't full slaming it. What you shouldn't do on mid turn is pulling the gas as it can cause friction on your rear tire. Generally, you should lower the speed when you turn.
@Infaviored
@Infaviored 6 лет назад
You are totally right.
@lespearson3801
@lespearson3801 5 лет назад
A motorcycle will not abide by any of the general rules of other vehicles you have driven. Go in with an open mind and willingness to learn and fall a lot. In general when you start you will deccelerate and do all your braking before entering a turn. In mid turn you will use maintenance throttle to hold a smooth set speed, and accelerate a bit exiting to help bring the bike up. This is ok for the first few months. You will want to quickly progress to the safer and more controllable steering paradigm of trail braking. It will save your life in corners. Watch how to's on it. I've explained it a million times and a few good videos would show you better. I recommend everything Motojitsu has on RU-vid.
@vali69
@vali69 Год назад
It's actually more like 90% of the braking you do before the turn, and the rest from the start to the apex. Braking compresses the suspension and this helps in turning, both on bikes and cars, but not full slam, just barely engaged. This is called trail braking and it's even used in formula 1, not just on bikes.
@mvl71

I don't know where you're from, but here in the Netherlands you only get your license after a pretty hard test. Three tests, in fact. 1) theoretical (traffic rules) 2) bike handling and control 3) traffic participation (actual road test) After that, depending on your age, you get an A1 beginner's license, allowing you to drive a bike of at most 125cc and 11kw, after that you get A2 (35kw), and finally, after a few years experience, license A (no limitations on power or engine size).

I mostly use my front brake. Just don't apply the front brake suddenly, and as you lean more, brake less. Better to enter a turn slow and exit fast than to enter fast, run wide or hit some gravel and go wheels up. On a clean road, trail braking with the front brake can improve traction and get the bike to turn a little sharper while allowing you to fine turn your speed. Most of the braking should be done before the turn though. The slowest point in the turn should be the apex when the bike is leaned the most.

Sorry u can use front break in turn if u know what ur doing. If ur beginner it might not be a good idea because with too much pressure, u might lock ur wheel or put too much pressure on the front, then u will low slide. But I’ve been driving 13 year now and believe me I break with front all the time if necessary. Key! Be gentle with the break as with the throttle and u will be good.

I DAMN agree with not front braking while turning. My rear tire slipped and i almost crashed. But it felt cool and has the sensation of panic when im about to fall down. I kinda drifted a little, but never ever front brake.

The part about the exhaust pipe isn't really true.
@Schomyly
@Schomyly 6 лет назад
Romano Sparks But it's not such a big lie, I mean if you buy a new exhaust, you will just get great sound, if you want more horsepower, then you should map the bike and put some sporty air filter, because exhaust is there to allow more gas to come out from the engine and there will be no if your air filter is stock and there is no more fuel added to the mixture.

Loš mi installing just an air filter won't be enough. Your engine tend to heat faster. Install some fuel injection module for your bike also.

I do agree that new riders should not use their front brake in a turn, however you can do it (carefully) in emergency situations. I have done it many times. Even once or twice trail braking all the way to the apex.

now I agree for the most part, but 2:30 not using your front brake in a turn is even more deadly... get to know your front brake by just using one finger to brake, then you will learn the critical point far easier than when using your entire hand. Also rather brake into corners, and don't decide mid corner to brake.

Liked the video...however, granted that a new rider may squeeze the front brake too hard, a progressive brake with the use of the front end will be more effective than tail braking and.... a hard squeeze on the back brake while lock the wheel. So, it's not that simple of a recommendation.

Use should use front breaks on the turn. Master the trail breaking techniques if you want to have good control on turns. Again it's not about grabbing front breaks in the middle of the corner 👍

Any other experienced riders click just to see of they still do something noobish? My tips. 1 dont do burnouts. Unless you are experienced, know how to do them and most important : be ready to replace some expensive parts. 2. Start small. You can get a big bike next. Just dont go bike right away. Id even say get an older bike (early 90s late 80s.) 3: rubber and brakes. Dont cheap out and make sure they are good. Doesnt matter how you plan to ride or how far you are going to ride. This to me are the most important things to stay on top of (next is steering and suspension) Cheers. Safe riding. And dont show off.

Well now I know what I did wrong back then (about 10 years ago) I bought a bike off this guy for about $250 it was in bad shape I figured I’d use it to learn to ride I didn’t have anyone to teach me and I never thought to look online for advice. I applied the front brakes in a turn I had a pretty bad wreck, ended up In a coma for a little over 3 weeks. I didn’t have a helmet on because I didn’t have one (yup I’m an idiot). I don’t remember the wreck but I do remember applying the front brakes in a turn haha. Been Skeched out about bikes since but have been wanting to try learning again and doing it properly this time around.

Well I have a Grom because it is every 16 year olds dream but my dad and I did the basic mods: fender eliminator, mirrors, and an after market exhaust (for around $100 on Amazon) because we plan on selling it later and upgrading to a Ninja 300. But the last tip was very useful, I always use both brakes so I won’t wear one out but I never knew that about the turns... 1,500 miles and I’m still a noob. 🤣🤣 thanks for the vid

Good vid. But regarding front breaks. They are the most important in breaking. So as long as you cannot use them. You are not equivalent to ride a bike. Stay on training ground until you get better. So even when its aimed for newbies. These newbies shouldn't be on the street

Obviously you dont front brake going round a corner but you should be a bit clearer to newer riders as to how to take a corner correctly. brake early, then back on the throttle a little going into the corner for a smooth entry and exit

You should use both brakes. I think what you meant to say is that you should never squeeze your front brake super tight. Use both brakes, and let the engine slow you down too.
@gopalvenuraja
@gopalvenuraja 6 лет назад
You must use front brakes , otherwise you would die on a sports bike for sure. 80% of power comes from front brake. On a good with rain , or wet roads you must use only front brakes. On U turn you should never use ,never means never front brakes. But in general , first slightly press down rear brakes and then immediately use front brakes. On a turn you should actually use brakes (both of them slowly) BEFORE turn. And on the the turn use rear brakes slowly and then change gears down ( lower gears) and release the clutch. This is called engine braking. Until you become very familiar with the bike you are using , and until you really know how to use brakes , do not tail chase, don't chase cars, and in the city you just walk the bike on U turns. Bike riding gives ultimate pleasure but bike rider must wear protective gear, and should always loot at the type of tarmac. If there are pebbles, and if you use front brakes , you will fall.

Never Armor All the saddle on an H-2. You will suddenly be sitting on the tail light and trying to turn the throttle off while doing a chin up on the handle bar is next to impossible. It was the wheelie of all times at about 100 mph.

lol the kick stand. I've also seen guys use their front brake too hard (especially when coming to a stop) which results in them dropping it too. That's how I dropped a bike I was learning on back in the day lol. Good stuff with the riding with irresponsible friends! Peer pressure is not good to have when getting used to a new machine

Using the front brake in tandem with the rear brake and engine brake or used alone is fine as long as you don't lock the brakes or use too much instantly it must be done in an incrementally gradual fashion, if you don't have a feel for the brakes give up riding or risk dying. In the bike school i went to we are taught how to do emergency braking using all 3 brakes from 100 kph to 0 kph in a few seconds. This skill saved me alot over the years. Many of my classmates dropped out due to this lesson lol. This is the point where we get our nerves of steel and ice cold calm and quick thinking. We can't afford to panic or we risk death. P.s. 100 kph is not that fast for a sportsbike i know but case in point during this time we were student learners with 0 bike knowledge. Imagine going 100 kph for your first time and being challenged to emergency brake, during the lesson we have a cone marker but during the exam a volunteer would just pop in front of you like a real world scenario during the 60 kph exam but no person was used for 100 kph exam only markers for safety reasons.

I see comments on front brake use called 'trail braking'. when coming in hard into a turn, I use my front brakes hard, not lightly. I use my rear brakes hard, too. I ride aggressively, I suppose, like racing. don't be afraid of the brakes, practice hard stopping in a parking lot. use rear only, front only, then both. you'll learn how to use the right ratio, also you won't be so scared to hit the brakes hard, at least in a straight line. you may be surprised to find out how fast you can really stop that bike. and for the love of God, please, everyone, learn the difference between brakes, and breaks. the first one stops you (brakes) and the second one means your shit is in more than one piece now(breaks, broken)

I agree with most of this for new riders BUT if you actually know how the bike works and how to ride properly you can use your front brakes in a turn. If you don't know how to use your front brakes in a turn thats fine it's best you don't bad things can happen. If you are an experienced rider and understand how certain things effect your bike than using your front brakes can actually save you in a bad situation. Trail braking is also very handy on the track. I could show you how to properly use your front brake in a turn if you want lol If you don't know how don't do it.
