Nice vid 👍 just traded in my 2001 GT Tdi 130 silver 4 door this morning.... had it 10 years, amazing car, only one breakdown when the 1st & 2nd gear selector snapped 👍 still have my 1.8t though, love mk4s 🙂
@Mikel Gates rust is a big factor these days, sills and rear arches, front wings are easily changed. Check interior carpets and boot are dry as there are a lot of leak prone areas, mainly window regulator to door seals. I'd recommend a 1.8t or gt tdi 130/150. Lots of Service history for both the petrol & diesel turbo engine is essential in my opinion. Walkaway from any smoke out the back of a petrol, especially when hot. Diesel shouldn't smoke like an old train.... look at a few cars, the level of trim and maintenance will vary greatly. £2500 should see a good one. Good luck 🍀😁
I think less people know about the motion sensor disable button, and that you are supposed to clean the sunroof drains out, they live in the front door pillars, also the mirrors are heated, there is also a lot more stuff that you missed lol 😆
And the seal inside of the doors going bad causing humidity to creep in the car, and the old plastic clips everywhere (super convenient to dismantle the interior but breaks easily) (Yes i have one and i love it)
Cutting the end of the grommets in the doors and in boot (VWs official million euro fix lol) for the sunroof should stop any future blockages from the drains…I’ve purchased 2 mk4s and both cars sunroof drains wasn’t even connected to the grommets so also worth checking , easy fix with a steel core washing line run through and out the door 👌🏻
The moment I heard your accent I was ripped plus the ND registration. So many memories. Only after buying an NZ version of the Mk4 did I realise the difference between immob 2 & 3. South Africa actually specc'd them well. Only schlep is ZA did not get the mk4 VR6 24V nor the R32 only the VR5 on the Jetta. Greetings from Auckland & you have a sweet ride btw.
Agreed, altough im about to sell mine, i enjoyed it. Just a regular old beater with many problems, but it never left me stranded and never was too pricey to fix. And for a small car, it can move so much shit lol, my friend and i both have a mk4 and when he was moving, we did several trips stuffed to the brim, except for the largest furniture, he moved thanks to this car.
I consider myself lucky then, bought my golf already heavily used and beat up, but the liner was mint somehow, despite it being a dog car judging from the scratches and bites on everything plastic.
For the auto windows part, if you close the windows with your key and stay in that position for couple more seconds it will close your sunroof. I have the same car (US version) but no power mirrors.
idk if that helps cause the video is from 2 yrs ago but i saw your left rear window didnt open try banging the door really hard most of the time the window is just stuck and you banging the door will fix it but first listen if the signal reaches the window when you try to open it and hear a little "clack" or something like that it is most likely stuck
Most cars have the bit on the end of the sun visor so when it's folded down there is a bit the covers the bit of window above the rear view mirror but the mk4 doesn't have on so they had to fit a separate sunvisor for above the rear view mirror 😉
@djloafers hahaha read the manual, I basically know it at this point lmao 🤣 I've been working on these for 10 years or more now lmao 🤣 they are fitted with anti glare mirrors from the factory maybe practice what you preach
I have the mk4 with the same car key. Just curious, if you put it into the door lock and hold on to the "unlock" position, will it also open the sun/moon roof as well?
Hey. We have this same key fob.. Does the button work with central locking? Locking and unlocking? Cheers for the windows tips.. Didn't know any of this.
Hi my windows came down automatically when my mum was beside it yesterday afternoon and early this morning and hasnt done it since. What could it of been?
I have a 2014 VW Golf Mk 4 radio - I can't work it out for the life of me. There are no youtube vids on resetting it. If you can make a vid that would be great.
The only thing that I didn't know until then, was that not all of the golf 4s got the same key, mine has a switchblade style key integrated into the body with a remote unlock/lock buttons. I really tought that all golf 4s came with this key because its really easy to get replacement parts for it. Maybe because I have a Golf 4 Varinat.
I have a 3-door '98 golf mk4 that has central locking but no remote lock/unlock. That being said, since I do have central locking, I just bought a chinese remote unlock/lock receiver kit and have soldered it to the micro switches (well, the cables that go to the switches) of the lock, which are being pressed when you turn the key in the lock and give the signal to unlock/lock all doors. So I have the same key as you because of that 15$ upgrade😁
Hello, I have the mirrors folding feature with the module from the remote control, but I could not fold with the button from the inside, can you help me?
