As a man who used to struggle with depression these are the most helpful things I can think of: -Take Risks, don't let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new or something great -Do things that genuinely scare you or that you're afraid of (Even little things like climbing onto a roof and helping to put up Christmas lights if you're afraid of heights or saying something to the cute cashier girl other than "hi" and "thanks") -Pursue an ambitious goal, one that a lot of people don't believe you can achieve (It doesn't even matter if you fail this because no matter what the pursuit of an ambitious goal will make you a better person and give you fulfillment) With that being said, do your best to succeed -Have a passion, basically this means to find a hobby that you enjoy so much that you will spend hours and hours getting better at it -Study history, pick a role model, and then analyze the traits of your role model and list the reasons why you admire them. Then start to emulate these traits in your everyday life and eventually you will become your own role model. -Don't ever quit something just because it's hard (You can quit a crappy job if it's not the right fit for you, but never quit solely based on the fact that something is difficult). Embrace challenges and look for opportunities to improve yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. -Never put yourself down. Try not to think negative things about yourself and especially never say them out loud. You will think more highly of yourself when you say positive things about yourself, at the very least avoid putting yourself down on purpose. -Live purposefully. Have a direction for your life and if you don't already have one, make one. Decide what's most important to you and live accordingly. If you have a family or even a single loved one, your first priority (other than serving God if you're religious) should be to provide for them, to protect them, and to help them become the best version of themselves -Develop Integrity. I can't even explain how much this increases your self-repsect. Be honest, be trustworthy, don't cheat (unless you're in a street fight) and live with honor. -Find a hobby that you're really passionate about and strive to become a master at it -Finally, probably the most important thing I can say is to think less about yourself. Think less about yourself but not less of yourself. In other words, think about other people before you think about yourself, especially your family and loved ones. If you're focused on helping them with their problems I can promise you that your problems will become less important and less troublesome. Look for opportunities to help others and make them feel better about themselves. Nothing lifts you out of depression better than helping someone out of theirs. I hope this helps. I realize that some people are genetically predisposed to having a harder time with depression, but I believe that there's nothing you can't overcome with a strong mindset. In addition, I strongly believe that going through depression and having such terrible lows actually gives you the capacity to feel even greater happiness and joy. The reason I say this is because when you feel genuine joy after being depressed for so long you can't help but feel grateful. The beauty of life is that we are meant to experience the full range of human emotions, from happiness to anger to jealousy to despair to joy. We couldn't feel genuine happiness if we never knew what it was like to be sad. If I could talk to whoever is reading this face-to-face, what I would say to you would be simple: don't quit. A quote from Winston Churchill kept me going in times when I thought I had nothing left, he said: "If you're going through Hell, keep going." Everything in life can be and is meant to be an opportunity to make yourself better, and depression is no exception. Keep fighting, all of you are descended from warriors no matter what culture or country you are from. You wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the conquering spirit of your ancestors. Live a life that would make them proud. While most of us will not fight in physical wars, no one is exempt from the battlefield of life. Depression can be a battle every single day, every single second in some cases. Keep fighting, it will only get better. And the more you fight, the more you will gain respect for yourself. I've conquered my depression. Every now and then it will start to try and creep back into my mind but I don't let it. I destroy those feelings with action. I go lift weights, I go running, I listen to metal music, whatever it takes for me to regain my confidence. You can conquer depression, no matter how severe it is. That doesn't mean you'll never have days where you feel down, but it does mean that you'll have the strength to push through and do what you need to do as a man regardless of how you're feeling. Stay strong, stay hard, and fight like dragons 🐉 You're going to be very glad you did.

"Even if you're not okay, that's okay too." - so true. I think people need to be reminded that life isn’t about feeling 100% happy all day every day, we have to go through the dark moments to appreciate the light sometimes. Character development mostly only happens through retrospect, by applying empathy and understanding. idk if that makes sense but yes, wishing everyone love and light. We need it.

To feel in control is not enough, rather it would only be right if firstly, the person IS in control to actually feel it. I've since moved with some help, had some real jobs and also took and honestly didn't feel like I needed the help anymore, though unsolved past always crawls back and I made a few steps back from that prior progress. The title of this video and seeing it was from you spoke to me, and I knew it was finally time and that I'm ready. I'm ready for the journey through your videos, especially on days when I really need to hear it. I never had anyone to lean on, nobody who would understand me 100%, but what you say makes perfect sense to me, and I couldn't be more glad that I chose to come back to these videos, and that you're still making them. However, the fact that it is my responsibility not only to deal with the situation I'm in but also to search for answers, set goals, keep going, to be in a better mood is what I needed to hear. The current situation and the circumstances that led to it shook my beliefs and the base of my life in a way. Or you can choose to drown yourself in the doubt of others and the current modern culture’s definition of who you should be. #3 You are not entitled to anything. #4 awesome comedic relief #5 Everything is going to work out. I don’t have to white knuckle it. The doors that are meant to open will open and those that close are meant to be closed. It will be okay. Stick with your gut and principles. I am the only one responsible for un-stucking myself, not my boss, not my family, or whoever. I've also been struggling with self-love and have been telling myself that I'm incapable and incompetent, so I relied heavily on external approval. Again, it's actually not that hopeless for me if I think about it because there are actually a few ways for me to go from here, but it all depends on whether or not I want to take any of those paths, and I must if I think I deserve better in life. I would really like a video about enjoying the process of our activities and find joy in the daily routine instead of constantly obsessing ourselves with our end goal and bigger picture still being aware of where we’re going to. I think this might be a great video idea: keep it up.

You're definitely correct on the fact that life is really tough. I'm a doctor and just matched across the country away from vancouver and my whole family and everything i've ever known. The first few weeks of knowing this was really dark. But now i feel i'm a bit more resilient to the fact. especially after having some compassion for myself and acknowledging that i'm doing okay, and not every day is gonna be 10/10

Number 4 being mentioned without explanation, completely out of the blue make zero sense. What the hell? And it isn't even correct, commits China is on the same level of superpower than the US, and they ARE communist. Just because they aren't the specific type of pro people communist everyone here wanted, it doesn't mean they aren't or that it didn't work and is working as intended. If you wanted pro people countries, it's called socialism and it has been working literally better than the US for 30 years in North Europe so I legit have no idea what the channel was talking about

As someone who just got out of a deep and dark depression, I can tell you. It will get better if you have the will to make adjustments. Don't be afraid to talk to someone wether its a friend or family member or better yet a therapist. Talking helps and is a step closer to figuring things out. Also eating better and trying to get more optimal sleep will help. These are all gradual things you can take to combat it.

Towards the end, you remind me of something that a friend told me after my first breakup, "If you came out of it knowing more about yourself than when it started, that time wasn't a waste." I subscribe to you because you have great wisdom, along with a passion for helping others and sharing knowledge. I believe this is what has propelled humanity as far as we've come. I hope you'll allow me to reciprocate in this small way. Every economic system ever implemented has failed, by one measure or another. Sure there may be different pros/cons, but participating or even inviting debate over which is all-around better, unlike a bad relationship, is time wasted. Cooperation, collaboration, and selflessness are what keep any population going, which you definitely appear to understand. History has demonstrated that no political or economic system can survive these aspects of humanity failing, and that any system will flourish as these aspects thrive. As always man, it's a great video, and I enjoyed watching. You are a positive influence on a lot of people. Thanks for being you

Number 2 honestly resonated with me so deeply. Ive noticed that often everything I do feels like "an exchange." exactly how he put it. I felt like even when I meant something (a compliment, etc) that I was still being insincere in some way because I expected something in return. Acting out of abundance instead of scarcity can do wonders for you. Im going to do my best to respect myself and love myself more.

I think I've finally figured out what my problem with the saying "take responsibility" is. A hard pill for me to swallow was that despite how we may look at it, blame and responsibility are intrinsically linked, period, and blame is in *no* way constructive, especially not to people with crippling mental and self judgement issues, like me. Basically hearing "it's not your fault, but it's all your fault" has only made things worse for me, but I couldn't articulate that. Now I see it differently, and it works better for me; *FORGET* responsibility. It's too narrow a way to look at things. What matters is when something goes wrong in your life, it is often in your best interest to take action, whether your responsible or not. I think that's what's being said when people say "take responsibility for _____," and I've actually finally saw change within my life. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Stoicism isn't masochism. Stoicism is the acceptance of the tragedy that happens to you while you keep moving forward, working hard and changing things that are inside the scope of your power. Stoicism doesn't mean accepting life is harsh so all we can do is accept it and not fight back, if your family is in legit danger from an armed man then self defense against the common enemy is the #1 course of action, there's no more need to know about the backstory of the man who's about to kill your family, you do what makes sense and it doesn't make you less stoic if you fight back, not fighting back would be masochism not stoicism.
@MiketheNerdRanger
@MiketheNerdRanger 2 года назад
@@hish33p32 I think I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure what this means in the context of what I was saying. Stoicism? Masochism? I wasn't saying what I was saying through either lens, and I was specifically *not* saying that we should stand there and take it. My point was that I was able to better mobilize myself by shedding not only blame, but what we call "responsibility," because it really doesn't matter who is responsible, only that action is taken. I'm not sure if you read my entire comment so I'm reiterating here.
@hish33p32
@hish33p32 2 года назад
@@MiketheNerdRanger I'm saying that's ehat Stoicism is, taking action because you yourself is aware that nobody is at fault for their inaction. But when more people become stoic the less the world has to suffer, but human nature says otherwise, 90% of people are irrational perspectivists and we can't do anything about it. So the only thing to do is keep moving forward

I like your take more. It's better for you to do sth about it, whether or not you're the reason things went wrong. Improving your situation is a plus over not doing anything or doing the opposite. So do it for the plus if not anything else.
@sparkstudies1675
@sparkstudies1675 2 года назад
For me I think it was just a harsh truth, and that's all. Someone else may have been responsible for helping to put me where I am, but it's my life, I am now responsible for getting myself out of there as an adult. A way I've heard someone else put it that I liked, was "it's your fault, but it is your problem." Essentially the same thing you are saying. However you choose to think of it, at the core, you are correct in your assessment. It's not about assigning fault and blame for the cause, it is about giving power to the one who can find and implement a solution - you.

6:18 communism has failed every time it was tried 8:56 I just want to give a big thank you to audible, a subsidiary of amazon. Amazon, that company that's choking out competitors, busting unions, and sucking the soul out of all its subisiaries to make Jeff Bezos enough money to mess around in space and break the basic rules of capitalism as they were intended to be. I'm being sponsered by them now, since they've been pushing for a monopoly on sponsoring online content creators for forever and thus my choices are limited. 😂 Thanks for the video Joey, it's a high quality one as usual. #4 is definitely facutally correct, but we all know that it's used to dismiss communism and sometimes even socialism as inherently terrible political ideologies. This is unproductive at best, malicious at worst. We can only improve our societies if we don't voluntarily put on blinders when thinking of valid criticisms and solutions.
