These “what not to do” videos are just as helpful if not more helpful than the “how to” videos. Turns out I do almost everything wrong from this list... guess that’s why my tres aren’t consistent yet. Time to put some work in!
George Mirchev hell yeaaaa I feel it back in 7-9th grade I had the best treflips stop skating for a couple years because of my kids had to get a job etc now it’s like I’m relearning them it sucks 😔
Have been trying to learn this trick for weeks. Watched this and went back out to practice, adjusted my form accordingly, and landed one within 3 tries. You, my friend, have just earned yourself a new sub.
Leaning forward to much, yeah that is my probem in a nutshell. I have a perfect rotation of the board and a perfect flip, but I always get the board to far behind me, just so I barely misses it with my front foot, sometimes I land with both feet on the board, but way to far up the nose to be able to roll away. The problem is that there is a clear difference between knowing the problem and actually doing something about it. :-P When I try to lean back more, the rest of my technique totally falls apart. I have struggled with this problem almost a year know. But I am not giving up damn it! xD Good video!
your technique doesnt fail, because you cant do the flip or the scoop. Your technique fails, because if you lean back, you have to commit again to the trick, that you havent done yet. You know how the board behaves when you lean forward, and youre not scared of whats about to happen, because you know. My advise Id give to you is, lean so much back, that you cant reach the board with your backfoot after the rotation. Practice stopping the rotation with your front foot, and just slam it down, with your backfoot not even trying to land on the board. From there you should try lean forward juuuuuuust a little bit, and the next try more, and the next try more until your at the right angle, where you could actually land on the board and roll away, but then you gonna notice, that your feet will stop again committing to the trick and thats where you just have to suck it up and commit. The first time you gonna land on the board, you might slip and land and your ass, happened to me. The try after that I landed it :) and now I can do them pretty consistently. I promise, its all in your head.
I think you are spot on in your analysis. I have no problem catching it with my front foot when deliberately stepping off the board with my back foot, because that makes me lean back more automatically. I need to re-learn the teqhnique (scoop and flip) with another weight distribution. I am definitely going to try your suggestion with leaning so far back that I cannot reach the board with the back foot. And yeah, I agree that it's probably equally much a mental challenge as well as a technical one. Thanks for the great support man! I will try the suggestions the next time I go skating! :-)
@DB Cooper's MoneyBags I am closer, but still sadly far away. I think my issues are threefold. 1. I need to lean back more but that messes up my balance. I need to work on that more. 2. My scoop is week. No matter how much I commit, I seem to have a really lame scoop. 3. Commitment. It's lacking. xD That being said, it feels like I am getting closer but suuuuuper slowly! xD
#1 thing not to do while learning tre flips... DON'T practice your sword swallowing at the same time! the multitasking efficiency benefits are just not worth it!
I’ve been practicing this trick for 5 years and still don’t got it. I’ve landed it q number of times, but some times it takes me 10-300 tries to get it. I’m very bad at them but even tho it’s been frustrating, I’ve been having so much fun working at it and I know one day I’ll have it down. So keep trying if you’re having trouble with them as well.
hold up, u really just say 10-300? lol the range😂 but skateboarding really is like that, i hope by this point you’ve gotten the trick down bro❤️ keep at it, i’m currently tryna learn to heelflip and i know how to do it but i’m just so inconsistent
i started skating again and i was having a hard time with the 360 flip then i remembered your video. and i realize that i was having the number 1 and number 5 mistake. after that i did a few decent 360flips. thanx for your videos. greeting from jalisco mexico
The back foot not being flat is a great tip. I've watched a few videos from other people none of which had mentioned that. I will give it a try thanks.
Been trying to figure out Tre flips for years...started practicing again after seeing this video. Took me about 6 one hour sessions of trying nonstop Tre flips (probably well over a thousand in total) and I finally landed one and rolled away today, after about 40 where I landed either primo or landed and flew off the board or lost balance. Landing a Tre flip was on my bucket list and had been haunting me for years. This video was the final key I needed to unlock it - thanks for making it!
yüo're not high enough in the air with your body centre. Learn high oliies and how to lift your body cntre higher into the air: by jumping with both legs instead of just sucking the knees up or jumping only with one leg.
Wow. I have been trying to learn tres for months with little success. After watching this video I was able to land a few almost immediately! Definitely subscribing. Your tips have been the most helpful by far!
This is probably the best tips I’ve ever heard for tre because I somewhat have them but I realize a lot of the time that I do everything you said not to do in the video
ok you have the best and cleanest tricks ever. your tre flips are frikin beautiful, your kickflips are soo amazing, and and just every trick you do is super good. keep up the good work👍🏻
Just a helpful tip. Go learn impossibles before 360 flips. The scoop is very similar with some slight tweaking. The only difference is you scoop a little bit more to the side, but essentially it's done in the same manner. Oh, and of course you add the kick flip into the mix.
1. Those are some of the most beautiful 360 flips I've ever seen! Thanks for the tips 2. Toward the end of the video I thought, that looks a lot like Lady Bird... My suspicions were confirmed once I saw the empty pool, fun box and fence! Fellow San Antonian
Yo! I don’t remember the last time that it took me just one video to subscribe to a channel.. keep uploading bro! You have a huge future doing this 💙🙏🏼
I think you must adding some detail step, i mean you tell about what happening when we do treflip, ex : ollie = square off, jump (lift up front foot first), pop, slide, lift up backfoot, land it
Thanks for the channel, I'm taking your tips into consideration every day. One suggestion: can you put the titles of the tips in the description? It would help to be able to reference the vid while practicing without having to scroll through the vid to remember all of them. Thanks!
Anytime man. There has been so many tricks that you've helped me with. I've been wanting to land Tre flips for years and I just can't get it yet. But I will eventually. Love what you do man !
Thank you sooooo much this helped a lot. I had landed my first tre a week ago but kept landing on my nose after that and couldn’t keep it under me. But I landed a clean one after watching this. Thanks
number 4 and 5 is always been my problem lol especially broken right ankle (I’m regular, not goofy) so I can’t really scoop but flick but I’ll try to see if it doesn’t hurt my ankle.
Saw the "X" on the thumbnail. So I thought, "Maybe, it's better to learn how to tre flip on variety of foundations. Like, marble floor can help a beginner learn them quicker." But didn't see you talk about that. Its something I just thought about. It's how I learned. Different kinds of foundations can do the trick. .
Dude, Im gettin so close to tre's and when i saw problem number 2, i realized my back always was right next to my front while landing on the nose. Imma try fixing this tommorow! thanks!
Great video, thanks so much. I did 360 flips for many years but my main issue is that I didn’t get to make them consistent like other tricks. Sometimes they come easy sometimes it’s like I have no idea how to do them, it’s so frustrating. A tutorial to learn to delay the back foot and catch it clean with the front foot would be great,:)
At times I would help it and flick a little towards my toe side and others kick straight forward not helping the 360 at all. It all depends on board setup, foot placement, scoop and who knows what else. When I learned switch tres I'd just focus on a good scoop and kicking my front foot straight forward
Having the back foot flat on the tail is what helped me getting a scoop with maximum power but much less effort. Stretching out your foot is part of the scooping motion. If it's already stretched, you would need much more effort of the rest of your leg to get the board around. At least that's the case for me. Changing the back foot from pointy to flat made the trick much easier in terms of the effort I had to put into the scoop, because there is much more room for the ankle to do the desired movement it takes to accomplish the scoop. But like I said, that's just what helped me. Maybe it's bullshit for everyone else..
a couple of things you didnt mention is that it looks like you are leaning over the side of your board when you pop, and you also jump over a little bit to the side to land on your board.
Your like my fav RU-vid to watch when it comes to learning tricks can you please make a video on speed like do I need this much speed for stairs this much speed for gaps how much is too fast or too slow when doing tricks trans or park I hope that made sense
Thanks for putting in this hard work man. Can't wait to work on a lot of these. I have so many tricks that are almost there. Have you done nollie flips yet? Maybe i just didn't see it.
You do need to flick the board, but not much. If you have your back foot on the tail with your yours kinda curled around the pocked, it’ll pretty much do like a half rotation tre flip so if you just gently flick off the board you should be able to get a full rotation. It’ll take some time but they’re super fun once you get them. My tres are okay if anyone wants to see those
I landed treflips today I tried them off a 3 stair and I learned the rotation when I tried it off and I started trying them on flat and stuck a few tmr is Saturday and I am gonna go outside a few hrs and try to get them consistent.
Ive just got back into it after stopping for 9 years. I was a pro at the flips now I flick it around and catch with my back foot. seems im nervous to put both feet down when I know I can do it . very annoying
All the tips are good, but I feel like shoulder rotation should have been included. Lots of people rotate their shoulders as a reaction to the scoop and end up facing completely forward, which makes it easier to slip out (especially if you already have the problem of keeping your feet to close together). It is important to try to line your shoulders up parallel with the board and try to not rotate them as you scoop, imo.
I was practicing it un scooping position, but flat feet. I'm focusin on the pressure on the toes next sesion. Hoping to get that trigger sweetspot this time.
You know how sometimes people do switch tres and the board goes in front of them/they have to jump forward? How do I get my normal tres to not do this and instead stay underneath me?
Jonas Flint the difference is “wrap” vs “scoop” where wrap follows through with the board and scoop just scoops then gets out of the way. Hope this helps
When I try to treflip my skate always hits the ground at the end of the rotation and after that I always land to the wrong side of the skate. Whats wrong?
Longboard Brand practice means nothing when you don't know proper technique though. You can be trying like most of these guys in the comments for two years and still make little progress. It's good to get tips so you can follow them and improve a lot easier than just trying forever.
Man I don't know wtf is going on I kept breaking boards on varial flips so I tried to learn tre flips. Its literally been 2 entire months since I've landed anything, I keep either one footing with my front foot or I can't keep my back foot on. I'll get the scoop but can't get the flick then I'll get the flick but not the scoop or I'll get all elements down with my back foot touching the ground. I wanna learn a trick every month but I can't seem to land anything now.
Have any videos on front side flips? Oddly, I can do them switch, but struggle regular. I can get the full rotation regular and land, but still not rolling away. So, I know it has something to do with my weight distribution.
