Since my Apprenticeship in the 80’s I’ve used a “clean” chalk line reel for my plumb bob. Has always served me well, and my string is never a tangled mess. Gotta get me one of your hammers! 😉

I cherish my tools and a lot of people think it’s strange how much I care about quality tools. I have been buying tools since I was 18, 20 years ago. Every year at Christmas we have a big family Christmas party and I always cringe opening what others wrap up and offer as a gift. I still have a lot of their gifts in the package hanging on the wall. Keep up the great content.

love the form setter, one item i've seen overlooked on many concrete jobs....wood wedges, for stripping...removing large sheets...easily..old timer taught me years ago...bust a joint , connection , bond easily..no effort and will not wreck concrete edges...so simple

My career started in 1971. During those 47 years I did a lot of surveying and construction layout. I have tried the string reel you demonstrated. My choice was just to holster my plumb bob and drape the string around my neck. Mind you I rarely used my bob much higher than I could reach. I can see the benefit of the reel if you are dropping two stories and only used intermittently. For constant use, I still prefer string draped around my neck. Even after my job became more into management, I never stopped carrying my holster (leather, custom made bob holster by my uncle) and bob in my vehicle with the string neatly wrapped around the neck. Good video. Thanks.

In my opinion (25 year framer). A corded saw at elevation is not very pleasant. A cordless with a rafter hook is nice. The safety crew is on us pretty hard up here in Alberta. Rope and hose is bad enough. If you can run a cordless saw, with rafter hook, there’s no need for a saw you can lower and raise with an extension cord. Love the vids. Keep em coming

As a concrete guy in Las Vegas I always like when you talk about working in Vegas for MS and Martin and Harris. I believe we know a lot of the same people including Dennis and most of the Stephensen family. I worked most of the 2000's for Campbell Concrete which was huge but probably came along after you left. You probably worked for MS when their office was on Cameron. I was working for a big plumbing company who's office was right across the street. My current company we do concrete, framing and door/trim. Always enjoy the videos. Keep them up

Several more tools to add to my wish list. Between the Essential Craftsman and Stumpy Nubbs that list keeps growing. Then I remember I’m almost Cy Swan’s vintage, but nowhere near his physical condition! More like an old dog sleeping and dreaming of things he did as a young pup. I’m gonna buy that reel for my plumb bob even though the doctors have told me to stay off ladders…

Gammon reels are great but the big box stores never carry them. Always have to go to the specialty surveyors supply store to get them. I’d always pick up 2 at a time so I wouldn’t have to go back for a couple years. They’ve got the nice braided line in them too. Not the twisted line that spins forever. Just a heads-up though: They’re not easy to change the line in. They need to work on that.

Rebar tie gun, if you install lots of rebar. Also magnet on bottom of a grade stick holds grade nail tap it grade right on. I call it a elephant trunk hooks on mixer keeps concrete from splattering around speeds up production pouring footing's. Also concrete chute tripod great for supporting 12' -16' chute.

unless the rules have change since I retired a few years ago ... A Union carpenter in Chicago is not allowed to bring his own power tools or a Burke Bar - levels longer than 24 inches - tape measures longer then 24 feet - or sledge hammers to a Union construction site . The company he works for must supply them with these tools . We are only allowed to bring our personal hand tools .
@mackfisher4487
@mackfisher4487 2 месяца назад
Chicago former IBEW member: unions can do a lot of good for their workers and for their employer, but they also can go too far. Your example with the unions position of making more jobs union job's but Cost unions more projects or jobs because they are not as competitive as scabs, I mean nonunion workers.

Thank you for the Spencer, But...... Find the sweet spot on all those tiny(impossible to find screws in the housing) and do yourself a favor by finding the sweet spot between too slow to wind up & too fast and set those screws with red loctite/ or at least blue...., the maul(maybe a different video) fully agree, it's an abomination, but does the job with a seriously kung fu grip(risking carpal tunnel surgery), tajima is a no contest as is gammon reel. Please stop mentioning that square from Australia as they have been out of production since before your first post... Years ago, emails every 3 months have been offered zero reply. The Irwin chalk line box is awesome, but Only to hold your big plumb bob if some dipass broke your Bosch laser for that dot way up you need. Thanks for your channel, I'm pretty sure it lowers my blood pressure a little bit, which is good, but how do you get to essential Craftsman 2. I've looked everywhere. You mention it over and over again but in my extensive search it's like it doesn't exist? And thank Kelly for all her efforts and putting up with the hours of a true Craftsman even though she can't figure out how to source essential Craftsman license plate frames 🤣

You think you know fast concrete? Have you ever taken a look at the skyline in Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs? Most of those skyscrapers are concrete or their upper floors are. How do I know? Besides building concrete high rises for over 20 years, the rule, the logical rule is if a building is commercial it goes up steel with a Q deck and I beams. If it's residential, it goes up reinforced concrete. Why? Because more penetrations through the deck for electric power, plumbing, gas for stoves, more sinks, more toilets. On a steel job the mechanical trades would be there for a year of Sundays drilling their holes through concrete, 9-wire mesh, and Q deck. On a concrete deck, you erect with plywood, and they do their layout on the ply wood and tack on some plastic pipe shaped stop. Put your rebar around it, pour your concrete and let set. Strip the deck and when you come across a hole, bust the plastic and run your pipe. That's it. The tallest concrete structure, building, skyscraper in the world is located on the south east side of Columbus circle. There are some buildings that are taller but their apex is a confined space. The Columbus circle building, you can stand on concrete at it's highest point. I know because I was part of the crew of a couple of hundred guys that helped build it When it comes to building with concrete with speed, Vegas couldn't carry New York's tool bag. You're welcome.

Yeah a cordless saw will boost productivity, until you have to charge the stupid batteries, or spend an additional $200 to $400 for NEW Batteries or worse yet buy a new Saw bc the POS shite the bed on you after 25 cuts. You can keep your Overpriced, and Disposable cordless garbage that require you to buy moronically expensive batteries that end up in a landfill within a year or two when one of the cells won't charge, or a component on the motherboard burns out. I'll stick with my corded tools that work whenever and wherever I need them no matter what for decades. These are Tools I can FIX when something breaks. The only Battery power tools that are in my toolbox are Hammer Drills, Drivers, and Impacts. 🤷
