We will never know because it's a huge "what if", but it's possible he would've been among the greatest of all time had it not been because of his many injuries. Life is so cruel... I don’t even have the words to say how I feel... I had been waiting since 2019 for his return and now everything seemed ready for a comeback in the top 100. He has just declared his retirement after this tournament... I’m practically crying right now. Del potro is an incredible player and even though he won only one grand slam, this 2009 US Open has the place of 10 grand slams for me. A very great player who is leaving us, so fun to watch. I will really miss you Del Potro, happy retirement and thank you so much for all the incredible matches and performances you gave on the court for us😭😭 The day he retires (so very soon), is a dark day for the ATP.

I think so as well. He beat Nadal and Fed back to back at the US open in 2009. His backhand was insane as well, before his wrist injury. It was as good as his forehand, although his forehand got developed later on when he could not hit his backhand as he used to anymore.

I cant hide my sadness, Delpo had one the most unluckiest careers in sports history in general, a transcendent talent, his frame and his footwork, his overall Tennis IQ and attitude were on par with the big 3 imo and also Murray/Wawrinka, He could have been the next no.1 in the world, he can play on all surfaces, and on top of that his character was so likable to many fans, I hope the best for him after his retirement and long live the Thor of Tandil and his hammer forehand!

Beating both fedal to win a slam was a dream for many top players those days and this man became the first man to make it real, such an amazing feat happened only 2 times in tennis history, at 20.9 beating both shows he had really a potential to win 5-10 slams, but then suddenly injuries kicked off, even though injuries kicked off he came back from outside top 100 to top 5 2 times which was also an amazing feat, which shows that he never gave up in his whole career even though being unlucky, what a legend he is
