Well what Saudi Arabia is doing now was already done by china few years ago.They had brought several football players from South America and Europe in order to promote football in China and to make Chinese Super League more popular than the existing premier league,La liga etc. They even paid players with a tremendous salary but in the end they had to restrain their spending spree, were bound to give more opportunities to the local Chinese players than the foreign players and eventually it led to a disaster. Europe was able to clinch the football market from South America because several countries in Europe had taken initiatives to revolutionize football in their region and it was a slow but sustainable process. I highly doubt that Saudi Arabia will ever reach to the levels of Europe and will sustain the growth and quality of football. Not only Saudi Arabia but every football giant in Asia has to provide a humongous amount of time and money along with taking proper initiatives to build a strong and formidable football league in order to surpass Europe.
