Outstanding! Always good to learn, hone, and own our skills! Can't wait for you to pick up Little Man and get some more Father and Son time out in the wilderness! Keep up the outstanding work!!
@clint eastwood 😁 that's because it is 😁👍🏻. Not sure if you're being equally as sarcastic/humorous as the original comment but; you are technically correct - the best kind of correct. 🧐
Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video! If you've ever been lost in the woods, you'll wish you'd paid attention. I learned all this back in the 70's while in the real boyscouts. I was an Eagle Scout. You cannot rely on your compass if you put it on a rock or if its close to a metal object, knife, gun, zipper, necklace, ring, etc. While hunting I've been turned around more than once. This knowledge let me get back to camp or close to it every time. Thanks for all You Do! Once again Good Video!👍👍👍 God Bless!
WHERE'S THE BACON? CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING YOUR SON !!!!!! You and "Lil Dude" can make some fantastic Videos together while teaching him all about survival, bushcrafting, and what it takes to be a good man. Am looking forward to seeing him progress and grow under your tutelage as a a Dad , Friend and Instructor. Be Safe in your Travels to the Left Coast! and back to the Eastern Woodlands. Doc Bates
I am glad you are going to get your son full time. as a father, I know how important it is to spend time with your kid. my son is now 23 years old, and we still try to spend as much time in the woods together as we can. he's really grown into a good young man. I believe the woods time is in part has helped our friendship. not only are you giving him skills he can use for ever, you are building his memories of good times with Dad. excellent job.
One of the reasons your videos are outstanding is because you take topics that can be confusing or difficult and break them down into easy to understand pieces. Your channel is one of the best for learning outdoor skills!
Congratulations on your son coming back for good. Can’t wait to see more team effort videos. Thanks for another outstanding video! Looking forward to overnights returning.
Cpl.....do I understand that your son is coming back, for good. OUTSTANDING. Please let us viewers watch. If so, you set the hook, and Little Dude is on a wonderful path, and is truly “home” with his Dad.
i dont know why in German i dont understand that tricks from different teachers... i think i must be stupid... but once hearing it in Corporals style its so simple af... outstanding... thank you🙏
Don't have to have the full story, but glad you and your son will be together. Look forward to future videos with the two of you. Thanks for the navigation info.
Thanks for doing this video. Looking forward to all the other skills you want to teach, especially knots. Ignore any negative comments. These are skills we all should have been taught as children and you are offering a solution to our ignorance.
Can't wait for lil big dude to come back the farther son videos are a huge influence to father's like myself.. Keep up the great work corporal you got my vote!!!
Our bush is thick so we often count box side-steps too. And, if leapfrogging often the moving person can go right past the landmarker if that person has an azimuth ready to guide them back on track. Gives more options for moving through rough ground. Though, last landnav course I wore neutral colors and had a camo backpack so was hard for my partner to see. Next time I'll carry something blaze orange.
Your land nav vids are really good. So glad you are getting your son. As a dad, I know how huge that is. I moved from Michigan to Arizona to be close to mine. Keep up the great work my friend!
I just watched Dave Canterbury's video about compasses last night. Maybe I'm being told subliminally to use the compass. I got the notification via email, too. Thanks!
I've watched all your videos for years. But it's great for you to do these for multiple reasons. ALWAYS good to have a quick refreshers and also for the new people just getting into it, where you can direct them to your more in depth videos. The two most difficult things to engrain into my mind are the map, compass, and ranger beads while traversing up and down steep terrains. And the second is learning the knots... Even though I was taught them both at a young age in boy scouts, the teachers never clicked with my style of learning. I do understand your style of teaching....as crazy as that may seem. Everyone learns differently. And I am so happy that you will now have your son with you and away from the left west coast! Absolutely OUTSTANDING AF! CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks for the compass vid, short, sweet and good! I know you're excited about getting your son, I've really enjoyed the videos with him. Safe travels.
Thank you corporal for all of these videos. I really enjoy these learning videos. My son and I watch you every Sunday. I am very happy for you and son to be together from now on. You are a good man and are teaching him well. I look forward to seeing you both kicking butt in the middle of the outdoors.
Congrats on getting ur boy back....as a father it's hard to put those words in perspective...great feeling.... outstanding Sir.....and congrats on going back to school....that's not always an ez task.... outstanding AF
I'm always amazed at the stories of people who go hiking out in the wild without carrying even a very basic compass. And then they literally lose their bearings and can't regain them. And that's when it becomes a game of life or death that many tragically lose.
Leapfrogging, the reason we wore cateyes on our covers for nighttime navigation. Short, sweet and to the point with no nonsense. Another outstanding video. Glad that you are going to have your son around. Got to spend some woods time with mine last week.
This was a great demonstration! You may have surpassed yourself as I finally really get the point of holding your compass at arm's length. My training now feels complete, thanks to you Corporal Bosley. Great news on medium/large dude coming back or good.
Congrats on your son coming to stay...Great Feeling I'm sure. Hoping Mine decides to do the same some day, nothing pains me more then when the visit is over.. Thank for sharing your skills and knowledge
A radio helps a lot to keep someone in the right line, as technology can fail, it is always helpful to have a whistle with you. For example a short blow is left, two short blows are right and a long blow is stop. Great videos Corporal!
Did I hear you right in the beginning of the video you are going to get your son for good? That is fantastic I can tell you as a father for that children need their fathers! Congratulations Corporal Kelly I look forward to seeing more videos of you and that fine young man take care brother! Oh by the way I did enjoy the video I need to watch it again and again to learn my compass😁😁
Funny enough I had just watched this series of videos a few weeks ago. I like the addition of the leap frog method that you and your son included. Thanks for the great uploads and continued schedule. Safe trip to the Left Coast.
Hi Shawn, that's great news that you son will be coming home with you to stay, happy for you! Thanks for the great tips on navigation. I bought a book on learning the compass and navigation and it read like a stereo manual..Happy Belated National Bacon Day which was this past Saturday. 👍🥓
That is one nice compass. Certainly beats my cheap Walmart folding pocket compass. I am glad you are getting your son. I am certain you are extremely happy with that! Thank You, sir, for teaching us. I truly appreciate your efforts.
My tip: I keep a non-magnetic whistle on my Suunto MC2 lanyard so I have visual and auditory signaling options all in one. I love nav tips. Books, videos, magazine articles about are some of my favorite outdoorsy things to learn about.
Your land nav videos are FANTASTIC! All of your classes/videos are complete and through! I have yet to find any that come close to your instructions. THANK YOU!
It says volumes of your character that your son is coming to live with you. Most men would not put themselves out there like that. Total respect to you. As usual an outstanding job. Looking forward to seeing you and your son continue your journey. You’re a great dad.
I always loved my lensetic compass in the usmc (not sure if you spell it that way)...even at night. I was a forward observer then...it was so cool to see how easy it was..
Great news on your son. I don't know if he's going to follow in your footsteps (figuratively speaking) but he's going to be a well-trained young man. A great asset for any team. This was another tutorial and more notes to write in my composition book of Corporals Corner lessons. I was just out this morning practicing using my Suunto MC2 and the Ranger beads. Besides the colorful (bright orange) way point marker, I carry a small roll of aluminum foil streamer that I use in my garden; supposedly to scare birds away, keep them from eating newly planted seeds. The foil glistens and helps when I do the 90 degree traversing around a lake or other obstacle and I don't want to return to retrieve the way marker. If one direction is a bust I use the foil markers to return to my original position. Although it adds weight to my pack I like carrying either a monocular telescope or a small pair of binoculars. What?! No bacon in this video? For my breakfast I made bacon in flour tortilla wraps with strawberry jam from those Denny's packets.
Another great video. This is actually the best concise compass usage video I've seen by far. No competition. You have a great knack for explaining things clearly and concisely. Great work! Please keep it up and congrats on having the son full time. Good for you! :-)
