Like the man before me said, "great lesson, man!" I swear, I'm learning more from you in 15 minutes than I've learned from these other RU-vid teachers I've been watching for 2 years. Thank's for your lessons and the time you put into them. You're a natural teacher my friend.
I love your videos! I’ve only watched them while I’m “working” tho and never at home with my guitar.. But they definitely make me feel like “the next step” i need to take is so possible and it makes me feel like playing more, and that overcoming my block is not only possible but fun!! So well explained. Thank you!
This was incredibly well delivered, I caught myself smiling at the "I'm playing the blues" part, because it was a very fun and simple way to explain phrasing in solos!
You are a remarkable teacher !!! I've been learning from your creative approach. It's always blow me away when you think you know it all or good enough to play on stage, then you go to a dive bar. You check out the band , the first set your like I can do that, then as the night goes, the guitar play leaves the planet and you want to quit play guitar because your not worthy enough . I toldly respect the working musician.!!! That's why you call it the blues.
Loved the different concepts they all make perfect sense but speaking for myself would never think of them as always to focused on which scale where etc. Thanks a lot
Dude, I love how you reached for your Strat! I laughed out loud! It reminds me of how I treat all my precious ladies (Guitars) They have feelings and should be pampered LOL!!
Oh, that thing about the fingers being in control... Well put! I haven't thought about it before, but I find myself often being more mechanical than musical, and I'm not even a player that's not stuck in the box. This is actually quite helpful!
Great video and excellent teaching! I am going to watch this one again and again. I had not watched your channel before, but after this video i am now subscribed.
Maaan that last tip totally blew my mind. I do not play the guitar but the violin and I am a singer. When I sing, it's absolutely no problem to get that blues feeling into my voice but with my violin it's always like "How do I get that cool blues rhythm into my fingers? Why does it sound like a child's song though I am playing the right pentatonic, blue notes etc.?" It's just the thing to make the clever breaks!! thxxxx
I loved how I didn't see where the vocal notes were going, but when it hit the guitar, it was jazz! Amazing stuff. Enrolling right now. More people need to know about your channel! This is fantastic. And that guitar is really cool looking too! Thanks again. Cheers!
Thanks for the excellent lesson Chief. This is the one I am looking for. A good rhythm to pass an evening away while relaxing and enjoying the time and at the same time express the emotion. Cheers from Indonesia.
Great content Dave… affirmation with great direction to new territory for me. Looking forward to grabbing my Strat and playing with your advise top of mind tonight.
Started watching your videos a short time ago and wow I am blown away you are my number one guitar teacher and life guru here on RU-vid. I am totally down with what you were saying you're just talking my language man. I like that style of playing behind the beat I was doing that and didn't know they had a name for it. BB King did that very well!
Thanks for the share, confirms a lot of what I was already kind of doing except the last tip "I'm playing the blues". Don't think I'll ever forrrrrrr get that one now.
thanks for sharing your knowledge, you have the right idea and you know where frustrated players like me need to pick up the guitar and try it again. Awesome videos!!!!
"I'm...playing...the...blues" = excellent William Shatner impersonation at 13:08, lol! Great tips, David! To add to the "outside" tip, I also love when you bend/slide up (or pre-bend/slide down) to a scale note from an outside note one fret away - short but sweet.
Bro. David so stoked to have scrolled upon this vlog because latlely (yesterday while playing i was questioning my blues leads, i live in hawaii ,we play all kinds of stuff sadly the blues might be th least played at times ,explaining my lack of any gain in luster or getting more creative) but long story short This video gave me So Much ! You are a Guru , because im OK in experience your great Style, Approach along with great terminology of your point was perceived right to my Music brain ,so i got it Thanks in this short time i think at least it feels like i really expanded to another level, which is a little hole i had lately is now filled, being older now if i didnt get that filled ,i would have taken a step toward prob downward kinda not caring spin ... u see where im going ( u prob think, " nobody would get fhis Deep, hah) but yeah bro your sharing of your( in hawaii we call it " Mana") inner Knowledge has made a great & positive difference in my musical self! Thanks Again & will support wut you do my Man🤙p.s. your name in hawaiian, 1 of my favorite is "KAWIKA" : Kuh Vee Kuh . Jus Sayin 👊👍🤙✌️
Hey David ...The five tips are very helpful in my journey...especially tip #5 . I seem to get caught up in the quick licks ..jamming as many licks that I can in each bar or measure...My fingers would take over and everything just sounded generic.... Adding tip#5 kinda got me back in to why I picked up the guitar in the first place...The pain in my HEART...I can feel it. Thanks
I was looking for info on Neck Diagrams 2 and came to Davids site last week because he reviewed Neck Diagrams. This guy is amazing! Great knowledge and great teaching style. Ive watched a lot of the videos in the past few days and see enourmous learning potential for my music! Thank you David!!
