Your sharing not only what to play but what you're thinking while you play, as well as the relationships between scales and neighboring scales has been very beneficial to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! My favorite tutorials are the ones where the instructor shares "what's going thru my mind as I play this or that."

After an enormous wasted time figuring out how to make the simple 1st pentatonic actually sound like the blues, the lights suddenly went on. Playing fingerstyle and delta I tried the methods by countless other video lessons on improvisation all to no avail. This lesson changed everything in the FIRST FIVE minutes of the lesson. I have to change things up a little bit for acoustic but the principles are the same. Thank you very much

Love these lessons, and, I love the concept of playing the notes of the chord in your solos. Unfortunately, I can't really implement this so well. It requires knowing all the notes on the neck, and, after several years of playing, I still haven't been able to learn all the notes well enough to just jump to them.

Hey. Excellent video. Just wanted to know, when you are targetting those chord tones what do you have in mind? Is it the pentatonic pattern or the triad ( 1-3-5 or 1-b3-5 ) shapes? If its the former, is there an easy way to visualise those notes and if its the latter, is it a prerequisite to know all the triad inversions? Please answer this, i think its self explanatory but i need your confirmation. Plz.
@OriginalKingRichTv

Both. You'll find out that chord tones create most of the scales.

Your "focus on chord tones" is making all the time I spent studying the CAGED system so worth it. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm beginning to visualize my soloing sort of the way I would visualize chord changes if I was just playing rhythm. I'm feeling less "stuck in the box". Great stuff! Thanks.

Basically mixing the major/minor pentatonic scales. Can always hit that bend from 7th fret G string to 9th fret then slide up and hammer on the 10th pull off to 9th. Lots of different ways to spice it all up. Same with the 5th of the Em on D string. Can hit it anytime.

I've been watching a lot of guitar tutorial videos for enhancement as my playing needs a major expansion project. Nonetheless, I really think you are probably the best teacher I've seen besides Marty, and Steve Stine (who lives in Fargo here with me and I personally know; very cool guy) but you even more so than those two; I think it's because you go over what you're referring to multiple times and really hammer home the stylistic concepts overall. It's really refreshing as I've been struggling for new and different chords as well as soloing concepts like this one. Don't mean to ramble, but keep up the excellent teaching as your doing a lot of people a huge service!

I really like the practical nature of your lessons. You've definitely helped take the "mystery" out of some of the most important blues rock fundamentals for me! Your vids tend to be a bit longer than most of leading youtube teachers, BUT I always get a lot of USEFUL LEARNING from your lessons. Thanks a MILLI from Whidbey Island, WA!
