I love ICM. I actually prefer it to traditional photography. It takes me back to art history A level in school and art college studying the old masters. I’ve been shooting ICM out on my daily walks with my wife. You’re right though. You need to take lots of photos to get a good few ones to work on. ICM for me is more about capturing what you feel than what see, because the blending and layering comes from within.
@andrewsgray
@andrewsgray 4 года назад
Quite right Simon. The lack of rules etc means you can just do what you like or makes you happy. Unlike traditional photography I find with the editing you can put your own emotions into the work. I'm glad I stumbled across it 😀

I got into ICM photography totally by accident. I was out one evening walking the Sth Bank in London snapping away at people but wasn't keeping an eye on my settings. Got home, put pictures onto my pc and i was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Not everyone's cup of tea but something I'm really getting into. Great advice BTW with the ND filter. Was about to buy one when i read that my Fuji camera has one built into it, didn't even know that so that's a right result. Thanks Andy, great tutorial.

Thank you for this video. The ND is necessary during the day. Many times I’ve lowered the ISO and aperture and I blow out the highlights without the ND filter. Chimping is critical for me. I can’t previsualize accurately so I’m getting feedback and adjusting my movement or shutter speed. Great advise to shoot a lot. We all have large SD cards. I only get about 2-5% of my images that I like. I have learned many ways not to do ICM. In the end the difference between a professional and amateur photographer is the professional photographer only shares their good images. Mask On Nurse Marty(Ret)

Regarding exposure - is it typically best at the metered exposure or do these usually work better over or under exposed?
@andrewsgray

Hey Keith. Good question. To be honest, some of it will depend on your camera and how it handles lights and shadow. As an example my Nikon will blow out highlights at the drop of a hat but handles shadow recovery nicely, so I under expose. It's again one of the things to experiment with 👍
