I’ve been snowboarding for 12 years and I always try to sit on the end sides of the chairlift. Whenever I’m in the middle between people I tend to forget all my skills and end up having the whole group crash as soon as we get off the chairlift 😂

Having the outside seat helps a lot!

I thought I was the only one! You also can’t forget when you’re in the middle, it’s mandatory for someone to somehow stand on your board as soon as you’re getting off the lift😂

Tip #6 (when possible) Goofy footers sit on the left and regular on the right. This makes it more comfortable for the ride up and also makes unloading a lot easier (IMO).

Agree! Have seen olympic pro riders also favouring this strategy when getting on the chair

Biggest thing for me last season, my first, was getting weight over front foot when getting off lift. Once I got that down, no more issues. If you're weight is on your back foot, you'll spin out and fall just as you start to slide down away from chair.

Does that mean I should bend my knees more? Like on the side that’s more dominant?

One of the best tips I got was to look up and far away rather than looking down.

Great tips! Something that helped me when first getting off the chair lift is keeping my back foot half on the board and half in the snow. From there you can drag that back foot in the snow partially to reduce speed which seems to be one of the biggest reasons I see for myself when I first started and beginners for losing control when getting off the lift 😅

My first ski lift ride was with my instructor and when I had to go up alone, it always went so smoothly. Just let the chair push you away gently and go with the flow.

Great tips! I personally liked the bonus one - i never thought that you can ask lifty to slow it down (tho i knew it is obviously possible). I would like to add an advice to pick either very left or very right sit on your first "trips" and i personally also wait for everybody else to ride away and then proceed myself (sometimes if the exit is steep after i get of the lift i even grab the chair with my 'back' hand and slow down myself a lil bit). Good luck everybody, you can make it!

Helps to pick a chair lift with a mellow off ramp to begin with... most beginner areas will have this by default. But you don't want a steep, narrow exit before you are confident one footing straight with a bit of speed. Avoid The Leichardt Chair early and late season at Perisher.... straight carnage over there at the top

Can you make one for the T bar? It is my 3rd season and I still see it very hard to ride, my one foot ride is pretty good but I still have problems with the T bar, tks.

Biggest issue is people gathering in the exit area

I watch all the videos i could find for chairlift tips, and today, my first ever snowboard day, i tried, and fell horribly, i put myself sideways like many videos said, helped push myself off the chair, and yet my board i guess wasnt very well in line, and then was going down really fast and just lost control and fall super hard down on my butt, can still feel it in my sciatic

I started snowboarding in January, and when I got the hang of how to ride I went on a chairlift and ended up getting off ok. But as I started going down the mountain, I noticed various patches of ice coming my way and immediately panicked, and I hit a patch of ice and my board slid out from underneath me and my I hit the ice with my tailbone and the pain that shot up my spine and to my neck made me panic thinking I had broken something and would be paralysed. Went to the emergency room and turns I just badly bruised my tailbone. I still feel it 6 months later when ever I sit down on my tailbone 😂😂😂

Chin up..look where you are going (NOT at your feet) Shoulders aligned with board. Weight on front foot

Sno' since 1995. Two things. I'm not sure why now everyone skates on back foot behind heeside edge, in the 90's and early 2000's if I well remember was normal to skate like on a skateboard, with back foot over FRONT edge. To prove it I remember a turnable disk to put under front binding, turning front foot in skate style. And with a lot of hardbooters using the new technique would have been a bit akward. Second, none is focusing on the imho main move to do when a chair lift arrives up, I mean is to push the front shoulder versus frontside edge. This work also with skilifts

Can you help me choosing the right size, my weight is 79kg and height is 1.85 I want to butter and do some jumps and some jibs in ghe park but still want to go down with some sidehits(liek all mountain) And im struggeling between the DOA 157w or the 159w. The 157w is 5cm under my chin. Thanks for helping me guys
@inmotion_snow
@inmotion_snow Год назад
You will do fine on both, but if you want to do butter and jibs I would go for 157. It's not much difference between them but will probs feel a tiny bit more playful.

For me getting off the chairlift is a hill in itself for some reason its way steeper than other chairlifts

I'd also add make sure you let everyone know that you're lowering the safety bar on the chairlift. Don't wanna bump anyone's noggins 🤣
