I have some small foraging bags that I use for knitting. I love that they have a leather strap at the top with a snap. They fit so nicely onto a belt or other strap as well as the bar in front of my on our side by side. It's perfect for knitting socks while we are out riding but would also work for hiking. I got mine on amazon and they're super affordable.

I'm a huge knitting while hiking fan! I just returned from an 18 day hiking vacation and completed a pair of socks in that time, all while hiking. My most recent change was to start using a 12" circular. My preferred method is two circular needles but the one smaller circular needle means I can drop my knitting at any moment (say in an emergency or to catch a fall) and I don't have to worry about cables and needles getting in the way!

How fortunate to be able to visit these state parks! Have fun. 😊 I would never knit and hike, I would absolutely give those place my 100% of my attention. Maybe knit during meal but likely I would save it for indoor time experiencing everything on even my local trails is worth it, I would miss so much knitting.

I love knitting and walking - I do find when my hands get too hot, it can change my tension, so I try to keep an eye on that and may put my knitting away for a stretch to cool my hands down again.

Thank you for the tips! When it’s cooler I have found wearing a hoodie with a kangaroo pocket works nicely to hold my yarn. I also like using light weight stuff sacks for project bags. With skinny needles they can poke through but they are light weight and easy to clip onto things and stuff into a bag to take along with me.

I found a stroller drink caddy at the thrift store that I now use for my walking and knitting. The two cup holders are the perfect size to hold a yarn cake each (so I usually use them to knit very simple colourwork), then there’s space in the middle to set my project if I need to put my knitting down. It also came with a small zipper pouch on the front that is just large enough for my phone. Since I also take my large dog with me on my walks, I usually just use a longer leash that I double up. I used to wear the leash around my waist, but my husband broke me of that habit when I was pregnant (he was justifiably concerned about the baby). Now I wear the leash across one shoulder like you would a cross-body bag. It keeps my dog close and doesn’t tangle with my yarn that way. I hope y’all try it! Walking/hiking and knitting is one of my most favorite things. I was so excited the first time I heard someone mention that they do this and it has changed my life for the better.

Walking along and knitting at the same time is definitely not for me I’m afraid! I would end up tripping over something for sure. However there is nothing I like better than taking a small project (usually socks) in my bag and finding a nice spot to sit and relax then get the knitting out while I’m sitting in the open air! Definitely more enjoyable and safer for me x

Hi! I enjoyed this video. I’m amazed at people who can knit in the dark or while walking. I can knit simple projects without looking much, but definitely need to occasionally. And walking, I do need to look pretty much all the time! I love to knit outside though, and have taken my knitting up mountains, to the beach and to islands. Anywhere I’m going if I’m going to have a chance to sit and enjoy a pretty view.

Also, on your cozy one, you could make the icord longer and wear it crossbody.

I can't really knit and hike with my bad knee, and I even got trekking poles for better balance and weight distribution. But I would love to hike to a place to rest and knit, since it would also get me resting more and taking it slower than when I was healthier instead of pushing through the pain. I actually want to knit more by the campfire now.

i find knitting while walking my tension loosens up a bit so i need to have a project that i only use for walking. i also get a sore lower back from it, i guess due to wear I'm holding my arms, so i alternate 10 minutes of walking and knitting, and then 10 minutes of walking with my arms by my sides and that seems to be a good mix that i don't get lower back pain.

really liked the video. very informative. QQ: How or what do you use for Toaster on hikes, of he goes with you. Terrain and hot ground to protect paws? I know they say to test heat of ground, put the back of your hand on the ground for 7 seconds. if you can't keep it on ground because its too hot, then your pet can have mild to severe injury to their paws. Just curious as I'm a new dog adopter. She is a senior dog so I want to make sure she is safe and comfortable too.
@KnittyNatty
@KnittyNatty 2 месяца назад
Aww yay!! You’ve done such a special thing adopting a senior dog. ☺️ We usually walk or hike early in the morning and in cooler weather, so the ground hasn’t had the chance to heat up. We always check trails/park rules to see if dogs are allowed. It’s about 50/50. He doesn’t wear anything on his paws, but of course we keep an eye out for sharp objects. Biggest danger so far has been those spiky things goat heads or grass spurs, they have a million names. Toaster will start to limp as soon as one gets in his paw pad, so we just pause and pull it out for him. I also have a collapsable water bowl for him that lays flat and can clip to my backpack to dry out. I fill it with one of my own water bottles.
@K1Junkie
@K1Junkie 2 месяца назад
@@KnittyNatty Thanks for responding 😊Thats 's great about the morning hours and weather forecasts. We usually have a go bag for her and she has her own "cooler" for her meals and snacks for road trips. It hasn't been too hot here but I see other dog owners use those booties. Being a somewhat new dog owner (1yr), I'm always open to ideas and helpful tips (mainly the safety ones) Love seeing Toaster on your hikes.
