As a Palu main, I thank you for this. Contrary to what a lot of people might say here, as someone who plays Palu I hardly feel carried by my character even if she is a really good character. With practice and my little bit of experience I've learned a lot of the things here (though I still sometimes need to force myself out of habits such as throwing an EF in neutral or nairing too much), but for example, I am currently practicing dthrow to bair, and I'm sure the tips in this video will help me a bit with that. And yes, our spam move should be fair or bair depending on the situation, not nair. Nair is a very punishable aerial if read.
Autoreticle has a use, I use it for poking charge up characters at a safe distance because most of the time they can't cancel fast enough and if they do they are usually dodging which then gives you an opportunity to attack or punish with her explosive flame. Sometimes I will let them get a full charge and just reflect it back but it is nice to have options.
Nice video! One thing I'd mention about auto-reticle is that it can be used as a true combo after hitting someone with explosive flame, so it's not completely useless outside of edgeguarding situations.
Autoreticle can be a good way to counter other zoners though, like a samus charging up shots or link throwing projectiles - you can jump and use autoreticle in the air to catch them off guard. If they are at the ledge camping you, it can usually knock them off with this strategy, which a lot of times makes them panic and try to jump back on, leading to a pretty easy punish with explosive flame or something else. Autoreticle also combos with explosive flame for most characters at low percent, which then can lead to another explosive flame if they aren't careful with their landing - this can potentially lead to several explosive flame / autoreticle chains in a row, racking up damage quickly
1:54 For this I like to press mostly straight up but slightly to the left. Just like using reverse Up Bs. I find it easier than trying to lightly press to the left and sometimes accidentally walking too far or dashing.
Autoreticle is useful against characters that have slow attacks AND against the ones that want to just scare you in the same place waiting for you to get closer to them. Also the forward tilt sometimes is useful for that. She has the autoreticle because she doesnt run so fast AND In general when players run away from her you can shoot them. U have to understand that she is an OP DEFENSIVE character. You have to calm down a bit with these character, not to jump and making useless movements with her. And last, it is not so necesary to jump a lot with she, because of the up smash or the others attacks as up tilt, down tilt, forward tilt and neutral attack.
What about the video was good? Just asking. The game is a year old, and everything in the video is stuff from literally day 1 palutena. If you didn't already know these things then you probably just don't play palutena
Why-Fi i am a palu main and here is my advice: don’t jump into her, or you’ll get nair’d. Respect her out of shield options and space according. Punish anyone using exploding flame in their neutral game. Watch out for exploding flames back into the stage when they recover. I get people trying to ledge trap me if they aren’t paying attention to my spacing for a surprise exploding flame. Learn how to 2 frame her recovery if your character has that option. Small characters that stay grounded can be tough for most Palu mains. Pikachu is a headache.
fthrow doesn't have set knockback, almost no throw in the game has set knockback. It's not a strong throw, and will probably only kill above 230%, but it definitely does not have set knockback
What about doing a RAR Bair after downthrow? That’s how I usually do it. Not always true of they DI but definitely hits most of the time with bad DI. I prefer that too buffering a turn around, especially if they DI away. Which do you feel is more consistent? Also seems like attack canceling could work here for a quick Bair.
Probably a dumb question, but can you do a video on how to play more defensively? I can play offensively pretty decently, but I struggle the most online against players who are super aggressive and just spam attacks because I don't have a good game plan on how to counter.
I was wondering of using Palutena as my secondary, i mean, she's really good and easy but she mostly can help me with a lot of matchups since Banjo is my main but i'm not sure yet.
If you mean RAR, you have to sprint, reverse, wait for the reverse to end, jump and b-air. Timing when you move your stick position from left to right is important. You can also use the right stick for the b-air input, it may be a bit easier
It was honestly fucking hilarious last night I was playing bowser Jr and I did all these intricate combos and got about 55 damage and this palutena caught me in 5 nairs and had more damage on me already XD I couldn’t DI outta em or anything it was so stupid and hilarious
Baiting like in this clip and the one right after. Your opponent may be able to predict where you'll end up (usually right on their face), but with so little time to see it's a lot harder to guess what Palu will do ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_S9ncx9kDU.html
Personally I wouldn’t really recommend this down grab back air it’s very hard to pull and kinda easy to DI out monetarily you want to go for down Fair or Nair I will say. Down back air kills but it’s just hard to pull off this a gray grab option
Lordkid xd lol yeah my best friend is a ness main so i play him a lot w my palu. He mixes his recoveries a lot. Only does Up B when he is really low which makes it risky for palu. PK thunder 2 could kill off stage easily. Definitely dont recover high w pk thunder, unless u must of it’s a mix up. Otherwise it is a pretty free punch.
Silly Jtails. You assume that Palutena mains are capable of sentient thought. I joke ;p. But this video made me laugh because I actually gave a few friends of mine the same advice. It's their first smash game (or pvp fighting game in general in the case of one) and they didn't understand the concept of spacing around expected moves.
one of the worst projectiles in the game. completely react-able. I guess on WIFI it's better lmao, but I tailor my videos towards offline competitive events.
Riley Kastner probably bc he sees people playing her w a sloppy neutral game. People tend to think they can nair spam and win with her. That doesn’t work too well at high level play, obviously.
