I made a circle center finder a few weeks ago. Such a simple, but precise tool. I tried it on the bottom of an empty drywall mud bucket, and it lined up perfectly with the little plastic dot in the center of the pail.

Making and designing your own tools is a most common and ancient practice for the apprentice. We did this in machining school, it opens the mind to other ideas and sharpens your skills in the meantime.

i absolutely LOVE my shapeoko. i don't do much complex stuff with it but it's so freaking rewarding to be in the shop and think "man, i could really use this thing here...or that thing there" and then BOOM....i make it on the shapeoko. I've been getting quicker in Carbide Create too, so that makes it even more satisfying. 👌🏻

Truth. The power of creation is one of our favorite things as well. Changes the way you look at the world.

The device to find the center of a circular object is really cool! 👍

I don't use it anymore since I changed my setup to allow for better access, but one of the first things I made with mine was a ramped guide that fit on the router carriage itself to keep my vacuum hose and power cord from snagging anywhere. I have a tall frame above the table now that allows for full hose extension, but keeps it out of the way with a light duty bungie to take up slack as the carriage moves closer to the front. Works perfectly.

on the round sanding blocks add some velcro to the bottoms and you can then use old hook and loop without the spray

I made a 22” by 7.5” French Curve for the shop. Sure I can go to the Office Supply/Amazon store to get a French Curve but 22”x7.5” is bigger than most and perfect for the shop. I’ll post it in Cut Rocket if anyone is interested.

Great idea, just about any curve can be designed on computer and routed out now.

Something that is coming up fast on my list is templates for electrical box cutouts on drywall since I consistently screw the hole up. It’s either too big, too small, or wrong location.

I made one years ago, before I had a CNC, and keep it in my toolbox when I do kitchen installs. I use it mostly for the plug cutouts in islands and microwave cabinets. Made the original with a router, in MDF. I've since made a new one with my CNC, with the exact same measurements.

On those round sanding blocks you made, instead of spraying and cutting out paper each time, you could use the hook and loop type made for random orbit sanders.

I got a job to cut slots in plastic housings for a large order of medical electronic devices. I had to purchase a special small diameter plastic cuttinng bit. Worked out great! Machine one, pop it out of the jig place another one in the jig, rinse repeat.

@carbide3d only issue I've had. Other than that, the machine has great. I use it for wood as well as carbon fiber. No issues with it's performance
