@@ToadboyVlogs I don't think the ring and bow masters are destroying eternal formats yet. They are 100% very strong cards but I think it's high time brainstorm took a break I legacy and modern is a format of answers plenty of which exile the ring. I'm waiting for the meta to develop further around these cards
@@hairypassage Jace is an original character from Magic the Gathering and Tyranids are from 40k at the end of the day. It's okay if you don't care about the themeing on cards but that doesn't hold for everyone else.
Have thought of glenn, but my playgroyp has made it perfectly clear they dont want us to use the walking dead cycle unless they are reprinted outside of secret lair

That Pirate deck is actually one I see every week. In the playgroup, it feels like a 9. The ramp and card advantage is genuinely absurd. Combine that with the fact Ragavan synergizes too... yeah its not my favorite to play against.
That's crazy because I have that deck and it has never won a single game. I do play against really aggressive people but even when I get my engine going pirates just don't have a way to close out the game well
@@blaze556922 That exactly it. They don't close out a game through combat. Instead. The deck I play also pairs up breeches, so he gets a mad shitton of treasures so early you can't stop his win cons. A pinger, and an untap engine. Freed From the Real, Pemmin's Aura, another pinger. Either way, they generate so many treasures that it hits the field, guarded by counterspells, and goes infinite. It's not uncommon to see him try to go infinite twice in the same turn after people counterspell him once. You just need to rework the deck and it'll be a monstrosity.
@@LDPofclan935 That's cool if you like to win that way but we don't play any combos, infinite anything, or I win cards. We win through combat and keep the countering to a minimum. All about that meta I guess
@@blaze556922 Then that's your playgroup. We have a deck for about every powerlevel. I prefer even then to not play my t10 decks or powerful decks. I like playing the fun stuff, or splashy stuff for sure. Just built a WUBRG Forced Attack deck and it'd brutal in a battleship meta. You don't get to touch me and I just win.
"Is it still cool to hate on TWD SL cards?" Yes. Yes it is. It will always be cool to hate on greedy corporate practices that ultimately deliver hyper-exclusive and sub-par products. Glen deserves to be underplayed, as do the rest of the cards in that SL set. I didn't like the Stranger Things set either, but at least they have made actual alternate MTG cards for them. They have yet to do this for TWD cards, and almost none are that good anymore anyway.

Agreed. Knowing that they will do functional reprints or even same card functionality like ikoria does make me feel better about universes beyond. At least I can play with a card that he's the equivalent of Glen but not actually him.
I swapped out dargo for breeches in my Malcom deck and have had more fun with it since. Stealing cards from people feels more piratey than comboing out. Arrrrr dargo still be in the 99 though matey. I promise I don’t talk like a pirate when I play the deck 😬
Academy manufactor with maybe a few clones of academy goes nuts when Malcom triggers. I also run Breeches as the other commander and it is by far one of my favorite decks to play.
@@squaglelabs5658 Perhaps, but from what I've seen from Malcolm players, they almost never swing with Malcolm. They just try to get out Glint Horn and win.

Glenn will probably see more play soon now that they have announced they will be printing the TWD cards with the next instance of Within Universe in Eldraine.
they had a shuffle scuffle on this channel where joe played a Muxus deck and I think it showcased why its not a popular commander, even if its good enough for the goblin deck.
Secret commander vannifar would be fun. A friend made the "etn untap vannifar sac the guy search etb untap vannifar" edition and it was a bit TOO consistently taking 15 minute turns.
No the walking dead cards need to be banned from every single format and treated like the ante cards a horrid mistake that should never be repeated ever
I swapped from muxus to krenko purely because my muxus deck either instantly won once he hit the table or I got stomped before he could hit the table 😅
Combo line is easy. If you can sac dargo to a phyrexian altar, you can cast him infinitely so long as you had..3 treasures to cast him. Pair with an etb or ltb trigger. I'd personally avoid that, still aiming to cast him a lot, but trying to utilise the "commander cast matters" cards like Fury storm. Glint horn buccaneer is another infinite Combo with Malcolm. Put in a bunch of pirates and izzet staples and done
Same, I can play mine though but everyone will target me. I wonder why. Still funny those few games I get sol ring starting hand so I end up winning a 1v5
@@leonjakobsen272 Secret lair cards shouldn't be new cards. If the Walking Dead cards were reprints, and just cool designs like previous Secret Lairs, it'd be fine. The fact that they're a blatant money grab, just like Street Fighter, is ridiculous. It's my way of not supporting Wizards, or the people who spent money on those cards.

See I think you’ve immediately run into the flaw of this metric. Taking edhrec deck numbers as being equivalent to play rate becomes less accurate in specific circumstances like Vannifar. With that type of Pod deck, there’s a few established lines that just work, so if you were going to play the deck you’d probably just use a preexisting list more often than you’d be making your own deck list, at least when compared to other commanders.
There’s a local format called “PiLander” which is commander but with a pioneer set restriction and separate ban list, and I’m currently working on a Rootha deck for it. The point is that it’s forced to be lower power and gives a new and interesting deck building restriction in the form of pioneer.
The only secret lair I can actually like are the Warhammer ones that are coming out. At least wizards already owned that series beforehand. They aren't great neither were the Street Fighter ones either. But hey, at least they are a part of a likable franchise. Also, I will have to try that Pirate Beatdown deck.
So much fun. At the moment mine just chains into protean hulk then stormtide leviathan and well most people know what happens after with protean hulk. Infinite mana and then some card to use it which I picked spectral sailor to draw my deck then play labman.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who still thinks The walking Dead has no place in Magic but since they are doing functional reprints such as the ones for stranger things, it will be fine. I will only build decks using those alternate cards though. I will never own a Glenn deck

I tried building it but im stuck after a few games, how do you deal with having so few lands? it hurts to activate every turn just to draw a card (and ill usually reanimate an artifact that cantrips, so really drawing 2 cards)
@@SimpleVisionVideos have a bunch of things that let you bring lands back in, such as walking atlas, archaeomancer's map, etc. cards that care about you behind behind on lands are key in the deck
Malcolm/Dargo Buccaneer Bash is a fun and dangerous deck. Surprised more people don't run them outside of cEDH. They're actually competitive pirates people, try them out.
It will never, ever be cool to play, use, or even talk about those pos walking dead cards. Every commander players favorite: cards from outside Magic's IP.
I had a glenn control style deck and it was so oppressive. Most of the time I won through Glenn himself with a jitte or something. That decks drew so many cards
I built my friend a Malcolm and Breeches pirate deck with Dargo in the 98. I just think the stealing mechanic is more fun. It was his first deck, so I wanted to show what MtG does so differently to Pokemon, like stealing other people's shit. Pirate tribal is fun... and getting more powerful after treasures are becoming more important. I hope he upgrades that deck... if not, I might buy it off him now he is into building his own decks.
Wizards said they were reprinting every secret lair exclusive after 6 months into The List. Hasn’t it been over a year since the Walking Dead secret lair?
The walking dead is excluded from that list. They sold TWD as "this is the only time to buy" the reprints only affect the SL after the walking dead as far as I know.
I can only play vannifar against people who haven't gone against it yet cause everyone would rather sacrifice everything to kill vannifar before summoning sickness goes away. Cmon guys I just chain up to protean hulk get infinite mana and then use spectral sailor to draw my deck and win with lab man.
@@eddiemarohl5789 mine wasn't really competitive version of the deck but it was still really good. I just used untap, blink, and haste abilities to use vannifar 8 to 10 times a turn then just get to things like ghalta and emrakul it was honestly pretty nasty getting any of the eldrazi titans on like turn 5 it was usually a turn 6 to 7 win in a casual setting I'm sure it really wouldn't hold up to a well built competitive deck.
oh hey I already made a malcolm/dargo deck. I don't get the appeal of malcolm/breeches that much, I can't summon breeches faster than usual with treasure tokens, and I don't have to spend mana to do 7 commander damage to someone either.
Yes it's still cool to hate the walking dead cards. The "accessible" reprints of the stanger things card where added to the list ... Yup totally accessible
