Woo Young Woo fixates on whales early on because whales don't abandon their young. She says it in an episode. Woo Young Woo's mother abandoned her, thus she loves whales because they dont do what her mother did to her. Whales are much more noble than her mother.

Many people just watch the chemistry between the male and female lead, and they miss much of the other parts that the writer and the director are trying to tell the viewers. I always find the ability of translators to make wordplay in one language work in another to be impressive. “The needle sewed/sued the thread” is not a wordplay in Korean as the words for sewed and sued are not similar. In Korean, the joke is “Kimbap and sesame oil were fighting. Kimbap ended up getting caught by the police. Do you know why? Because sesame oil sued it / is savory.” and the wordplay is on sue / savory. Doing a good job translating a show is not about just a straight translation, it’s about keeping humor, metaphor or idiom in place even when they don’t translate well.

YES YES YES! I'm not smart enough to learn another language, heck I struggle with English most days 😅 and I have always been in awe of this talent/hard work/level of intelligence when I have the pleasure of witnessing it! (For any cartoon lovers, another show that does this well on Netflix is a chinese donghou Scissor Seven. It's so impresive because this show that always leaves me in absolute stitches is incredibly painful to watch with literal translations on youtube)
@stevenmark4004
@stevenmark4004 Год назад
Thanks for this. How about the "sentence" joke? There must be some other kind of wordplay going on there too. And how about the "kayak, noon, racecar" bit that Woo Young Woo uses to introduce herself? In English, those kind of words are called palindromes. They can be phrases too, as in "What did the first man say to Eve?" "Madam, I'm Adam." So how does Woo's self-introduction translate literally in Korean? I'm sure we're all missing a lot of the wit in this show because of the language barrier.
@ChrisHillOlympicRecurveArchery
@@stevenmark4004 the words she uses when translated into english dont work because of the enlgish spelling. So they used english palindrones that did work to get the effect and make sense. She doesnt actually say racecar, kayak and noon.

This Korean Drama is so well written and intelligent done that I look forward to Season 2. I believe that it will win the comparison to the Emmy for the drama and special acting by Park Eu Bin and others. I am disappointed there weren't more than 16 Episodes because I was totally invested in this series compared to others. Thank you for putting so much energy and not compromising the value of the Autism Spectrum for viewers to understand not be totally overwhelmed by this illness. However, I enjoyed this show more than The King's Affection which was one of my favorites. The actress that plays "Attorney Young Woo's mother Atty Taes I could see the grin of a mother being proud of her daughter who had a love interest relationship. It made her seem human and proud that despite her Autism condition she can lure a man to like her so much and be in a relationship. It does happens. However, I believe the mother is especially proud that she was able to up one up "twice" in one of the episodes where she was in charge of the defense. It was great to see the two mother and daughter arguing over the law and seeing the daughter genius top the mother twice. So that was to me exciting to watch. Also, I see the parallels between the mother and her daughter and son have similar perfectionism about keeping things in line or order. Amazing that it was thrown in so there could not be any confusion that Atty Woo was born to Atty Taes.

This might be controversial but I like Tae su Mi a lot because until some point far in the series (when she talked about sending Woo Young Woo to the USA) she NEVER mentionned woo’s autism… she was just speechless concerning her abilities. I liked that a lot. And even when she mentionned woo’s autism ONLY to send jer to the USA, it was to trick woo’s father making him think he didn’t do enough for her. She had no interest in her autism whatsoever. I found it beautiful.

What makes her more human is that in final eps, her son told Woo that he found out her mother looking up Woo's information and crying while on a call with her mom (Woo's grandma). I believed that many people misunderstood her. She didn't want to have kid back then, she was too young and she came from noble family. She got responsibility to be the successor of Tae San lawfirm. It was amazing that she agreed to put herself through unwanted pregnancy and childbirth instead of aborting the baby. After that, she just chose to move on. At 1.03 you mentioned that WYW's father was currently reviewing for the Bar exam. Not sure if that's true cos there was one episode (I think it's when WYW was in hospital) where he explained to his daughter that after graduating with the Law degree he never took the Bar because he did not want to bump into Tae Sumi and did everything unrelated to law. Then he said he regretted that decision cos when nobody wanted to employ WYW, he wished he had opened up his own law firm and handed it down to her.

The problem is channels like this one who continue to speculate as if they have some inside knowledge, when in reality they have none at all. It keeps the click count, therefore revenue, up. Apart from the the actors having other projects and obligations, there is one compelling reason why the writer and director may not want to create another season. That is, the premise for this series of stories is predicated on the principal character being on the Autism spectrum. The great danger (in fact, likelihood) in creating another set of stories based on this character is that the portrayal of Asperger's Syndrome descends into a parody, which would likely be upsetting and offensive to many. And it would be surprising if Park Eun Bin wasn't aware of this. There is a limit to which Asperger's symptoms can be used for entertainment. There is nothing more that can be wrung from this character, so it would be absolutely right to stop now.

I mean it’s not as though Tae Su Mi outright says she doesn’t want Young Woo. I think rather it’s something extremely difficult for her and in the end we should consider that she did indeed give birth to Young Woo. She doesn’t necessarily show animosity towards Young Woo and lets her other kid come clean about his hacking. She was almost completely safe with the secret but decided to be a “good” mom. You can tell she raised her second son well based on the fact he was wracked with guilt over what happened. Tae Su Mi isn’t a bad character in my book.
@user-lf6cf2ro4i

@Sophiess, Tae Su Mi may not feel animosity towards Young Woo but she is definitely not feeling “safe” with the secret from her past. Also Tae Su Mi may be her normal self when she’s in the presence of Young Woo but her continuous attempts to send Young Woo away to the U.S. in order to keep the secret of her having Young Woo out of wedlock from coming to the surface says otherwise.🙄😕 Tae Su Mi reflected on what her actions or decision to become minister of justice and the negative effects it would have had on her son thanks to Young Woo changing her mind in time, by not doing so she would have sacrificed her own son all for the sake of her professional career.🫤🤦🏻‍♂️

A few thoughts: I think you are incorrect in saying Woo Young Woo's father was studying for the bar. it was later revealed that he purposely stayed away from the law profession as part of his promise to Tae Su-Mi. It's not even clear he finished law school. He might have kept the books around, not really knowing what to do with them. Regarding the feud between Tai and Han, that excerpt explains it, but I wonder why it was not included in the original series. It's a relatively short scene. Could it be that by that time there were already rumblings about a second season? In which case that would give the creators the chance to come up with a much more convoluted story for their rivalry, which will be played out in the next season. Stealing each others' clients happens quite frequently in the law business. No use getting so mad over it. And regarding the possibilty of an old love triangle, well, by the time this story takes place, Han is obviously very successful. Seems doubtful she would be carrying a 20-plus years long grudge over over Tae stealing her law school boyfriend, whom we haven't even seen yet. And besides, Han is kind of hot. If she wanted to, I'm sure she would have had her opportunities with other men by now. So I think the creators are working to develop a much more devious plot to explain their rivalry. At least I hope so. Anyway, I love this show. All these little details don't matter when you watch Park Eunbin, who is simply amazing in this role -- charming, vulnerable, interesting, lovely and compelling all at the same time.

I am happy that Season 1 was "fulfilling" enough to serve as a series end because with the male lead having to do his compulsory military service and Park Eun Bin saying the roll is difficult, we may not see a season 2. Park Eun Bin is on the world stage now, and it is likely that bigger roles will come her way. For those looking for something similar, I recommend Astrid et Raphelle, a French TV Series that I think may have served as the inspiration for Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Sarah Mortenson is equally compelling as Astrid and I would venture to bet that her performance influenced the way Woo behaves. Both are excellent. Astrid is a bit more serious but easy to get hooked into. Astrid is on Amazon Prime. Both Astrid and Woo are exceptionally good shows though.

Started watching theses k-dramas for some reason about 4-5 months ago. And some Chinese ones as well. Some were so dumb I stopped watching and some so good I couldn't get enough. But this one, to me, topped all of them. SO WELL DONE AND ACTED!!! I don't even want to put it in the same category as a "K-Drama". Just an excellent TV show that happens to come from Korea. I've heard of the US wanting to make an American version. Stupid dumb move. A money grab that will compare. Besides, they did do an excellent one (Temple Grandin) starring Claire Danes which I seen in another video Woo Young Woo's character is loosely based on. Hollywood no longer has it's own ideas. I hope there is a season 2 for sure and my wish is Woo Young-Woo and Jun-Ho further their relationship (no more break ups), more good courtroom dramas and a get down to the nitty gritty with the two CEO's.

I really enjoyed Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Something that annoys me is the voice over on the video continually calls her Attorney Ew. It's Attorney Woo. Not Ew.

Guess the second season would have to handle her bf being another actor because this actor has to do 2 yrs military service. Or maybe they will prerecord his limited role ahead of time. Or maybe a new bf. Who knows.

Many Korean dramas leave many things unexplained. Some characters are introduced with no background story whatsoever leaving us asking in the end why. That's an absolute nono in creative writing.

Many people think what Tae Su Mi propose to send Young Woo to the States is selfish. I think the opposite.

@Arm Nakornthab Just examine the motive of the mother. Where is she all these years while Young Woo was growing up? She has money and means to offer her daughter the best care, but she didn't do a thing. That's why Young-woo said "you were not a good mother to me".
@armnakornthab6867
@armnakornthab6867 Год назад
@@gloriakohler415 I still think the opposite. According to the series, anything has political matters behind what happens. The fact that Su Mi didn't show up at all may have been due to political reasons. If she really is a bad mother, she won't shed tear when she knows Woo's identity. She wants her to have the best chance and best place so that why she offers the accommodation in Boston. Later, even her father thinks of the same thing. If season 2 is produced, we will see all truth behind this.

It's probably both. She is thinking of herself how to quietly make her daugter keep away from media as well as giving her best option. U can argue which comes first but also shows she's conflicted.

@@armnakornthab6867 🤯🤨Are you serious, Tae Su Mi is shedding a tear not because of regret but because of pure shock and guilt in that very moment.😒 her continuous attempts to send Young Woo away to the U.S. may seem like she’s doing it because she cares for her by getting Young Woo in a facility that would help her navigate her autism but in reality it’s Tae Su Mi’s way of trying to keep her away so there’s no chance of her past of having Young Woo out of wedlock from coming out. The only reason why Young Woo’s dad was thinking about taking Young Woo to the U.S. wasn’t because of Tae Su Mi or because he thought it was a good idea it was solely because he knew that Han was going to reveal that Young Woo is Tae Su Mi’s daughter as she personally let him know in advance in episode 15.

@@user-lf6cf2ro4i Have you watched? Tae Su Mi proposed sending Young Woo to the States at the end of ep 10 and around ep 11 or 12 there was a scene where her father asking her about going to the States. That was long before ep 15.

@Lila Lana, So far from what the show has showed us, there is a flashback scene in episode 8 when Young Woo’s dad is explaining to her his past with Tae Su Mi and he says she didn’t want to marry a poor guy like him. He also said there might be reasons as to why be he doesn’t know them.
