this gave me hope that i can go back to school for my MBA. i had cancer two years ago, so i think if i can get through that i think I could get through an MBA program to further my career.

Christina Corso I had cancer too back in 2005 and lost 8 years of school probably more. I went back in 2013 to get a BA and I about to finish in Summer. I am planning on moving to a Ph.D :)

The sad thing is that grad school students are getting the same jobs that the previous generation got with Bachelor's but have to put up with 2 years and 80 hours a week of studying and destroying their relationships, and mental, physical health in the process

@@alexxx3021 is definitely required for some. My friend is an English major and he only needs a bachelors degree. On the other hand, I need atleast a Masters degree to be a clinical psychologist because you can’t do much or get a job with a bachelors psychology degree.

Undergrad is something people pursue for a degree but also a range of life experiences. Graduate school is purely a career move, meant to help someone move up in a company. Many undergrad students only have responsibilities to their coursework, and maybe a team and maybe a part time work study job. Graduate students often have full time jobs or GA positions, and it’s common for them to have responsibilities to other human beings (ie their children). It’s not to “re-live” college. Grad and undergrad are totally different beings; they just happen to take place I’m gone same or similar facilities.
@SaraMarie
@SaraMarie 6 лет назад
Exactly! Although I do have friends who are graduate students who do not work and who's only responsibility is school. Thanks for the input!

I agree. But I wanted to add that there is a great deal of research involved in research/ theory- based masters. What I mean is the formation of hypothesis, proving, and quantifying results. For such programs, a background in statistics is helpful.

I am an undergrad student, and I was making power points and essays with groups projects. Some of my classes where discussion base, and others where lecture base, and some mix. However, some classes had experience discussions, but not much. Further, there are some classes that was mainly essays, and others did not have much essays, and a few, none at all. Very interesting how different it is, based on class to class. Personally I prefer discussion and group work, because as a group, we can learn so much from each other.
@SaraMarie

I think it really depends on the class and the professor. I’m taking a masters accounting course now and it’s very similar to my bachelors degree

At the college level, weather or not English is your second language, you need to have the fundamentals of the language down. Basic subject verb agreement and noun adjective agreement is essential. It's the same in Spanish. Some classes were fun is correct. Some classes was fun is not correct. People will think you are an idiot without knowing this, because children learn this in school at 8 years old.

After watching the TV show NBC's "Community" I have this fantasy about going to college and writing TV shows that take place around college or there students with different genres of stories. Do you think there should be more TV shows that take place in college/grad school because there's so many teen shows? I have ideas for college shows. Comedies like "Victorious" or "Friends", action/fighting, mystery-drama, drama's like "the O.C.". , suspense maybe like "Riverdale" or "Mr.Robot", sci-fi like "Roswell" or "Smallville" , and even rom-com stories

I work well with others on the job, but I’m horrible at working in a group for class. Maybe I’ll try to do more online classes at my university. I’ve had zero group projects during class, for my associates degree 😬

hey ! I am planning on pursuing my master degree in financial economics soon and I was wondering how many classes you would recommend in taking for a person who works for full time?
@SaraMarie
@SaraMarie 6 лет назад
I think it depends on the program. For my program, 2 classes a semester is considered full-time and that's with the students working full-time jobs.

You put together a really great video - very insightful. Do you work in public accounting or corporate? What is your goal post graduation - you said you wanted to move up in your company - same department or different? Do you want to do accounting, finance, or something else? All the best to you!
@SaraMarie

Thanks! I currently work in corporate. I graduated with my MBA in May and I’m currently working on my CPA. Ideally, in the near future, I would like to move up at my company and become an accounting manager. Long-term, I’m still figuring that out 😊

Projects include coming up with a company idea and creating a business plan and then presenting it to the class. There are other types of projects we did but that’s one we did a lot.

In the real world (at least my experience) i didnt work in many groups. Sure there was lot of collaborating within my department but I was responsible for my work. Sounds like these group projects can have one or two people carrying the loads. Coming back to edit I want to add I have been considering going back for masters but I am older with more responsibilities. Not sure if it is worth it now.

How much of this would you say is solely specific to Accounting majors? For example, I'm going into Humanities, so I'm just trying to gauge if these things would also apply to my discipline. Thank you!
@SaraMarie

Unfortunately, I don't know. I think it really depends on the school. The masters program at the school I got my bachelors degree is completely different from the school I'm currently going to.

What would you recommend for a master’s program an MBA or an MSA (Master’s in Accountancy). What is a better foundation for a strong career in Accounting?
@SaraMarie
@SaraMarie 6 лет назад
Great question! I did a lot of research into this and found that most people recommend the MBA over a MSA in accounting. Again, that’s what I heard but I think it could vary depending on who you ask.

Hey Sara Marie, So right now I'm studying in Japan, and the university I'm studying in offers business courses in the English language. My question is, If i majored in Accounting, after graduation will it be difficult for me (as foreigner) to find a job in US, UK, or Canada... ? or can I find an accounting Job in Japan, even though my degree is in English?

Thank you for your explination. It is curious, how you talk about your Master. At my university you do all this in the bachelor. In the high school (Gymansium the last 2 years) we have courses like you are disribing in your bachelor.

@SaraMarie 7 лет назад
Anneli Mauricio thanks! Honestly I have no idea! People ask all the time and all I can say is I've just accepted that I have no "me" time anymore. Luckily my company is paying for a nice portion of my tuition so it's not too much out of my pocket. But even so I hope that I will get a nice promotion when I graduate which hopefully makes up for the student loans. I actually did a day in the life video that is going up tomorrow and I talk a little about how I do it so definitely look out for that!
