Oh yeah? I think I will attempt it. I want so much to master the human head. Both Male and female. When I am Sketching a man's face I always put facial hair, beards, mustaches, 5 o'clock shadow. .. to make it look like a Male. Wish me luck. I am an amateur artist going on for 2 years in May.
o o I am currently doing that, but I don't think it's a bad thing because it sets goals for me so I can improve and the people I show become shocked :)
I have been simply filling my sketchbook by seeing from Google. But I wasn't happy with them, to me they looked quite foreign and lacked creativity. Now I just draw what comes to mind and using your tips, they helped a lot and I feel a lot closer to my drawings. Its a fun relaxing hobby I can use to get away from all the stress academics put me through. ❤
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR SUCH POSITIVE FEEDBACK! I hope you guys are staying creative and enjoying drawing in your sketchbook! :) Don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel not to miss videos every week! And let me know what other topics you would find helpful! -Jess
Since I can't get myself pick up my pencil and sketchbook I decided to watch some art tips and stuff Thank you, i kinda feel better now lol Since I'm stuck I can't create something 🤦🏻♀️ but after watching your vid gives me a bit of inspiration
When I was a little kid we had a black and white tv so I only ever saw cartoons in greyscale, when sketch with pencil I get an almost realist drawing as a result.
thank you! your channel is so inspiring and today especially I needed some motivation. I always am so stressed with my drawings but watching you in both the mediums and the 100 heads challenge made me happier and more inspired. thanks again
I love this! Great tips! You are very disciplined to do art consistently and your talent shows. You create things so fast and confidently. Working on that.
summary 1) draw from life (like apples or your cat)- think about lighting and composition 2) create a character- take an object and turn it into a character 3) challenge yourself- draw 100 of anything 4) doodle away- just get your hand moving 5) reference study black/white and color- find a picture and paint it
Your cat made me subscribed 😆 (kidding aside) I just want to thank you for making me feel 'okay' and ready to take new challenges when it comes to art. Ever since I took up art class things turned up complicated, it made me constrict to do anything about art. That made me stop doing art (except in school works) but now that my course in college is related to art, I'm trying to gain my confidence back on the track. I'm starting tomorrow to fill up my ooooolddd sketchbook. 😊
thank you so much for the tips I'm a beginner and you made me positive,I really enjoyed every scene in this video, and I hope that one day I'll be a great artist
I know I have some artistic talent, but right now there is no creativity in my brain, but I know this video is gonna help! Btw, the art is amazing! Love your style :D
this video was in my suggestion page at the right time. I love the tips and ideas as well as your art. I can't wait to watch all your other videos (after I start drawing in my own sketchbook) 💕🥰
I personally like to pick a random song title from my playlist and create a drawing from that. This keeps me from drawing the same things over and over.
YOU DREW A MONEY TREE TOO?! Brilliant minds think alike I swear I didn’t copy you this is my first time hearing about your money tree, if you want to see mine, I have a picture in one of my shorts
This is a nice video. But when I look at it, I’m also reminded of that one Homer Simpson quote: “Now that’s a nice looking grill... WHY DOESN’T MINE LOOK LIKE THAT!? UUAAARGH!!” I know the answer is it takes time to master something new. But the struggle is real, is all I’m saying. :p
summary : draw from life create charcters with random things take a challenge or draw a 100 of a thing just doodle whatever comes to ur mind draw a refrence in black and white and color
I’m stuck at just drawing simple lines, let alone shapes. I’ve been seriously studying art for a decade now and I can’t _trace_ lines accurately-half of them cross or go the wrong direction and I don’t feel or see it happening. I’m disabled and I’m really worried art just isn’t accessible to me. How did you learn to draw lines?
5 ways to fill your sketchbook 1. Draw from life 0:45 2. Create a character 2:55 3. Challenge yourself 4:30 4. Doodle away (while listening to music) 5:38 5. Reference study BW + color 7:27
@@artofjesskarp Like really, The first time I noticed that you replied on this comment I thought u would say: Why do u want people not to watch the whole video
If you look at the two drawings she does at the beginning, they're very cute cartoons of herself! Your cartoons will get a lot more expressive and easier to do with these exercises, and soon you'll get to that stage where it flows easily instead of having to stop and figure out how things 'work'
If you are just starting a sketchbook, remember it doesn't have to perfect at all. You don't need to noticeably improve and you don't need a masterpiece on every page! Have fun, don't worry about the looks or perfection, and remember you don't need to be the best at art to draw or use it a sketchbook
Something helpful for if you do struggle with perfectionism is to have 2 sketchbooks: 1 for anything art, no matter if it's "good" or not. 2 for those "good" drawings, for when you give it your all in a piece! (I mean't to just add to the og comment, sorry)
I swear this is the only video that actually helped- 💀 Most people just say stuff like “just keep practicing and filling up pages,” and I get that, but this video is a lot more helpful and inspiring. Thanks 👏😔
I’m learning how to draw again. I went to art school, but it was like they were steering me in a certain direction. I was taught that my own drawing style wasn’t good. Had a 3 year drawing break where I felt like all my creativity was gone. Videos like this really help and I’m drawing everyday again.
Yeah art school isn't exactly the best if you want to continue down a happy art path. I think it's more for people who want to learn art by the book to become critics/ sell classic art styles. Which doesn't fit everyone.
@@aylamiller5752 yes, that's why I'm confused whether should I continue art school or not, problem is there are too assignments assigned which is not very enjoyable because we are supposed to make it perfect. We are constantly compared and everyday is new things and can't really complete and understand the previous ones. What really is everyday is new and random which doesn't link and can be easily forgotten. Teachers are in constant hurry and doesn't give time to even understand and constantly change what we create telling 'this is not how you must do'
@@sometimesitslonely I get that it’s hard, it’s important for young people to start nurturing to their own needs, instead of someone elses, they need to find their own voice instead of listening to someone elses. And constantly hearing negative feedback, puts you in a negative mood. But don’t get discouraged, It’s been a year for me since my last comment, and in that year, I got a contract with a publisher, started my own company where I sell my art, and I have many people who want to work together! It will all work out for you if you keep working hard for it! And embrace your uniqueness!
Your 100 head challenge has motivated me to start my own challenge. I am always doing portraits but I do think I need to work on my typography and lettering perhaps I’ll do a challenge for that!
Good luck with that personal challenge! 💪I want to do that challenge, but the amount of time scares me, not sure if I could stay motivated if I do bunch of ugly heads😅 hahahaha I do better by setting goals..
@@carolinewithe787 The 100 heads one is super fun--you should do it! I started a few weeks ago (taking my time) as a complete beginner and I see so so so much progress already. I feel like a real artist now hah.
@@carolinewithe787 honestly the 100 heads challenge improves you so quickly and if your motivation is getting the heads out and not creating perfect work, which really it will have to be, even at 10 heads a day, you have to move fast, then you'll get through it.
I would totally do all of these but i always subconciously pressured myself in art so I ended up becoming a sad perfectionist (oops) and I have commitment issues and cant stick to anything I try to do... but i'll definitely try to at least do one of them. this was very helpful, so thank you!
Same 😅😢 But I'm so glad for youtube and for such inspiration like jess to help calm my mind down in this crazy monotonous life that I often end up letting myself endure. I just got introduced to brush pens recently too. So cool. Cheers, guys! Thanks, Jess 😊
Someone told me that “you draw what you see” and that changes my perspective. Don’t push yourself too hard to be better, there’s always time for improvement❤️
I found it very difficult to understand shading and highlighting in painting. Especially in human body paintings. Would you do a video talking about it, please?! 🙏🏼
These tips were great! You’re such a great artist! I love the variety of mediums and styles you can draw. Your art is so mesmerizing! Thanks for the video, Jess.
