These videos are no doubt useful with first time buyers purchasing a fixer upper for their first home since many older properties still have the original 2 wire circuitry. In most cases installing GFCI protection will suffice and is a compromise between added safety and the cost of running new NM, which can easily cost thousands depending on the layout of the home.

I would highly recommend using a dual function breaker when correcting an open ground situation caused by old style cloth sheathed NM even in areas not requiring AFCI protection because NM with ground hit the market in the mid 1950s and was required by 1962 so any cable without ground is going to be 60 years old at best, and gets very brittle and prone to cracking and peeling with age particularly in hot attics and in light fixtures which may have held high wattage incandescent bulbs in the past, which brings a better chance of arc faults.

I have an idea for a Video Things we as electricians do to get past the crappy sheetrocks and cut wires and mudd filled boxes .. I had probably 10 different crews and they ALL suck

I'm in the middle of a remodel of house that was built in 1951 with two prong receptacles without an equipment ground. I'd like to switch them out to 3 prong receptacles and bring them up to code by installing GFCI breakers. Two circuits on separate legs are three wire with a shared neutral. If one circuit draws 10 amps and the other draws 5 amps, will the imbalance on the neutral cause the breaker(s) to trip? If not, should I use a double pole 240v GFCI breaker or two single pole breakers?

Worth mentioning that a plug tester will not test on a gfi or gfi breaker on the circuit with no ground

You are showing 3 prong receptacles down stream. Does that also require a grounding conductor for those receptacles? On a side note, I’m assuming the stickers are only required because of not having an equipment ground??? I can’t imagine those ugly blue stickers from Leviton on bedroom outlets protected by AF/GF. Lol - Eaton makes pretty white stickers.

In the video you say to "run a ground wire" to a known grounded point on the other side of the wall. Since running a wire (by itself) is not up to code, I feel you must mean "run a cable" that includes a ground wire.

No, you are allowed to physically run an individual stranded wire one of the only places in the code

And I'm sorry it's not required to be stranded I meant a single strand as a reference

or the fixture has no ground at all like some desk lamps
