Explosive power is foundational to athletes in most sports. It's also an extremely complex area of training to understand. In this video you will learn about the mixed methods approach to training for power.
Sources:
Developing Explosive Muscular Power: Implications for a Mixed Methods Training Strategy (Robert U. Newton, William J. Kraemer...).
Training for Speed/Strength: Heavy vs. Light Loads (W. Young).
Training principles for Power (G. Gregory Haff; Sophia Nimphiu).
How much strength is necessary? (Michael H. Stone, Gavin Moir, Mark Glaister and Ross Sanders).
Power Training: The Key to Athletic Success (David F. Armstrong).
The level of effort, rather than muscle exercise intensity determines strength gain following a six-week training (CH. Jiang)

@waylow83
@waylow83 Год назад
@mostafa khemissi I started boxing 4 years ago. I was 200lbs at 30% body fat. 140lbs now at 16% body fat. First things first, get you eating in order. I don't mean dieting, diets are temporary. Eat protein carbs and fibre. Keep away from chocolate and foods with added sugar. Plenty of videos on RU-vid to help with workouts combinations etc. It's a gradual process. Try doing steady State Cardio on the heavybag 10+ minutes to help build your tank for the harder weeks ahead. Give us an update if possible. Curious to know if you've already started. Good luck.

Also, athleticism means body coordination, look into depth in EVERY MOVEMENT, if you wanna be exceptional in your sport, that’s how you make it look effortless, core strength, hip strength, key, mobility, if it hurts when you move it then it’s weak, body coordination will make you levitate

Hi,should we avoid training to failure when training for speed/power?
@tptonypham2323
@tptonypham2323 3 года назад
Weights need to be heavy enough to overload muscles with tension, but not too much that you cannot execute the exercise properly. Reaching till failure help you recruit more muscle fibers, but make sure it’s save. The body is only going to grow, when it’s really needed - this is a survival mechanism.

I’d say about a 2.5x body weight squat is where low velocity strength gains no longer become beneficial. Thoughts?

Which exercises are good for punching power in boxing?
@Bi0pandemic
@Bi0pandemic Год назад
You need both velocity and force to throw fast and heavy punches, honestly you need all of the above except high velocity strength imo. You dont want to weight train to often as that leads to more muscle which you dfont want as that will slow you down
@mcmerry2846
@mcmerry2846 2 года назад
what about these lightweights x 30 reps + FAST EXECUTIONS???
@PowerTraining
@PowerTraining 2 года назад
Considering you go maximal effort, you would probably peak the first 1-6 reps, and then, your power would significantly decrease and finally at the higher reps, it's just like endurance training for the body.
@acts9835
@acts9835 Год назад
Boxer here, is 5 pound weights too light for speed training? I lie down on the floor and dumbell press 5 pound weights as fast and as explosively as I can too potentially increase my punching speed or power. (my weight is 155 and my bench is 215) Im also trying to avoid getting mass.
@rigohook1160
@rigohook1160 Год назад
Hey, mate. Former boxer here. I think it's way to light, not an expert tho, so take the following advice with a grain of salt. I'd find out what my maximum bench press would be, take a third of the weight away and woukd press that as fast as i can. But avoiding getting more mass, as you said, this could be not for you, if you have to stay in your weight class.
@acts9835
@acts9835 Год назад
@@rigohook1160 it actually helps apparently, power lifters use really light weights and go as fast as they can just too get that extra velocity boost. Kinda like how manny pac throws combos as fast as he can too gain speed and endurance. The bench you described is good for power training and velocity training. As long as you have a low calorie diet and high protien diet you wont gain muscle but youll get stronger.

Since Power = Force x Velocity And Force = mass x acceleration Would body building aka training for size to increase the mass be beneficial/ a good use of time when training for power? (For a punch in boxing or a throw in football)
