I have liked watching you guys for some time now. I have never written a comment on any RU-vid video. I’m 62 and enjoy your videos immensely. Your videos are quick, to the point, and might i say hysterical. Never ever are you boring.....thank you. Some people think they need to tell you about how to open the box that it came in......really. Anyway 5 ways to improve your knife was spot on. Thanks again, and if you want to send a free knife that would cool.(not the reason I wrote the comment by the way.)

Number 1 question: is a sharpening system such as a guided one worth it. I bought one for $450 from the US recently but haven't tested it. If it's not worth it I could sell it on. 2: by adding oil to a Micarta scale are you not attracting dirt etc? Or is that the opposite over time...like the oil clogs the pores?
@aldor9357

Basically in 99 out of 100 times you can just use a strop and call it a day

Stropping is massively overrated. As per Murray Carter you are basically sacrifcing sharpness for smoothness. Not that stropping doesn't have a place but an over stropped edge has basically no aggression or bite. For most knives you should do very minimal stropping to just remove any burr.

Goodn info boys. Question; What would be a less expensive stone sharpening system suggestion?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 6 лет назад
You can achieve very good results with a fallkniven DC4, a leather strop and some good compound. For around $100,- you would be done. It’ll look less nice though and the results wont be as keen although it will still make your kife hair popping sharp
@stefan-D
@stefan-D 6 лет назад
do you mean with V-Edge the secondary Bevel on Mora Garberg or Tops BOB CM154? What can i do, if i dont have expensive Waterstones and somethingelse to remove that?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 6 лет назад
yes, You can get rid of it using any sharpening stone like a fallkniven DC4 in combinaion with a strop.

Use a little oil and try to dry your blade if it gets wet. Then you won't need a patina. Unless you like the look of it.

@stefan-D 6 лет назад
thanks. so you remove on every knive the secondary V Edge? So why do the factory it on it?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 6 лет назад
hey stefan, we do indeed. A v edge is the quickest way to put on a sharp edge saving money for the factories. It's also more fool proof making it look like the knife has better edge retention but greatly lowering the cutting capabilities
@PaulK390S90V
@PaulK390S90V 6 лет назад
Hey when you guys do the convex edge are you doing the actual convex on your backstroke ? So as your coming back away from the edge you roll it down a tiny bit??? Oh and one other thing I have a 2 sided strop and a new rolled buffalo strop from burrfection I told you about. I have flexcut gold on one side which if you have never tried it you HAVE to. It has different particle sizes from .3m to 6micron and it cuts great and also polishes great at the same time. The I have the bark river white on the other side, and then a .5m diamond spray on my new buffalo strop for final step. Anyways should I get bark river black to replace the flexcut gold? I know the black is a 3000 grit but my finishing stone is a 8k naniwa specialty super stone so wouldn't it make sense to only progress to a higher grit strop after? Have you guys ever tried flexcut gold?? I wish you would. Anyways should I get BR black or what? I guess it would be good if I have a edge that's a little beat and it would bring it back quicker and then move on to the other strops. What do you guys think? Nice dance moves btw
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 6 лет назад
Thanks a lot paul! The convex is made in both motions. As no one would be able to hold the knife in exaclty the same angle with going back and forth you’ll get a natural convex. We have never tried flexgold but it sounds interesting. After 8k you just go to white compound. I found that after 5k the 3k black compound can still be beneficial as it is not as aggressive as a stone it can still make the edge nicer (not sharper, unless you have burr on it) after black go to white and it’l be much sharper. After 8k though I never go to black before white. Ive talked to burrfection and he’s a cool guy and his prices are amazing as well.
@PaulK390S90V
@PaulK390S90V 6 лет назад
Dutch Bushcraft Knives Ok cool! So as long as I do the back and forth motion I will have a convex. Your def right I just looked at a couple knives I have done free hand and there is certainly a convex. I have the kme sharpener too and I just ordered their convex rod! It has a 5° curve so you can put a convex on any knife you sharpen on it. I really enjoy free hand but when I have a 300$ folder I don't yet trust myself to have the perfect equal bevels and whatnot so its nice to have the kme, it really is the nicest clamped system out there. I have up to 10k chosera for the kme and then I go to the kme strops tat finish with .1micron ! I get the best edges. But now they can be convexed! Anyways just got my buffalo strop from burrfection and I went and got the shapton 120 for my coarsest stone after Maarten suggested it so I'm going to go to post office now to pick them both up! And then I get to try out my naniwa 8k specialty ss that I got yesterday. Going to sharpen my new spyderco santoku knife! Wish me luck

So with something like the Mora Garberg that comes with a scandi grind are you changing that to a convex grind? And if you are are you actually changing it on a stone or is just the amount of stripping done causing the shine
