Here I analyze the legacy of Disney's remake of Aladdin! This film is arguably more of the forgotten films to make a billion dollars, which somewhat adds to the intrigue! Give me your thoughts on the movie down below!

I decided to give Disney one last chance with the live action remakes and spent $2 to see this on a weekend afternoon at the second run theater. I find it funny we were all worried about Will Smith as Genie but instead they fumbled casting Aladdin and Jafar. I haven't bothered with any of them since.

Yeah I also found the Will Smith/Jafar pretty funny while researching the video. One was literally nicknamed “Hot Jafar” while the other was heavily trashed for the CGI yet the actual reception of the performances could not have been more opposite 😂

Hi, I really liked your video. My personal opinion on the 2019 Aladdin remake is that I just kinda think it’s mid. It’s not super great. If I had to pick between the live action remake of Aladdin Versus the original animated film. I’d pick the animated one. Every time the live action version is airing on Freeform I just skip it. I watched a video by Lindsey Ellis about how robin Williams didn’t want Disney to use the genie for merchandise purposes. But Disney ignored him and use the genie for marketing and merchandise purposes anyway.(I’d recommend it if you are interested in Disneys history with robin williams.)I do agree that the live action adaptation is mediocre. Honestly the film didn’t age poorly but it feels like it remained the same since its theatrical release. I also watched your Pixar sequel ranking. I’m glad you mentioned Schafrillas productions. His videos are really interesting and also very funny. I was expecting more views and comments from the video and your channel is surprisingly underrated. I’m looking forward to more of your content in the future! I hope the next installment in the five years later series will even better than the last!

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Keep in mind though, I don't think the original animated Aladdin is a profoundly great film or anything. I just think it's an entertaining bit of fluff. And this remake is also an entertaining bit of fluff. Each has things that it does better than the other. Personally, I think the character arc that the 1992 Aladdin had was really boring. He keeps worrying that Jasmine won't like him if she finds out who he really when we all know that's not true. It's just...yawn. I thought the 2019 movie having him be corrupted by power was a bit more interesting and the scene where he reneges on his promise to free the genie was much more compelling. ("You'd rather lie to somebody you love than give all of this up... The more you gain by pretending, the less you're actually gonna have."

Interesting, would you consider this remake better than the original Aladdin, or do you still like the original more?

@@DonJames268 I think they're equal, objectively speaking. The older movie has better action scenes and more consistently great staging of musical numbers (though some of the staging in the newer one is pretty great.) I also enjoy the characters of Abu, the carpet and the sultan more in the older movie. And I do love me some hand-drawn animation! But on the other hand, I find the characters of Aladdin, Jasmine and the genie, as well as their relationships, more interesting in the newer one. I feel like the romantic scenes in the older Aladdin are...well, they're not bad but they're the parts you have to sit through to get to the comedy and adventure that are the movie's real appeal. I find the ones in the newer movie more fun. And I like the way the 2019 genie starts out with a condescending, resentful attitude towards Aladdin and then comes to genuinely care for him. And I really enjoy the new character of Dalia. She's fun.
