I never saw one of these at stores when i was a kid. The only thing i heard was that they are prone to overheating. I cannot confirm this.

Realize that it was 1977 ! The hardware of this console seems really advanced, in my opinion. PS: 2:16 The “hello” loop was also my first coding experience (on Amstrad CPC)

There was a Bally Midway cabinet arcade PC board inside the Astrocade. That's why they were so prone to overheating when placed on a carpet. As far as hardware, the Astrocade was leaps and bounds ahead of its competition.

a cool look at a much-overlooked system! I remember playing it for years in the corner of a Montgomery Wards store, I think at some point they just forgot to take down the display. but the controller had its advantages.

Nope, nearly all of them are commercial games.
