Clip from my 50 Cent interview on Eminem vs Tupac. Watch my new 50 Cent interview here: y2u.be/K0c1cHxbhaA
In this clip from my new 50 Cent interview, 50 Cent compares Eminem via Cleaning Out My Closet, and Tupac, via Dear Mama, as artists and the perspectives they offered between White America and Black America.
To paraphrase 50's point: with Eminem's mom, drug usage was a part of her experience, and with Tupac's mom, drug usage was a part of her experience too. But the tones of anger are where the differences between them are. Whereas Eminem's anger is over how things should've been, versus Tupac, it was a term of endearment, accepting things as they are, represents the White American perspective vs Black American perspective.

To Em his mom was always like that, he dealt with it his whole life. To Tupac it was just a dark time in her life that she eventually got out of. Two similar situations but very different at the same time.

Tupac's mom was dealing with drugs since the 80s. She didn't even know Tupac was a rap star until the late 90s, when he would be shot down soon after. They're experiences we're similar, not the same, but they both took their pain in a different way. Pac just grew up faster. Not that big of a deal in the long run, cuz Eminem understands now.

@Devin_Haney
@Devin_Haney Год назад
Did Eminem die from starvation or something? Because last time I checked he's still alive, which would mean that his mother fed him everyday.. So why didn't he rap about his mom fixing him a "hotplate" (moms spegetti) or all the other positive things she did for him..? You know why? Because of the psychology is different (which is what 50 is talking about).. and how do you know Tupacs mom ain't say sh*t that was way worse than that? She was a f*cking crackhead bro.. So I know for a fact she was saying foul shi*t.. "when I was younger me and my mama had beef 17 years old kicked out in the streets" .. He would've got into details and went off on her if he had the same psychology as Eminem. Not to mention, "the plan is to show you that I understand" .. So the song was about understanding his mothers perspective (which again, shows the difference in phycology and why the lyrics are different).. When it comes to Eminems song, there isn't the same level of understanding.. Even though his mom was 15yo when she got married to his 22yo dad, got pregnant when she was 18 and was abandoned by him shortly after he was born. As a matter of fact, even Eminem took back all that privileged white kid BS he said, came back to his senses and mad a song similar to Tupacs (with understanding).. ru-vid.comko7t_Fe605Q

Ems mom raised him in that though, he went through hell from birth probably, terrible childhood and it continues into adulthood to where he finally makes it and becomes successful and the toxic environment spills over to where he gets sued, that's where the anger stems from. Tupac, on the other hand, his mom was very powerful, educated, member of the black Panthers, strong and raised him well, you can see it in his younger videos he was very respectful, well mannered, now somewhere along the line maybe she got caught up in the drugs and had a rough spot in life, but she got clean and was still supportive, that explains the difference in tone and how he portrays her, even though you were a crack fiend momma, you were always a black queen momma. You can't just say you have two rappers, both parents did drugs, one rapped in anger and one rapped with compassion without context.

I, 110% Feel this as my Mother (RIP) was also addicted to drugs, and in turn, made my life very hard.. From the things she was supposed to teach me, but didn't (or couldn't), to some of the things no child should ever have to experiance, being my daily life. I feel both of those Mens' sentiments.. As I have been in the Hatred/Anger spot Eminem was coming from, at an early age, but some-how I grew out of that into more of a Pac's mindset.. Where, yeah it was bad.. But I know 100% she loved me and tried her best, while being wounded and hurt herself. And I'd like to think I turned out pretty well, all things considered. I'm not in Jail/Prison/Dead, and I'm not following my Mothers' path, and I have a Job. I could be a bit happier, but.. One step at a time.

To me, the outlook on life is what made the difference to me. Eminem, to white people is "trailer trash" he didn't grow up in the suburbs with the white picket fence. So there is some resentment there towards his mother not bringing the lifestyle that he "should" of had. (I'm white so I may be wrong/ignorant to some things) With Pac, he was in the ghetto. Which to Pac would of been easier to accept, since majority of his peers would of grown up with the same situation as he did. So to Pac, his mother's drug usage could of been seen as a way to cope with their situation. But with Eminem, his mother's drug addiction could of been seen as the cause for their situation.

It's hard to compare them. Eminem came from a different background and had a different target audience. Eminem appealed more to edgy kids that enjoyed shock value. Tupac Shakur is a legend but lyrically he was not considered very good. That was not who he was in Hip Hop. He was a poet and a revolutionary, but wordplay, technical ability, metaphors and such were not. Eminem has far more skill and technical ability, and at his peak his lyrical ability was unmatched, but after a few years he fell off. Eminem deserves massive respect for his talent and for the many ways that he changed the game, but Tupac is the better artist overall in my opinion.

"Black men honor *their mom?" So do non black men not honor their mothers? Didn't know honoring your drug addict neglectful & abusive mothers was strictly a black thing. Good to know. Now let's take this knowledge & compare it to how these black men grow up to commit a disproportionate amount of crime as well as statistically abandon their children to be raised by these wonderful mothers at a higher rate than any other racial group. Perhaps there should be more criticism of these failed mothers as opposed to unearned "honoring." You don't honor someone just because you came out of them. You honor them if they did/are doing an honorable job of raising you. Blind devotion to someone that has failed you does nothing positive for you, your mother, or society at large. Do not honor someone that does not honor you. (Keep in mind I am not saying you personally, I am referring to people who's mothers failed them yet choose to still "honor" them.)
