Thats pretty cool. You could throw your winch cable over a tree branch and take it off with that too.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing! My brother-in-law and I built a similar loading device for his equipment hauler, although it was a roller configuration with a hydraulic winch. I've been looking to do a similar conversion on my Bri-Mar dump trailer. A few questions for you if you have a minute to answer... 1. do the three bolts on the bottom of the main arch actually go into the tube, or do they act more as a set bolt? 2. How do you like the electric winch? Like I said, we used a hydraulic winch for my brother-in-law, because we were concerned with duty cycle. As someone who has used an electric one quite a bit, I'd be curious what you think. 3. What battery charger did you go with? I'm thinking of using my honda suitcase generator and a batter charger as opposed to running a line to my truck. Looks like a lot of cool stuff on your page, so I've subscribed. Keep up the good work!
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
Hey there Aaron, 1. The three bolts are simply set bolts to keep the arch in the custom c-channel pockets so it is easily removable 2. The electric winch has worked great for me especially considering I found it at the dump 😂 it will definitely heat up a bit after continued use but I’ve found that when winching on big gnarly logs there’s usually several minutes of down time within each pull anyway to adjust and manipulate the log where it can cool down. 3. The battery charger is a nico I believe and was on the trailer from the factory, I never plug it in due to where I park the trailer. I also use a solar panel to keep it topped off at all times and when doing a lot of pulling I hook it up to my trucks two interstate batteries using 0 gauge cable and leave the truck running. Thanks for the kind words and the sub!

Morning Jake. Watching you talking about your escapades with the various log arches, you installed, an old saying comes up. “ If you don’t succeed, try, try and try again!” Looks good👍

Hey there Al, yes failure was not an option! Plus since there aren’t many trailers like this out there it took a couple tries to work out the kinks!

I tried a wireless controller on my car trailer, it was a piece of junk. It had a delay on the button press and it was very finicky on where you were standing and holding the remote. It quit working pretty quickly and I haven't bothered with another. I would recommend heavily researching the options out there before purchasing one. Enjoy your vids, have a good one.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
Thanks Brennan, I’ve had the controller for quite some time, I’m guessing by the sounds of it that it’s very similar to yours. I couldn’t find many good aftermarket options that looked to be of decent build quality. Maybe I’ll just save the time and hassle of installation 😂 Thanks for watching!

That's a sweet trailer and looks like it is now built to handle anything you can throw at it. Do you have any idea how much it weighs empty, now that you have it all "gussied up"?
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
Thanks Phil! I haven’t run it over a scale yet with the new arch but the last version I had including brace legs it came in at about 4K lbs. the new arch is beefier so I’m guessing around 4,200lbs

As popular as the dump trailers have become everyone should be watching this!, I think you have done one hell of a job customizing your dump trailer!, good job!.I had 1 ton dump I sold it cause of its age and I'm now thinking a dump trailer would be better to replace the truck!. 3 1/2 ton was a load and I bet you can haul more with the dump trailer!. Good video, have a good day!.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
I would have to agree Steve! Share it with the world! The dump trailer is great, I don’t have much of a need for a purpose built dump truck as of yet, the trailer offers lots of flexibility.

I am curious about what size truck/trans/rear end size you are using to haul this trailer loaded. Wondering if you have any pucker moments when you are needing to stop unexpectedly. Thanks in advance.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 2 года назад
Back when I made this video I was towing it with my pickup. It’s a 2008 F-250 with the 6.4 powerstroke and 3.55 rear end. I had upgraded my rear leaf springs to f-350 as well as added in rear air bags. The truck is chipped and deleted (with various tunes depending what I’m doing) as well as full exhaust with up and down pipes. I have drilled and slotted rotors to help with the stopping. The truck tows and more importantly stops the trailer no problem. Definitely had a few pucker moments on the highway but mostly from idiotic drivers being a**holes! Now When towing heavy I use my International 4700, not as fast but it’ll pull down a house and the big truck brakes are nice too!

Just a thought if you needed to take the arch off and all you had was your tractor could you back your tractor in the trailer and pick the arch up then drive off the trailer
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
That’s a very good point, I hadn’t thought of doing that! I still think the arch would be too tall, the extra height it requires to clear the c-channel stake pockets is what becomes the issue...thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. Maybe I missed it, but how high above the deck is the highest point of the arch?
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 2 года назад
The lifting point is just above 8’ off the deck of the trailer. Trailer deck height sits around 29” about 10’ 8” total.

Most excellent video, well done. If and when I obtain a tandem axle trailer , I'll most definitely utilize many of of those lig arch ideas. I am beetung the cost of materials has doubled since you built this. Since the trailer has hydraulics already I will use a hydraulic winch. But other than that , Outstanding setup.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY Год назад
I’m sure material cost has gotten quite expensive. The reason I didn’t go with a hydraulic winch was because the pump for the dump trailer wasn’t powerful enough to adequately supply the needs of a hydraulic winch. Also, the hydraulic reservoir was far too small on the trailer to meet the needs of the winch.

I was going to build my arch on a dump like that with 2" square .250 . Already bought the metal so I hope it works ok. I'm going to pivot it at the rear so I can lay it down when not in use.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
My 2” x .25 arch worked well...until it didn’t. I found after repeated loading of large logs (6-8,000lbs) it slowly bent and eventually failed. The pivoting style definitely puts much less stress on the arch itself but your two pivot points (and trailer) need to be extremely beefy and stout to support all of that force/weight. I use the trailer for much much more than just winching logs so having an arch laying down in the bed simply wasn’t an option and being that it’s fixed I was able to spread out the weight/force among 4 legs instead of just two and it’s 100% removable! Good luck with your build!!!

Thanks for doing a walk around on that trailer. What kind of winch izs mounted on it? Mine is 10 thousand pounds with a remote also. Still have not gotten to put it to work. Yet.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
It’s a cheap 10k lb Champion winch I had laying around, I would like a larger winch on there at some point, in the 12-18k range. Mostly to increase the duty cycle. Thanks for watching!
@bradh74

Maybe you could remove the arch if you dump/lift the trailer all the way at an angle? Nice job at any rate. Or a tree and winch lol.

I have a 2 tonne tipper that I fitted a 1 tonne swivel hoist on that is controlled via a remote control winch. A few times I have attempted to lift things that are a tad too heavy and I've been considering a log arch and this video has me considering it more seriously now.
@DudeRanchDIY
@DudeRanchDIY 3 года назад
The arch works really well, quick and easy to load logs as long as you can get the trailer right to the log or can skid the logs to the trailer.
@edjackson8425
@edjackson8425 3 года назад
Beautiful trailer design. You obviously put a lot of thought in it. The stabilizer legs are also used if you disconnect the trailer and leave it for someone to fill. So it won’t tip up if they put a lot of weight in the rear.
