Try charcoal pads to remove the odor. Also, a mixture of cleaning vinegar, alcohol and water in a spray bottle works well to neutralize strong odors, even cigarette smoke.

There is a product at Sam's Club called O-dor Ban. It is approx. $10 per gallon. It is a concentrate, and you mix it. Wonderful product. It would last you 2-3 years.

Hi Josh and Hayley, nice finds at your extended yard sales. Try putting 2 tablespoons of baking soda into each shoe and leave it overnight to remove the odors then vacuum the baking soda from the shoes, no washing needed, baking soda also helps to remove stains. Ive dealt with alot of smelly books & stink from cigarettes. Set a plastic tote up( for shoes a under bed one might work) get a big bag of baking soda at walmart in the swimming pool chemical section. Pour baking soda in bottom of tote & set shoes in it, seal the tote & leave for a few days. With items you dont want touching the baking soda just use anything to elevate it. Let your baking soda air inbetween use so you can use it multiple times.

For the odor of the shoes, I suggest you get an ozone machine and leave them in big box or container with it. It works great for removing any and all odors and will leave them with just a neutral smell. Something worth looking at.

In my experience, usually when sneakers smell like weed, they're real. I once found stems in some foams and they reeked. I put a few drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball and let them sit inside the shoes for a while.

I use cheap vodka in a spray bottle on material. For porous items that can’t take much or any moisture I use a large plastic tote w a lid, lay in a baker’s cooling rack about a quarter to a half inch layer of baking soda at the bottom. I put the cooling rack in so no items get crusty w baking soda. I’ve also used laundry scent boosting crystals before too. I had a massage chair I purchased, but it was dropped off for me. It wreaked of cigarette smoke. I tied it in a yard waste bag with potpourri poured in the bottom of the bag. I’d check on it periodically, but I left it in there for months. I finally took it out of the bag and let the chair sit to air out. But even w the leather wrapped foam cushions, it had no odors. Not even the potpourri smell stayed.

I have a trick! So I had a few shoes I bought "new" that I did not realize smelled like smoked until I got into my vehicle after loading them up and ran an errand. I was disappointed thinking that may hurt the value but.... I cleaned as normal (oxy clean detergent, dishwashing liquid & water solution) with microfiber rag, then I stuffed each shoe with one dryer sheet. My wife had the genius idea to leave them out on our patio so they can get a little sun (about 2 hours). Smell went away completely! Now they smell fresh....not as strong as the dryer sheet but enough to not raise any concern. :-) Hope this helps!

A tip for getting rid of the odur on the shoes, freeze them. Honestly works a treat, chuck them in an airtight bag and freeze them for 48hrs, bacteria breeds in warm places and that is what is causing the smell. Love watching you and your wife x

Tip on how to get rid of the "green" smell of shoes: Ask for access at sports shop with an ozone machine used for disinfecting and getting rid of foul smells in athletic gear, they will usually ozone shoes for a few bucks. Heck, if it gets rid of the stench in hockey gear, it will make the shoes smell like new. Or simply buy a product called "Comfosan" which removes smells, bacteria and fungi. It works wonders! I tried everything to get the unbearable stench out of my daughters figure skaters... Nothing worked until I tried this product. (We have no acces to a ozone closet here) I hope this product is available in the US. Kind regards from Germany!

We bought several duffle bags filled with new & used sports gear, couple totes of sports sneakers, coats etc from a storage auction. Great buy BUT once we got everything out, it spelled of cigarette smoke. We found the only thing that worked for the shoes was to use a large tote, fill with 2-3 bags of baking soda, add a box of carpet fresh powder, (the extra strength pet odor scent). Mix well in a separate bucket or pail. Remove shoe laces & wash in “unstoppables” laundry beads. Open up the shoes and cover them in the soda mixture in the larger tote. Put the lid on & leave them for about a week. If you have sunshiny days, leave the covered tote in the sun for a few hours each day. Once you’re happy with their smell, shake off, brush residual powder off add the laces. It worked on cigarette smoke smell, probably will for “green” odor too. For washable shoes, soak in Ariel detergent,& oxyclean for a couple hours, wash in Ariel & unstoppable bead’s, air dry. For washing smoky clothing, unstoppables works great.. If need be add a 1/2 cup of white vinegar the second time around. 👍 love your videos, you two are sweet. Blessings☺️

To get the green out, you febreeze em throw a dryer sheet in and set out in the sun for about an hour, once dried, take the dryer sheet out and set them in the freezer for an hour The smell will be gone.

They make these charcoal bags. They absorb smells and you can recharge them in the sun . Wife got me some a few Christmases ago and they are still working great

A tip for odors. Cut an apple in quarters and slip a piece in each shoe. Apples absorb odors and bacteria. It took out the mildew odor when my husband drove our truck into a river. Was accidentally. LOL. Good luck on getting that smell out of the shoes. I hope it helps.

Hi Tornado, can I give you this tip? Baking soda is ideal for removing the bad smell of marijuana from carpets, clothes, or sneakers. To do this you must make your own spray with a sprayer, just as you do with your plants. Once you have it, sprinkle baking soda on all the carpets, clothes or sneakers. Leave them for 24 hours, then just remove the solution with a high-powered vacuum.

Our life saver on sneaks when our students couldn't afford anything else was Febreeze Yes I agree the sun makes a huge difference. I think a combination of methods mentioned will work. We had no way to launder them, but we did our best.

I've gotten different smells out of stuff by closing it up in a bin with crumpled up newspaper. Works like a charm!

Hi guys I did the baking soda in a ziploc bag so I didn’t have to clean it out. just left it open in the bag over night to get really bad cigarette smell out. Next day no smell it worked great!

I did accounting for meals on wheels in California, years ago. It can be very helpful for many Seniors.

Hi mate if you get some febreeze fabric refresher spray and spray the shoes all over and inside then leave them outside all day the smell of weed/smoke will disappear, I do it regularly as I re-sell a lot of air max online, btw the teal blue pair are air max 95s

You can use coffee grounds to help remove odor. Just get the cheap stuff and put it in a closed container with the shoes for a while

I use norwex odor eliminator by Norwex on every shoe. It uses enzymes to break down the organic material causing the smell. One spray and they way better. If they really need help I will soak the insoles and shoes in laundry detergent and the concentrated odor eliminator! Love that stuff!

Definitely invest in an ozone machine. Cheap investment on Amazon, and I've taken all different smells out of sneakers, clothes and comics. My daughter's softball cleats smelled like a dumpster on a hot day after a tournament in the rain....into the ozone chamber and the foul stench was gone.

I have had really good luck with vodka (I know it is weird)!! You fill a spray bottle with the cheapest vodka you can find and spray Items that have an odor. I have NOT tried it on shoes however, so I would do a test on the the shoe first. Then I put the items outside in the fresh air. It works most of the time for me. I hope you find a solution that works for you!! As always, great video!

I hope someone else hasn’t already said this but Vodka works like a charm on odors. I buy the cheapest kind and put some in a spray bottle. I’ve sprayed inside shoes, wooden furniture (drawers and chests) and all kinds of fabric. It’s pretty amazing how well this dissipates foul smells! I hope this helps!

Activate charcoal is great at absorbing smells. You can get it at pet shops. It’s used for fish tanks. Make pouches with pieces of cheap pantyhose and put them in each shoe. You can reuse them forever for future smelly shoes!

An ozone generator will do the trick. I have "de-stinked" suede boots that reeked of cigarette smoke with one. Around here, many sales have a strong cigarette smoke smell which isn't immediately evident when looking at an outdoor sale with a breeze. And happy belated birthday, Mose!

One more odor eliminatory idea I have used many times with success is an essential oil called Purification by Young Living. No, I do not sell it, but I purchased a tiny sample bottle on Ebay. Put a few drops on cotton balls with shoes and put them inside a covered plastic bin. The oil itself smells good, too.

Hello, for the smell get some Sea Breeze or Clean and Clear(it is an astringent) put it in a spray bottle and spray the inside of the shoes. I find that it is also remove the smoke smell from most clothes and even your hair.

I put the smelly sneakers in a bin with the top on with an ozone generator for 30 minutes. They come out smelling like nothing. 👍 The ozone generator was a great buy!

That new(maybe to me lol) Fabreze odor eliminator took the smoke smell from a fire out of my son's Nikes. His house caught fire(everyone ok) we found some clothes and a couple pair that it worked with. I did try vinegar 1st though.

When you done cleaning of trying to wipe down the odor of the sneaker, you should put sneaker balls in the shoe to make the shoe smell better. Bought shoes a month back and when I got them they had sneaker balls in the shoe and they got to me smelling really good. Sneaker balls are a game changer, you should try it out

Try the moisture catcher and put an dryer sheets in the shoes, that seems to work hopefully.

Put the shoes in a box/tube with several open boxes of baking soda. Close the lid and give it about 4 to 5 days

Go ahead and by the gallon jug and a spray bottle because you will use it a lot! AND the yard sale finds were awesome...Keep up the good work!

The green smell is the best kind of smell IMO lol, great pickups as always Josh! The green smell will go away pretty easily with some basic cleaning. It's not like nasty cigarette smoke lol. 😄

I think you would benefit from buying an ozone machine! They are used to take smell out and they work REALLY well. I have used one for years, purchased on Amazon.

If you want to get rid of the smell on anything get a ozone generator machine and put in a sealed container with all the items you want the smell out and after a couple hours the smell will be gone.

When I resell shoes I usually clean them inside with dryer sheet to get hair, pet fur out. Then I use shoe deodorant spray! The one I have been using is believe or not is one by Avon! It works well for me!

I've done the dryer sheets, right now I'm using Zote soap watered down to remove smells. Working on the "import" smell on clothing that is filling my house.

I was at the bins and picked up a pair of men's Merrell hiking shoes. While I was sorting through all of my stuff I kept smelling pee. I couldn't pin down where it was coming from. My friend and I were packing up into her trunk and she noticed it. Turns out it was the Merrells. Had to leave them in the cart. She said it smelled like cat pee and I knew there was no overcoming that smell. Upside...I sold a pair of Tory Burch sandals from that haul for $50 so they paid for my entire bins trip. :)

I use "Natures Miracle" found at pet stores to neutralize odors. Works great on any fabric or insole.

You might look into an ozone machine - it will take the smell out in a few hours. You will need to put it in a room you can seal off. These machines work a miracle on mold and smells.

We have a small ozone machine and it helps with all sorts of smells, even the colorful green smells. 😉

I bought a storage unit online and the entire contents smelled very "green" took me so much time to get the smell out of anything porous. It ultimately was still worth it.

You can also put tea bags in the shoes with news paper. That usually takes smells out of my boys’ shoes.

Washing the suede sneakers may cause the colors to run. Try lightly sanding them with a very fine grit sandpaper or sandpaper block.

You can try setting the shoes out in the sun for a couple of days. That should help. Good luck!

A real good idea is to spritz them with water and a small amount of fabric softener and put them in the sun to dry out!

I’ve learned that covering the shoes in a mixture of baking soda/ powdered oxi clean for a few days works. Also I think those silver 97’s that yall passed would have been a quick sell!

I'm late to this thread-been a busy few weeks (thankfully!) but I have encountered this "green smell" too often here lately at work...I have found that Fabreeze gets it out of the air....supposedly it works by encapsulating the molecule of the smell and neutralizing it...sounds like a Hayley thing...lol...I never could grasp chemistry or biology but I don't have to understand it to know it works! Maybe it will help with the shoes...

Try bicarbonate soda. Sprinkle a good amount inside shoes and leave for a day or two than vacuum them out 👍

I have a free tip for you when you are out and you guys buy video games that have stickers on them from like Goodwill and salvation army and whatever thrift stores you guys go to free tip I used to work at a pawn shop and we used to spray a little bit of zipple lighter fluid or generic later fluid on it to loosen the goo and then scrape it off and it does not ruin anything and it comes out perfect clean

Wait a few hours, preferably overnight. The baking soda will kill odor-causing bacteria and absorb odors. Extra-stinky shoes may require 24 hours. Over a trashcan or the sink, tap the shoe to remove the remaining baking soda from the inside.
