Maradona's second goal against England in the 1986 World Cup was without a doubt the greatest goal in World Cup history. Receiving the ball on his own field near midfield, Maradona marched towards the English goal leaving in his wake English player after English player after English player (five in total) completely destroying them to finish by sweetly dribbling past the oh-so-great English goalkeeper Shilton and softly depositing the ball in the back of the net! Absolute genius!
Thanks for the comment Dino, unfortunately, my English-English lacks in depth so I am unable to really appreciate your words. If you could please "translate" to American-English it will be appreciated. Thanks again!
@@hocinimahmoud6682 Thank you for your reply. If, like you said, "no one have seen it" how do you know then that Pelé scored the same goal against México in the World Cup in 1962? It does not make sense.
Carlos Alberto's goal was a masterpiece of individual and team skill. But it was already 3-1 for Brazil with just a few minutes left. The Italians were thoroughly beaten, plus they must have been physically and emotionally exhausted from the epic heavyweight overtime slugfest they had just had in the semis against West Germany. Just look at how Pele had tons of space to receive the ball and make his pass. Bergkamp, on the other hand, scored his goal in the last minute of what was at that point an unbelievably tense 1-1 draw against a great Argentina team that had the upper hand. To this day I can't imagine playing 90 minutes against Argentina and still producing that first touch. So I would rank them - Maradona, Bergkamp, Alberto.
thats their fault brazil 70 the best end of 1982 brazil most spectacular most artistic ,most magnificent ,and flamboyant collection of goals by any national team ever
Compared to nowadays they of course had lots of space. But nevertheless this goal is also my favourit. A goal like being planned on a drawing board. Great setup, then an assist by Pelé like on a silver plate and finally the perfect strike by Carlos Alberto with a shooting technique from a textbook. I guess this has been broadcast before the 2014 World Cup. Otherwise it would, maybe should have included van Persies header against Spain, Goetzes Goal against Argentina and of course Rodriguez' volley against Uruguay.
You can say the same of the tackling of the English players. Nowadays, Maradona would have been on the ground before he even got close to the penalty area. It was almost like the English players were saying, go on, don't mind us, we are just going to pretend we are defending. Next time, use your hands or sniff some coca.
Guys I just realized something very important watching this video. I am an Argentinian supporter and 98 WC was the first one I watched. Though I didn't understand football that much back then but have to say that Owen's goal was just frighteningly good. I think if he wasn't that injury prone he would be considered greatest English footballer of all time ❤❤
Totally agrre...............that goal was awesome................there`s only one word that describes Belanovs goal................." BAM "................😁
6:06 I already know that the number one goal is Maradona 86 against England and even as an Englishman how a short ass like Maradona managed to out jump Shilton to score was amazing simply magical and his second goal wasn’t too bad either!
That one journalist saying 1970 was a great time to be a boy brought me to tears! I was 11 then and there were so many fantastic legends to idolize. Such good memories
Di María's goal in 2022 WC Final made this video age badly. Easily better than Carlos Alberto's goal. Hellishly fast and precise, lots of one touch passes, in the WC Final, against the reigning Champ. Also, where is Robin Van Persie's magic flying header? There are at least 10 goals lesser than that one in this list.
“Maradona, turns like a little eel. He comes away from trouble, little squat man, comes inside Butcher and leaves him for dead, outside Fenwick and leaves him for dead, and puts the ball away. And that is why Maradona is the greatest player in the world.” - Bryon Butler
A moment please for the always eloquent commentary of Peter Brackley, who elevated C4's Italy coverage throughout the 90s and much more besides. Deserves to be in the pantheon of commentators, and I feel is overlooked.
Love seeing these old goals. Brings back a lot of memories (Negrete in 1986, Bergkamp in 98, Frings in 2006, etc) I'm pretty sure this program was produced before the 2014 World Cup, which had a lot of nice goals as well (Cahill, Persie, Rodriguez, etc).
The thing about the Brazilian goal that makes it deserve the number one spot is the fact that it literally had everything you could ever want to see in football
41:36 I thought Maradona’s goal would be number one but earlier watching a video about Maradona I noticed something about that goal I never noticed in 38yrs is the bit of skill when he first gets the ball he just spins taking the ball with him beats two players and the starts his run simply magical
Both Ronaldinho and Rivaldo goals from that game deserve it honestly. Importance and how brilliant they were... i guess the English are still a little sore lol.
@@maxgonzalez214 they were good enough to be remembered as the outstanding most entertaining team 44 years later were the winners outside their own fans by the rest of the footballing world are by and large largely forgotten ,not unlike the dutch team of the 74 World Cup ,just before the final in 1982 cruff was being interviewed and Cruff said Brazil were the best team of the 1982 world cup tournament before its on youtube ,go look it up , pep guardiiola on the Fifa website said that brazil team of 1982 was one of the best ever all the players were wonderful eder ,zico ,juniour if so many years later people still fondily rember thay team its because it was really special ,i doubt wether some World Cup winning sides are as fondly rembered as that team its a sign of a good team when its being talked about 20 ,30,40 years later ,thoes were the words of pep in a interview of ESPN Brasil ,who has more credibility you or pep Guardiola italy 1982 team is not spoken with any reverence ,fondness, passion as Brazil 1982 team are around the world .outside italy but Brazil 1982 team are go figure the spanish pappers after brazil elinination said the the life ,colour ,magic ,and artistry left the World Cup with Brazil elimination go figure
I went to the 1970 WC and saw every game Brazil played. Pele's header to the ground, Gerson's long balls and winning goal in the final, Rivelino's free kicks and dribbles, Tostao (the white Pele) involved in every play weaving here and there, Clodoaldo's domination of the midfield - they were tested before the WC and determined to be the lowest ranked on physical training! Gerson smoked, and hated to run. Tostao had just returned from injury. They dismissed their coach and just played for the love of it. Every one of these players was the best in his position in the world. Even players like Ademir Da Guia could not make the team. The goalie was the worst in the WC, so they determined to not allow any shots to go against him by keeping the ball to themselves. However, Piazza and Alberto were the greatest of defenders. The Brazilian league was the greatest league ever. Besides Maradona's goal (which was reproduced exactly by Messi in Barcelona's shirt), Didier Six' and Cambiasso' s goals were my favorite.
I think Maradona's goal is no.1, though the Carlos Alberto goal was awesome. A. Robben's goal against defending champion Spain in 2014, Ronaldinho's FK vs England, Di Maria's goal in E.T. vs Switzerland, Messi's goal at injury time vs Iran & beautiful control & finish vs Nigeria in 2018, David Luiz's FK in quarter final of 2014, J. Rodriguez's volly in 2014, Van Persi's flying header vs Spain could be on the list
Thanks for sharing all these wonderful goals. Everyone has his own list, but it doesnt matter. What matters is football and the bond it creates among fans from all over the world.
I feel you, man. As a Pole, I was absolutely sure there wouldn't be a single Polish goal included. I mean hey, we just finished third twice, not many teams can say that, but who cares, right? We always have to do more to be noticed. I think the selection is a crude mix of goals that you'd expect and that deserve to be on the list, goals apparently chosen mainly to include some exotic countries, goals that are only included to add more British goals (that Charlton goal, absolutely no one is trying to attack him or block his shot in any way or shape), and the #1 choice is a joke, I wouldn't even put it in my top 50 (I know it's kind of legendary, but I really mean it, I don't see anything special about it). In these two games alone we scored at least 3 or 4 better goals: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OjnpPQfJvig.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CIHP8NQX4Pc.html Or what are those two Bulgarian goals doing on this list? I think our goal against Italy in '74 was better than Letchkov's header: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OaDee0Y0RXc.html
@waso778 I remember them so well neeskens, cryuff, Johnny rep all fantastic players. But still won nothing. Euros 88 that's it Best in the world has to have a world Cup winners medal
@@philipcarthy2977 yes.. but even not winning can still be best team ever. It's about the style they played. For me club team Milan end 80th begin 90th are best club team. Yeah they won lol
Two very important things to remember i) the second goal came after he had cheated ii) It was still brilliant. Should it be first? You're not getting that vote by British broadcasters on British TV. It will never happen...and I don't blame them.
No 28 Eder, was famous for his powerful shot-he was called the canon,he made Alan Rough go down as he faked to shoot low-no doubt the keeper knew about his power, then chipped him beautifully.Best football that I've ever seen Brazil 82.
OF COURSE.. YOU DIDN'T SEE BRAZIL IN '70, THE MOST POWERFUL FOOTBALL MACHINE IN HISTORY. WITH A BRAIN IN MIDFIELD THAT FEW TALK ABOUT... G E R S O N.. A BEAST DISHING OUT GAME
Faisal Al Dakil, Spain 1982, Negrete Mexico 1986; Socrates vs. Italy Spain 1982, there a lot of missed greatest goals, and others that never deserve to be here.
For me, Bergkamp's '98 goal versus Argentina is my #1 choice, because of the control from the De Boer pass. As great as the Carlos Alberto and Maradona goals are, they were much more technically precise. Because of the lack of "polish" on it, to me it suggests Bergkamp would mis-hit it. But the control was beautiful.
In fact, the more I think about it, I'd put Alberto's goal at #4, mostly because it was about how it was set up rather than how it was scored. Alberto didn't have to do as much as Maradona and Bergkamp did. I put the Arie Haan goal at #3, Maradona at #2, and Bergkamp #1. And Owairan's goal is in the top ten, but I can't figure out where after my top four.
Which one is more difficult to score? Bergkamp's or Maradona's? Come on. Going past half a team from midfield is million times more difficult and requires a lot more skill.
they left out another amazing part of Bergkamp's goal. Just before the pass was made, the Dutch announcer said (in Dutch), "I have a feeling we are going through to the semifinal" (the game was tied), then the pass flew, then Bergkamp made thost masterful touches, then the announcer had a Bergkamp orgasm: "Denis Berkamp! Denis Bergkamp!" again and again after the score. It's one of the greatest calls, if not the greatest call ever.
@@ScratchyBaws yes agreed 70s Brazil were amazing ,more balanced Roberto riverlino ,jairzhinho, midfeild mastro gerson, palo Cesar the incomparible pele, clodaldo ,carlos Alberto ,everaldo Antonio ,Brito ,piazza enough said
@@spendover too freely pehaps haters say thaey had a poor defence but when italy scored their third goal which shouldt even had counted as it didnt cross the line for a corner Brazil had 10 players in the box , it was a scuffed shot by marco tardelli ,that somehow found its way to Rossi who instinctively hit it juniour Brazil left back actually played him onside because had he had pushed up just a fraction he would have been offside
Caniggia scored the gol it tie the game 1-1 after Toto Schillasi put the 1-0 in the first half, checking the gol I believe Caniggia was slightly pushed from behind by the italian player but managed to head back and score this important goal.
Cannigia's goal came from inside the little box. Borgetti had no angle. No one saw that coming, specially with Maldini breathing on his neck. Jared's goal is by far superior.
Was looking for that one. Wasn’t sure the 2014 cup had happened bc Cahill and James were both not on the list. Surprised iniestas winner didn’t make the cut from 2006
I love how the English do everything possible to not recognize Maradona's goal as the best in history just because they were the ones who suffered it, in fact the two goals that Maradona scored in that match should be 1 and 2 in this ranking since the goal of the century is by far the best of all and because in the hand of God goal the deception that Maradona made was so brilliant that most people had to watch the replay several times to realize how Diego scored that goal.
All nice goals, but I find the entire list very biased towards long-distance shots. I can think of a few goals that I would prefer over many of these. No Götze WorldCup decider 2014 in the entire list?
Check out Romario of Brazil goals at USA 94 which helped Brazil win the world cup at USA 94. Most of this goals were at close range delivered with very high levels of skill that only Brazilians can produce.
I nominate Mario Goetze's goal against Argentina in extra time in the 2014 World Cup Final that gave Germany its first World Cup in South America. It was an amazing goal to end a spectacular run of wins by the German Team at the 2014 World Cup, not least of which was the dominant 7-1 defeat of Brazil in the semi-final match. I can still replay Goetze's goal in my mind, 10 years later!
Muy bello si pero como le fue al tipo después, hay algo con esos jugadores alemanes que acabaron con Argentina dos veces el de Italia 90 y este sr goetze mira como la a pasado el después de Brasil?
To me Maradona's goals in Mexico 1986 and USA 1994 where he left the tournament early. Who knows if he played on in 1994 Argentina might have won USA 94. But I am glad Brazil won. Another favourite of mine was Romario's goals at USA 94. Baggio goal in 1990. Some of Brazil's goal in Spain 1982. Hard to choose really so many fantastic goals in World Cups.
Thing with cheat is, it works both ways, what would you call the 1966 final against Germany with a goal that never actually entered the goal?@@rusanwolfa
Also, here's one I felt was left off the list (American and Belgian, despite the screen name, fyi). Brian McBride's opening goal for United States against Mexico in the round of 16 in 2002. United States wins a free kick in the Mexico half, quickly re-starts, Claudio Reyna avoids a tackle, goes towards the end line, and finally gives the ball up to Josh Wolff; Wolff one touches the ball to McBride, who's wide open, and goes from right to left, slightly lower in terms of aim. Beautiful goal for me, although I can see why it would get left off.
1982 Semifinal France v WGermany Klaus Fischer not in the 50? Have you even seen this? And by the way, Maradona's goal is the highlight of football forever. As a Brazilian Maradona has win the Cup 4 or 5 times.
I must admit being Dutch, the Bergkamp goal is a typical Dutch Masterpiece. He paints the mathematical long ball by Frank de Boer, on the canvas like a Rembrandt, Vermeer and van Gogh in three brushstrokes.
Maradona's goal was overshadowed by dishonestly winning a World Cup. If there was VAR in the past, Argentina would only have the 2022 World Cup. Injustice that England paid for also being champions with an irregular goal. So bow down to Brazil, Germany and Italy, as they are clean and deserving champions.
You'll have to update your list to include Argentina's fantastic team goal in the 2022 final: 5 passes, 4 of them one-timers, with MacAllister's tremendous run to assist di Maria.
Maradona's was the best player of all time...that goal shows you why.....it is the best WC goal ever. I am not even close to being Argentinian, but I know soccer/football
Eusebio, Pele , Cruyff, Beckenbauer, even Maradona said George Best was the greatest of all time, Both Ronaldos, Ronaldinho, Mueller, Moore , Dino Zoff , Zidane, could go on its all subjective
got to go deeper...he was the ONLY reason Napoli went from bottom to top in one of worlds best leagues and won 2 titles and EUFA Cup..he was ONLY reason Arg went to 2 WCups and won with best goal of century..sure there has been great players...and Maradona cant say himself is best ...he has to pick someone else...all young people think its messi but they have no clue about Maradona@@simoncampbell3144
Sorry to say but the Carlos Alberto goal was so much better with the old BBC commentary…. “They just take it in turns to give an exhibition….. now Pele, and here comes Carlos Alberto on the right… oh wow that was sheer delightful football!” …. That makes it the greatest goal of all time for me.
I'm at goal number 11... I guarantee you that Maradona v England 86 and Carlos Alberto 1970 will be one and two... I'm guessing Bergkamp v Argentina 2022 will be top 5
6:06 I already know that the number one goal is Maradona 86 against England and even as an Englishman how a short ass like Maradona managed to out jump Shilton to score was amazing simply magical and his second goal wasn’t too bad either!
