50's Classic Strat in Surf Green and celebrating the World Series win

Yo!! What's up, dudes?!? Just a quick blog about my beloved Red Sox winning the World Series. I'm sporting my other 50s Classic Strat, the one in Surf Green with the nice flame maple neck. I'm using TH2 and the same patch as last time ("Drive Your Cat Crazy"), which is based on the Randall T2 head set to "clean" and a couple of distortion pedals in front of it (within the software).
I'll be back soon with a longer review of the Strat. Have a great weekend!

This is how a 50's Surf Green should look!!! Maple neck. I hate Surf Green strats with Rosewood fretboards.

Lets get something straight... You're the man. I honestly love listening to you talk about guitars. You're just so passionate about them and it so great to see. 99% of the times that I try to watch a video that 5+ minutes long I lose focus, but I could watch your videos for hours, not to mention how talented you are. I have just bought a classic vibe 50s sunburst stratocaster, have you ever refinished a guitar, If so, how difficult would it be to refinish a sunburst guitar this colour ? Could you just spray on top of the original finish, Is it too dangerous a job for a novice to do ?. I don't like V-shaped necks so I could not buy this guitar as it was.

That's one guitar I am really wanting bad, and in that color too! Love the high gloss maple neck! Wish Fender would do the high gloss on all the maple necks.

TheOldOakSyndicate I thought that they did until I examined this American special that I had my eye on. I was kinda disappointed when I saw it was satin finish rather than gloss finish.

I'm thinking about buying my first strat and I'm definitely looking at the daphne blue classic 50s with the maple neck - I'm concerned about the fretboard radius being uncomfortable for bending or string choking - is this fixable?

Only way to tell is to get your hands on one and try iy out for yourself. I have a Tele with 7" radius board (alongside flat board Gibsons) and I can bend on it just fine. When in doubt get it to a good guitar tech for a decent setup.

Yeah I've had that a good few times personally too. I just stop playing, until I feel the need again, and its just as fun. If you force yourself to play, it might not be fun anymore

Will you do something on pick ups and the problems you can get with them not wired up right. I have a guitar that has a pick up not outputting sound all the time when flicked to all the time I'm thinking it could be the switch but could there be anything else that can could cause the same problem.

Thanks for the tip. I think it is Surf Green, but I'll try that just to make sure. It seems that the white balance on whatever takes the photo makes a big difference on how blue the finish appears.

Love your videos and great tone you get even with the Chibsons! I don't know if you made it to the parade in Boston or not, but if you aren't far from Providence RI, the trophy will be at the Convention Center on Wednesday November 20 from 3:00-7:00pm for a free viewing and people can get their pictures taken with it! I'll be bringing my daughter. She's 5 months old now and was watching the series with me and she loved it! I love that dirty water!!

I love mine ... soft V neck 7.25 radius neck .. vintage style frets ...truss rod adjustment is at the bottom ... if it feels good for your hands you know what to do

I tend to use them all but the often overlooked position 3. I agree, positions 2 and 4 are perfect for clean chorused stuff.

I love the pastels of the 50s models. They pair well with the lacquered maple fingerboards.

Got one of these recently. Set up to float its possible to get really low slick action and those vintage frets are super fast and buttery smooth. I'm predicting they won't last long though .. there's almost nothing to 'em. I'll probably replace them with SS when the time comes. I really dig these vintage frets dude! 7.25" radius kills it for chords and just general tone/feel!

It was a nice step towards healing. They took the trophy and put a Sox shirt over it and placed it at the finish line of the Marathon. It was a little ceremony as a tribute to those affected by the attack.

I tried that exact technique with Reaper and Sonar, but I ran into latency issues. Sonar had the least latency, but then the FX would only output in mono, not stereo. I lost patience and just switched back to the standalone app.

Awesome!! That's the kind of guitar deals I love to see. They're out there, just gotta wait until one comes along. Pawn shops used to be goldmines of awesome guitars. But nowadays they've gotten very savvy about pricing, mainly due to the Internet. That was an awesome find, especially in a pawn shop.

Thanks, Mike! What a stunning turn-around for my Sox. Last year at this time we were talking about how Bobby V was a total waste of a year and how we would need to rebuild for a few years. Today, we had a World Series victory parade. I agree, when Jake escaped from that pickle, it was a good omen for the Sox. I don't think I've ever seen that in the majors. I wouldn't count your Yanks out yet. Every year they find a way to get competitive.

Big Red Sox fan. Nice looking strat. I'd like to hear it clean! I bought a Mexican strat years ago. I modified it with Texas style pickups. Noisy in the alone positions but clean in the combinations. but they surely sound good. Any recommendations?

I just bought this model in surf green from a Cashgenerators shop a couple of days ago, but a past owner had installed a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. So I couldn't pass a deal like that for the little money it was on sale for.

Thanks, Terry. I watched that video. I love the flame top on the DBZ. The shape is cool, too, sort of a rounder version of the Ibanez Artist. I love Jon's Shell Pink Strat. Unfortunately, that color wasn't available on the cheaper ones (except a couple of super cheap Squiers). The cheapest Fender I can find is a MIJ one that runs around a grand. It does look awesome, though, so perhaps one will show up someday for cheap.

I've tried a Peavey video a few months ago and it didn't sound good at all. But, I used the large-diaphragm mic, so maybe getting a condenser mic (like an SM57) would make all the difference. The amp I'm looking at is the Orange Jim Root. That amp is absolutely killer.

Maybe in a future vid, you could mic up the Peavey amp & show us what kind of tones that amp has??? Just a thought, while I still use ampsims, I've got a couple nice little low-watters that I love (Marshall DSL-1 H & Egnater Tweaker 15w head)....Keep the vids comin' dude!!!!
