Thicker oil for a crawler (30wt amd above) greatly restricts the rebound and compression of the shock, which causes the rig to handle poorly. Thinner oil lets the shock do its thing quicker and gives better handling. So basically, in all my crawlers, I run a very thin oil 10-20wt. And in my fast bashing jumping rigs like my traxxas slash, ill run like 50wt in the front shocks and 60wt in the rear due to weight distribution, and impact or pre load absorption. Its all about handling and fine tuning👍🏼
Neither is better to be honest, it depends on the weight of your rig and a lot of variables in that aspect. It’s all a preference thing with oil weight and what YOU the operator thinks is good for your personal rig. Experiment yourself and you’ll learn the difference faster than commenting on something and waiting 9 months for a response.
