I have been blessed to have owned 23 Porsches over the last 40+ years. 1 or more of most every model. Each one had their own wonderful characteristics as well as pitfalls. The early air cooled ones were pure simplicity and fun to drive and way ahead of other sports cars @ the time. The 550 Spyder had incredible power to weight ratio and you were always riding on the edge of the envelope between speed, handling and losing traction/changing direction, especially with the tire technology in those days. Even the 914 when it came out had 4 wheel discs, a targa top, 5 speed trans and fuel injection which few other sports cars had at the time. The 928's were larger, more comfortable and loaded with creature comforts but would cruise the autobahn at supercar speeds all day long. I presently am driving a Boxster which evokes memories of both the 550 and 914. The only thing I can say is that I wish I still had each and every one.

A friend, Dave Hamilton, owned the 3rd Speedster built. It was a sacked out, rough interior, VW engined, old thing. Wasn't worth much in 1987, when he died. Less than $10K,,,,But was valuable shortly afterward. As I recall it was the earliest # Speedster on the road. #1 was in the factory and #2 was in a wreck, gone. After he died the car went to a well known Porsche restorer in Santa Clara, the name escapes me now. I had a 1953 Porsche with a 1964 SC engine and big bore kit.

PORSCHE, Proves Only Rich Suckers Can Have Everything. I wish I was a rich sucker. I discovered a badly clapped out split window Porsche in Tucson Arizona. What little there was left of it included the "banjo" steering wheel. It had been badly wrecked and had bondo and inch thick in from of the windshield. No engine or transmission, more or less an empty hull. I happened to meet the president of the local Porsche club and mentioned it to him. It disappeared in no time at all. I assume he snapped it up and hopefully restored it.
50197 You don't need to be a rich sucker to buy and enjoy a beautifully engineered Porsche. I got a very low mileage Boxster in beautiful condition for the price of a used Corolla. They are the best car secret in the world. I love it dearly and don't want anything fancier. I went on a drive yesterday and it changed my gloomy mood for the rest of the day. You just can't keep from smiling when driving a Porsche. Even a cheap one.

You can get an older 986 or 996 for peanuts. Fine cars. I love my Boxster. If you need a newer, more expensive model you are just trying to impress people, not enjoy a great car.
Ha Ha. Oh the 996, what were they thinking with those front lights? Really a big mistake. Oh well, still a nice car. I shouldn't complain too much because I own a 996.
Oh, get over it. Runny eggs blah blah blah, IMS blah blah blah. If you read much about Porsches, most people are saying that the headlights are beginning to be embraced. And the IMS was always exaggerated while trying to denigrate the 986/996 because they weren't air-cooled Porsches like the Porsche Gods intended. But they saved Porsche.

Sean Gelarden War sucks. But Porsche always just tried to build the best car they could build. They never cut corners that affected quality. They didn't add frills. Much like Carroll Shelby. Build a well engineered car and they will come. And they did.
