Perhaps get more closeups of how the builder packaged suspension, engine, trans/ transfer cases... etc, in your walk around vids so those who are looking for ideas can see how the builder accomplished their goals. Awesome footage to show the capabilities of the rig and the in depth discussion of all mods was spot on!
I second this. Also any feedback from the builder about the challenges overcome. The detail about how the frame was constructed on this jeep to provide clearance for the axle in the front, but drop down low enough in the middle to protect the drive train was interesting. Having some shots on jack stands with the tires off would be cool as well.
I will try to get some photos on my IG of the suspension and clearances as a quick run down some of the biggest challenges were the exhaust routing, coming up with a radiator fan comb that is small enough but adequate. And for sure font axle packaging between upper link mounts hydro bumps steering lines coilover mounts and still have full turning radius.
203 rage box would be a great addition adding a 2:1 reduction on command and ability for front only digs if needed off road design makes the kits to bolt right in between the trans and transfer case
Thanks for doing this. Based on extensive youtube research I'm convinced that if you are building a ground up jeep these days for rock/trail use that the meta is a stretched TJ or YJ, LS, auto, on 42's.
Well, I must say Nate, you nailed it. After watching the previous vids I certainly had my eye on that YJ! I owned my first Jeep, a '92 YJ for almost 15 years and it too, was Black! Cool! Although I now have an LJR... YJ's will always have a place in my heart and they always, no matter how they are built, catch my eye.
I'm trying to find something shorter. I was hoping I did have to change t cases just add something but it's looking like maybe a Dana 300 and a reduction would be the ticket
@@amkaperick if you do go dana 300 the case becomes the week link. My buddy is bringing aluminum Dana 300 cases to the market that have the ability to be either side drop depend on what you need and can swap back and forth. In the future he will make gearset with several different rations and up to 40 spline outputs. Look up midnight metalworks on Instagram or Facebook. Also might do aluminum np205 cases in the future.
THANKS to you , we fired up our first junk yard rebuild yesterday! Your “straight to the point” videos are some of the best. We have real jobs and no sponsors, so budget mined swap was the path we took. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Awsome build, I'm running the stock rubicon transfercase 08 jk, behind a 4l80e that's behind an 8.1 big block, works awesome on my jk for offroad crawling, just did hell's revenge at 2021 jeep safari, also great on highway.
Awsome build! I am building my 89 right now and it was good to see different ideas! I'm running 3 link in the front, 4 in the rear and 14" fix coil overs, narrowed super 60 up front and 10.5 sterling I the rear. I couldn't get my hands on a 6.0 so I got a 5.3 with the 4L60E. The trand makes me nervous lol but it has a good 1st gear, told I can build it up.
I'm actually going from 107" to 115" with a back half. 107" felt too short for anything bigger than 40s on the terrain I wheel. Also I like to go fast. Planning to drop a om606 in also. I do have to say Pitbull doesn't stand behind their products. Just warning potential buyers. All 4 of mine (41.5r17) had the beads fail after 3-4 runs and maybe 300 miles. It was apparently a bad batch of tires but they won't replace them. 🤷♂️
First time ever to click the like button (and commented) before the start of the video. I have wanted to see more on that yj since you went to Moab. That thing looks like very little effort is needed to clear the obstacles it is on. Love it! We (son and I) have a 94 on 37's with a sbc and th400. It has a Pro Comp coil spring conversion that was sold as a kit a long while ago. Thanks Nate for listening to what the subscribers asked for!
I've been planning my jeep out, and I thought I had it figured out. But when I saw his YJ in the video last week I had to rethink the entire build and needless to say it's gonna take much longer now lol
I stretched my Defender to 103'' that worked very well. I put my Discovery at 120'' and bobbed the back, clocked the transfer case, also the sills were removed and I built very close sliders that became part of the door jam sill and axle plates.
That was such a great type of vid to add to your arsenal, nate! I really like the idea of folks talking about their builds, their goals, and how they got to where they are now, and what they'd do differently. This kind of first-hand information is invaluable to people like me who are only a fraction of the way into their builds. My biggest takeaway is that I pretty much need to stop where I'm at with my JKU and get a buggy for the more challenging stuff, so I don't ruin my JK, which is by no means a trailer queen or grocery getter. It gets used hard, but Im not down for the whole body damage/body shop routine. I need to drop the swiss army knife idea and just build another crawler/offroader... to add to the, already bursting quiver of sand rails, quads, side by sides and a track car. Its a sickness, yes, and I'm chest deep!
In no way am I trying to be rude. You mentioned it was your first "walk around" and I enjoyed the video and I wanted to provide a little feedback. In my opinion you could of used more B-roll when yall were talking about various parts. The majority of the film is yall sitting on stools talking about that sweet Jeep sitting behind you. Don't get me wrong, the information is awesome. Just more Jeep footage would of been great. It would of been really cool if Andy had some pictures or film of the build process as well. We'll be in the Washington / Oregon area around September or October. Maybe we can all hit some trails. Again great video and love the channel man 🤙 -Thomas
thanks for the walkaround, this is pretty great but i would love to know belly height. also for gear reduction he could look at a ford 205 with a nwf black box that would give a 1.96 low range with an optional 2.72 low range for a total of 5.33 low range with both. that combo would also be an inch or so shorter than the 241 that is currently in there. edit: offroad design also makes a version of what nwf markets as their black box.
Thank you the speed sensor was actually one of my concerns looks like I have some quotes to get I was hoping to keep the tcase but it's not looking like that will be an option
@@amkaperick you could keep your transfer case and run a crawl box in front of it but that'll add around 8" to your drivetrain and your low range options would be 2.72 to 1 and 7.4 to 1 which I thought was too low with a V8 and an auto. The other option is one of the crawl boxes to a 205. That'll give you the 2.72 and then a 5.33 to 1 but then your speed sensor will have to be on the transfer case output shaft and I'm not sure how it would shift in low range.
That is a bad ass YJ right there. I thought any old TBI 5.7 in a Jeep would be plenty of power.... Now that I have wheeled with it for a while and went to 40's I think a build 6.0 like Kapp's sounds like a much better option.
I was surprised by the transfer case option but it makes some sense if you’re running the skinny pedal to the floor often. I have a simple 5.3 with a low lift cam paired with a 4l60 and a 2016 4:1 case. I’ve kept myself from doing full send due to the chain drive but man is it tempting lol. Awesome build and even more awesome he’s done most of it himself!
As many of the commenters have said, NWFab. Take the guts out of that NP241 and put them into their EcoBox, then run a married NP205 from a Ford behind the EcoBox. 1.96, 2.72 or 5.33 options. Only adds a few inches of length compared to a normal slip-yoke NP241.
Nate super sick video man......kapp one of the most extensively engineered jeeps ive seen by a regular dude.... not by a dentist with $156,000 bought rig who has never changed his own oil....if you could help me with one question nate whats the difference between the 2 types of 3 links kapp has on his jeep?.
Talking about turning radius. So my 2001 Ford F350 Superduty Crewcab Long bed on air bags and 35's is 22' long and if I crank the wheel quick enough it only takes 5 lanes to do a U-Turn
I'm running a 4-speed Atlas with a 2.72:1 crawl box and a 2.0:1 t-case low...be careful what you tell Advance Adapters as far a power is concerned...they'll limit your low range ratio options....apparently the Coyote only warrants the abovementioned ratios...my Scrambler with a 4.3:1 with a 2.48:1 1st gear is, in my opinion, is the ideal crawl ratio...the 5.44:1 may be a bit low in 1st gear may be a bit low...but you can upshift to allow for that.
Oh man that’s a great build....been watching Kapps on the gram for a while. Why would you choose a four link over a three link front end....is it for durability???
Hi Nate, regarding a lower box that goes in front of the transfer. a company called Northwest fabworks. may have just what you are looking for. ive been looking for the same for my toyota. super strong stuff. i think its called an eco crawler.
Hey man I really love the videos. Entertaining and educational. I was hoping maybe you could make a video on some tips for welding, aluminum specifically. I'm kind of self learning right now and could use some advise. Thank you for the great videos!
It can be bolted to the front of the t case, rear of the t case, or the tailshaft of the transmission... they are only about 8" long and they can handle 1200hp... my boy back home in jersey (im in nc) has an 800 hp carburetor fed mustang with 496 gears in the rear ...with gear vendors unit he rides at 1800 rpms on the turnpike in 5th gear at 150 mph...(occasionally)..... they could be built for either and underdrive unit or an overdrive unit it takes a 6-speed and turns it into a 12 great unit very tough but I believe it's slightly pricey hope this helped man rock on with the videos
