this motor 327 and the 292 chevy 6 are their best engines,this one responds well to cam,carb and fenderwell headers,the stroke on this motor is perfect for street racing
Nathan, I seen your comment here is over one year old, hopefullyou've got what you need by now, but if not. - You can achieve those power goals. But you will A LOT of duration on the cam, a tight LSA on the cam. A lot of compression, and the engine will lose any street manners you intended on keeping. Expect to twist a 5xx horsepower short stroke engine 7500-8500 rpm and it most likely won't come alive 'til 4k or above. Hope that little bit helps! & Good luck!
How many of these comments mention how to build a small journal to 500 horse are complete bullshit? Cylinder head, intake, and camshaft. Thats how you build your motor for horespower. Nothing complex here.

got a question for u ..i got a 1990 k5 blazer 700r trans 2000 to 2400 torque converter in it and im thinking about buying this race motor it has 12.5 to 1 sbc 355 030 over with elgin e-1090p solid flat tappet cam with scorpion 1.6 rockers for total lift of 573intake 594 exhust can i use the torque converter i have on this engine,,..i no i got alot of things to change because it is a tbi fuel injection

man your a idiot. I've built and had lots of SBC. You dont have to have a a huge duration cam to make 500hp. Its actually easy. I had a 355 that made 500 with a scat rotating assembly flat top 2 valve relief zero decked world product 200cc heads solid cam .515/525 289/296 duration with a vitck jr intake on a holly 500 4412 2 bbl carb.
You're totally out to lunch with your statement.. 500hp is not a problem from a 331ci sbc.. Ben there done that.. Took my 83 S10 to a 10.64 et. 131mph.. Back in 96.. Put your head back in the books kid.
if this is in fact a 327 with 500 plus horsepower then it has modern high-flowing heads and and big cam with high duration and lift with a high stall as well as forged domed pistons and all forged internals
Tony 282 you can obviously see aluminum heads a 327 with a good head and compression motor sounds atleast 11:1 can make 500hp to the fly wheel pretty easy they were making 350-375 back in the 60s new better flowing heads and intake with a nice solid roller and free flowing exhaust 500 is easy now a days
Now i wouldnt say its easy in general. sure it can be easy with the right budget but for the most part, creating a 500 hp naturally aspirated 327 is not very easy as parts must be matched so precisely and for a 327 to make 500 hp it would need to be revving upwards of 7 grand! :0 .
