I'd say more of 2/5 the quality. There's a ton of fine detailing that isn't happening, a lot of machine assembly, a lack of precision lubrication, likely no QC along the build process, lower quality materials, much less water resistance, wider tolerances, etc. Though China's watchmaking industry has gotten much better, you still get what you pay for. If my life depended on a mechanical watch I'd go Swiss any day since I could trust it to last in the worst conditions
They're getting better but they still rely on other brands' designs which is a shame. For the money you can definitely have some fun with them though. Now I'm really interested in San Martin's ploprof homage.
@@TransistorBased it depends on the brand and the money that you pay... You get 2/5 of the quality for 50USD watches... But if you drop 200 USD you can get decent quality... You get decent steel, ok leather strap, a good sapphire crystal and an ok movement. I think the biggest problem is QC. It's a good option for the mayority of people that can't spend a lot and want a good looking watch... (Like 90% of the world population). But I agree that china don't respect much workers rights and their industry copies. So there is a little bit of moral conflict here for me.
Excellent review. I agreed with everything you said, apart from the last point: wearing that Corgeut WOULD make me feel special and proud of owning it, knowing I had an excellent value watch that few people know about.
Interesting comparison! The Aqua Terra is a fantastic watch. The fact that you can even think of putting the Corgeut beside the Omega speaks volumes on how far Chinese manufacturing has come - especially for the insanely low price. Subbed!
A really unique comparison. Of course, no one expected the Corgeut to top the Omega, but I was surprised at how well it stacked up given that it's just fifty bucks.
Yeah right? It even has a sapphire crystal which I forgot to mention. It's a good buy for those who want something that looks like an Omega as much as possible without paying thousands for it.
Since 1984 I own a Speedmaster. After some 35 year it got it's first revision because it looked realy worn and the movement needed maintanance. After 6 weeks i got my Speedy back and it looked like a brandnew one. And the revision was 20 times the price of one Corgeut. Today you can keep you precious timepeaces save and wear something similar for the hard use. So why not buy a cheap watch for the heavy duty using and have the design you like? Exactly! The OceanX Sharkamster which I'm working on is 300 eur is one of the watches that I'm enjoying the most right now. If you haven't heard of them you can check them out. Most of them are a bit too big though.
If you love the 8900/8500 AT as I do, best advice is get a pre-owned AT as it will be quite discounted and hold its value. If cost is a problem, find a 1st gen quartz which will be the cheapest ones and have minimal maintenance cost.
By all means - PLEASE do a Black Bay video. These side-by-side shoot outs are really important. They help to underscore why The originals are worthwhile
The Phylida Version is Better NH35 Double Domed sapphire and the Hands under the loop look great as do the brushed and polished indices BGW9 Lume is sufficient being this is not a dive watch. Where Phylidas version falls short is the Bracelet which is stiff. and not following.
It does sound like it's quite a bit better. I've just ordered a phylida planet ocean homage to compare to my orange bezel omega op. Unfortunately the phyilida po comes with a miyota 8xxx movement if I'm not wrong.
I have a 2013 quartz AT and really like it!!!! I just bought a green dial phylida AT homage, waiting for it to arrive. I recently tried to get the authentic green dial at the Omega AT but they have not received any in my country. Anxious to see how my watches will compare. Good video. I have the 8900 movement in my Omega Globemaster AC and love that watch
I am a huge Omega fan and acknowledge it's heritage and quality. But, I will never be in a position to buy one. And, I am not comfortable with paying for wealthy, spoiled influencers and extremely costly sponsorships. I must admit that the design of the Corgeut is stolen, but it is not a bad watch. If you buy the one with the Seiko NH35 movement, it is great value for money. You just maybe get some satisfaction out of it after all.
The quality of certain "cheap" Chinese watches is rather disturbing, almost difficult to believe. It's just a question of slightly refining certain specs then it's (almost) game over.
That's step one, but I think an important step two is for these companies to step away from the "very close homage" watches and start designing watches for the world market (meaning not just watches that aimed for the domestic Chinese Market) aside from the occasional watch like the Cadison 1032 or the hi-beat Starking which have proven to be big hits with the affordable watch crowd. That is probably an investment (in design and market research) that these companies do not want to make right now. And why should they? Apparently, there is a strong market for this type of homage watch. That's a shame, too, because high quality, original watches coming out of China could really disrupt the affordable watch market.
What I really like, is when then go further with something different, like the 20mm lugs in this one, the bronze version of Cronos or funky dials. Yes they're not as good as my Aqua Terra, but they're fun and can be abused.
Is the Corgeut worth 50 eur, YES, is the Omega worth 5000 eur, NO. I have owned a few Corgeut watches and for the money they are incredible. It goes without saying that the Omega is considerably better, but a hundred times better? One more thing, when pronouncing Corgeut, there is no "T" at the end

Now you have a "beater watch" to keep your Omega looking and working brand new, 99% of your friends or coworkers would not know which watch you are wearing on a given day. BTW One Omega watchmaker service would probably buy you four or five Corgeut back up watches.
You kinda right. Whenever I don't worry about my more expensive watches I wear the Chinese ones. I actually sold this Aqua Terra and got a Planet Ocean instead. Now I have to get a Phylida PO homage and do another comparison video 😂
Silly comparison, though the Chinese watch seems like a good deal. A functional automatic for that price is hard to beat. Omega is an excellent watch and compares with the top low tier luxury watches. (Less than $10,000). A better comparison would be with a Grand Seiko Springdrive Watch, Rolex, Blancpain etc. Good luck on your channel.
Yes, up to 10k Omega definitely gives other luxury brands a run for their money. And I agree about you comparsion suggestion. In fact, I'm currently considering adding a grand seiko spring drive sbga203 to the collection.

The quality of the Corguet watch is terrrible. DONT buy the Corgeut. Mine broke after 5 months and the Corgeut official store would not honor the one year gaurantee. DONT waste your money. Other buyers have had problems with the crown not screwing down. Stay away and don't waste your money. There are other homages by Pagani and Phyllida and others to buy.
I'm sure what they are after for those who get a corguet or other homage watches.Simply they want a look without breaking a bank & without purchased a counterfeit.Many homage still an established company with a warranty so I kinda weird why many still comparing a expensive original with a ridiculous cheaper homage.What do you aspect to find out??Price,finishing,heritage, prestige & aftersale services absolutely different in value but the one thing for sure both are telling a time.Wanna be more accurate just get quartz.
Hi there, I think we are on the same page. In my case I'm comparing these two precisely for the reasons you're mentioning. There are many people out there that like the looks of a certain luxury watch but don't want to spend let's say 5k on it. So, as you say they start looking for a cheap alternative that happens to be of good quality. That's why I made this video, to show people that such watches exist. They don't come with all the bells and whistles of luxury watches but they're good nonetheless. Personally speaking, I have nothing against Chinese homage watches, homages in general and quartz watches. So far all the watches I've filmed I've bought myself because I like them.
The question is: is the Omega which basically more than 40% is made in China anyway.....is it really 100x better than the Corgeut? If you spent $6,000 for the Omega and keep telling yourself that the Omega is ACTUALLY MADE IN SWISS. sure I guess you NEED to justify its existence, right! For me, yes I like the Omega, too but $6,000+ could buy me many many more watches also” socall Swiss made” like 3 or 4 Longine, Tissot, Oris, Mido, Sinn, Fortis, Hamilton Or high specs Seiko instead of just one watch! Agree, that's basically what I said during the video my friend. Omega is great and everything but not 100x better than the Corgeut. Of course! But it has the prestige (on top of other things) that many people care about more than the actual watch. Hence, the hefty price tag. Personally, I enjoy watches of all price ranges. Buying expensive watches is not easy for me, so I often find a lot of joy in Oris, Seiko, some microbrands and I'm definitely considering Sinn, especially the 144 chrono. Thank you for your comment!
You're actually a moron if you think anything from the Omega is made in China. Swatch has complete vertical integration and makes every part in-house. Since they directly advertise that every part is made in Switzerland, they'd be hit pretty heavily with fines and potential lawsuits from the horology industry if it wasn't true.

Corgeut use several different movements depending on the model. Chinese and Japanese. I think that they should move towards using more of the Seiko made NH 35 etc, series.
Omega absolutely worth 100x the Chinese knockoff. Cheap watches are a lot of fun, but if one were to start with the AT, one could never live with the Corgeut afterwards.
The thing that puts me off Chinese watches is the weired watch names they have that look almost comical printed on the dial like the phylida it's sounds and looks like a sexualy transmitted disease ✌️🧐🇬🇧🇺🇦
