I’m not really a fan of the legends content as they don’t really count as canon and it doesn’t really exist in the SW universe but I guess that’s just my opinion.
Dude! First of all, I love your new graphics and such. Great look and feel for the channel!! Second...well, you're talking a lot about Legends Sith...are there any outstanding Legends Jedi from way back that would be fun to cover?
Vader "Join me and together we will rule the galaxy as father and son." Luke "Aight." 5 hours later, Luke "I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new empire!" Vader "Ughhhh"
How so? The prequel trilogy is far more Roman influenced than The Old Republic era stuff... "Galactic Republic", "Politician taking over the Senate through corruption and manipulation and then turning the Republic into an Empire"... the Greco-Roman style tragedy of Anakin Skywalker's fall to the darkside etc...
AJD OLD CHANNEL ARCHIVE Eh, it more mirrors the rise of the third reich. There was no Octavian figure, conquering everything, it was inner corruption. And then there’s the Jedi purge as well.
@@solvemproblerstudios5889 if you look at it the empire was designed to mirror the Nazis. The imperials outfits look third Reich, the Jedi purge= Jews, etc.
Disney can never rip stories away from you. That is the fans shape canon not a bank account. Fictional or not, its a big stretch to think someone can rewrite 30k years of history because they have the money to own and manipulate a company.
I love this time period in Star Wars so much, more so than the prequel, old trilogy or new films time periods. The Darth Bane book trilogy rule of two are some of my favourite Star Wars books and I re read them every couple years, plus some of the further back old republic books too. So good.
Besides Darth Bane trilogy, what books + other media do I need to get inorder to get into the Old Republic era? I've always been wanting to get into that era.
Jake 117 it’s hard because I was first introduced to that period in the KOTOR games on the first Xbox and then I played the old republic MMO, gave me a good understanding of that era of Star Wars. They are dated games now but if you like that stuff check them out for sure, think the first KOTOR is even available on the App Store now. There are some decent books on the old republic as well such as “Deceived” by Paul S Kemp, Darth bane which I already mentioned and “Star Wars Old Republic Annihilation” some of my favourites on the old republic. Disney have recently re released the comics from dark horse about the old republic called “Star Wars Legends epic collection: old republic” which is what this video is taking the stories from, they are really really good and I would recommend checking them out. They are up to the third volume release now. Also watch some of trailers they released for the old republic MMO before it was out, they are like mini animated movies and amazing quality, just type in old republic trailers on RU-vid. Hope that helps ! I still live in hope Disney will make movies on the period.
@@davidnguyen3469 what agenda have they pushed? Women who aren't human because they don't fail? I'm fine with feminizing star wars, just don't make it shit. People fail, men fail. Women should fail. It's just nature
@@insanefanta8025 There's a push, not just by Disney mind you, for inclusion at all costs and strong female characters. It's not that either of those are bad inherently, but the way they are forced upon the audience is. Rey is a Mary Sue, Dumbledore is gay and Ciri is black. None of those examples would exist out of the context of the agenda. And just for clarification why those specifically are bad, Luke's story and its characters suffer because of Rey's arch, Dumbledore's orientation plays no significance to the overall story, and Ciri's change of ethnicity breaks the established lore. So I'll repeat again, it's not the ideology that's bad, it's the forced integration.
Me: "The EU was so powerful, it could even retain a loyal fan following in 2019." New-age fan: Is it possible to learn this fandom?" Me: "Not from a Disney..."
*Fun fact:* the Great Hyperspace War was actually alluded in the prequels, as one of the many Valuables located in the office of the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic was a frieze that depicted one battle of the first Jedi VS Sith War, being that fact confirmed in the novelization of Episode III
Any of the Legends stuff always has great story/ history behind it all, as long as no one makes a mess of it, and turns it into A BAD movie, all of it would be great.
“When I was born, we thought the rest of the Galaxy to be mystery and legend. We had been alone for a thousand years. We had total control of a hundred star systems. Then the Jedi drove us to the farthest fringe of the Galaxy” -Lord Scourge, Emperor’s Wrath “They still owe us a few millennia of slavery for what they did to us” -Lord Wrath, Emperor’s Wrath II
I absolutely love how you’re doing true George Lucas Star Wars content right now that is totally awesome, when other channels are talking about Disney Star Wars and sequel trilogy stuff.
Great Legends Video. I have a two questions Theory. Are Sith Lords considered Sith gods? Like are they actually Sith gods like in Mythology? I feel like Star Wars was also a Mythology universe and not just some "Sci-fi" universe as many and many people say it is. And another question. Can you do a What if? Here's mine: What If Exar Kun survived during the War of the Jedi and Sith? What would happen if Exar Kun manages to transfer his own spirit into Luke Skywalker?
Oh you’re definitely right about the mythology part. Look at Vitiate, aka The Sith Emperor who had such power that it made both Jedi and Sith ally with one another to stand against him. He even proclaimed himself to be a God. Star Wars is in my eyes just as much of a Sci-fi universe as it is a Mythology universe
@@DarthNoox Hmm. Fair enough. Vitiate, I believe, should be very powerful in the force, in fact, I think he's like, maybe, solar system level? Or Multi-solar system level? I seriously need to work on my physics. Anyways, to me, I see Star Wars as more than just Sci-fi, I see Star Wars as a meaning. A meaning of hope, a meaning of whatever comes in our way, a meaning of victory and meaning of how Star Wars relates to this cruel world. A Star Wars inspired by a lot of Mythologies, and how Mythology of Star Wars connects to the society today. Star Wars is its own Mythology in a Mythological, fantasy universe that binds us fans (cough except toxic ones cough cough) together. I still think Sith Lords are like Sith gods, inspired by many Mythological gods. Ex. Sidious once said in a novel book of Plagueis, that he was death itself. Seems to me he might be inspired by Thanotos, the greek god of death.
There is a fanfic series called galactic exodus chronicles where rebels find Exar on Yavin and he comes back to life then. They are working on another series but there are 2 here with the second having over 700 thousand words. Personally I'd rather Bane or Vitiate come back to life though.
Apparently the initial Dark Jedi under Ajunta Pall were regarded as gods, and the veneration of Marka Ragnos and Naga Sadow's domination of the Massassi suggests that Celtic significance was given at least to the Dark Lords. It appears to have disappeared when the Sith species was functionally wiped out as a living culture; while their knowledge of the dark side survived, the future Sith abandoned most of the unique cultural practices of the Sith species, probably because they were mostly non-Sith fallen Jedi.
For example amazing Sith like Darth Vowrawn, Malgus, Marr and of course Nox (“I really am the best”) and the terrifying existence that is the Sith Emperor
Revolver Ocelot it'd be a touchy element to work with, but in the hands of the right writer it could be interesting to watch, probably like "the boy with striped pajamas" times ten. I'd honestly like to watch it along with something similar like the old republic tale of the Jedi covenant slaying their padawans to prevent the sith from returning.
Love that you’re covering EU lore and history so heavily now. I hope you cover the EU Clone Wars comics and 2003 show too. I loved the Filoni show as a kid but looking back at older material I grew to agree with older EU fans on which version just fit better IMO.
Great Video as always!!! I guess when you got your last books you had to think for yourself "they will make a fine addition to my collection!" and maybe, just maybe, you had to caugh a little^^
Wow bro, did you just say that legends is better than Disney canon. That was absolutely hilarious and original and I've never heard anyone else say that. I shall applaud at your words of wisdom and leave a like on this comment.
Thanks for covering this. As someone who played Star Wars the Old Republic for several years it's nice to see its lore covered. I think it would be really interesting to cover Revan as well. He was by far the most interesting character in that game in my opinion. However, I always found Arcann and Thexan's stories fascinating as well.
We like to see more Legends stories; everything in it, especially from before the Republic and everything before The Phantom Menace. Everything in Legends deserves to be remembered and be part of the Star Wars lore.
Yes please do more of the old republic days. I was explaining this very subject to a good friend of mine earlier this week and this video is so perfect for those who don't know about the old republic era tales thanks man keep it up and May the Force be with you always.
I love how the sith are using enchanted swords with few using sabers. Goes to show how different things would be that far back in the past, right BIOWARE?
I would like to see videos about the Rakatan Empire onwards to 1000 BBY. I think the period thousands of years before the Galactic Empire is by far the most interesting. That covers 10s of 1000s of years IIRC.
Disney but fucked all the lore just so they wouldn't be forced to recognize ancient event and shit ! These bitches referenced that the hyperdrive has only been around for about 4,000 years in the Tarkin novel and I lost my shit. That statement right there flat out destroys 40% of Legends. I can't believe they're so lazy to update and keep tabs on the lore that they flat out erased it and rewrote it just to easy the work load. Makes me sick...
But in the knights of the old republic comics they say that naga sadow was a padawan turned to the dark side in the sith war before the mandalorian war, and that was the reason the masters chose to kill Zayne and the padawans
I would certainly join the Sith and ensure their victory with my knowledge. Who wants the Jedi to win especially since they already won in all the stories. If you're going through time and space mess it up. Ensure another side wins.
I hate the Force. I hate that it seems to have a will. When it's trying to achieve some mesure of balance while countless lives are lost. You are beautiful to me, exile.
I would love to see Disney adapt this type of content into their future Star Wars movies lineup, and I’d also love to see Respawn create a video game pertaining to the Old Republic and eras broadening beyond that varying from the Great Hyperspace War and Legends comics. It’d be exactly what the Star Wars franchise needs. A faithful reinvention that sparks life into the formula that is becoming mundane and “samey”.
Should make a video on the origins of the jedi. Back before the schism when both light and dark arts were practiced and the force was in balance on Tython
@@yokgor4675 Stronger. Darth Bane for example would've kicked old Palpy's ass 6 ways from Sunday and back and he was around a thousand years before the old guy.
EarFarce4 Palpatine stomps Darth Bane, because he was meant to be, the new generation of Sith will always be stronger than the last one, that’s what Darth Bane wants. Palpatine is the end product of thousands of years of perfecting and improving the Sith art, starting from Bane. Also Palpatine has been stated numerous times to be THE strongest Sith of ALL TIME, even in the EU
I have a question At downtown Disney in LA They have a virtual reality Star Wars mission In witch an ancient lightsaber is found Is that canon and what is that lightsaber?
I love the old republic stuff for Star wars thanks for doing this video brings me back up on all the comics I've read back in the day dark horse did a great job with the old republic stuff I loved it so much I hope they do a movie that's going to be amazing
Hey, Star Wars theory! WOW! It's bee some time since I last saw any of this content being discussed by anyone. I read all the comics you used and to see them again is nostalgic at least. Really great video! I follow you for some time now and all your videos are just amazing. I'd very much like a video discussing the previous conflict, The Schism. I have some doubts about it as to the number of schisms (I think there were two with a little gap between them, idk) and the names used at the time (I don't think it was Jedi as in the movies). So I guess that' it. Thx again for the video.
Do the Skism, and the sith regeneration, etc etc. But Don’t forget... The Alien Races, “What about how the wookies began?” More detailed review of Huttspace during said time. Cassus Fett? Maybe? Canderous Ordo, Bastila after Revan Left. Revan during Enslavement by Emperor Viciate Dude you could go on and On. Darth Ruin is something I find fascinating, also, maybe some stuff about sith groups back then too. Jedi offshoot groups. Grey Jedi soldiers. Dude I could keep going but I’d run out of room. XD.
There is Quite literally Hundreds of Starwars Stories maybe Thousands... Seeped in the Old Republic. And even before. When the republic in Starwars was Young. Hell Lets even jump back to the Rakata Prime Dark force wielders and all the crazy ass shit that happened back then. Amazing to see it all done right.
Do the life of Tenebrae (Darth Vitiate/Valkorion), he was responsible so much in the Old Republic era, even Marka Ragnos recognized his potential and gifted him a planet.
Yes please make a video of the great schism and do videos of all the old republic and legends stories if you can I know it’s a lot to cover but to be honest most of it is a lot better than most of the new Disney Star Wars stuff
Hey! Always admire the work you do on the lore behind SW. I'd be really interested to see your take on the First Great Schism, as it always seemed to be one of those events where both sides were right and wrong, and 'You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view'.
