Sthil has two sets of dogs (bumper spikes) available here in the States. The larger ones usually come with a larger clutch cover and wrap handles that are popular on the West Coast. I’ve been very curious about the fuel mapping of those 500i’s. The dealer said they don’t even know because Sthil is so hush hush about it. I believe they don’t know about the magic in the black box but I have my doubts that it is because Sthil is keeping all of it a secret.

I found a dyno chart from youtube the Horsepower and Torque have a good curve that follow each other good. The 500i has a lots of bottom and mid eqnge torque make it a very powerful saw. I noticed my say has big Spikes I was happy with that I did not know it was standard now. Don't think China will be making any copies od the coil pack any time soon. At least it away from the motor less heat and vibration.

@@ChainsawUsers Lots of clutch killing torque in the mid and lower. We keep our clutch and drum very clean and have not had any issues with this second clutch and drum. We had an oil pump leak when it was new and it started smoking right in the middle of a very crucial cut that had to be finished quickly once started. We replaced the clutch, drum, and the little seal on the discharge of the oil pump. We’ve slipped the new clutch briefly a few times before it really started to hold. We use the three point dogs from West Coast Saw and keep them sharp. The larger Stihl ones are pretty good though. The power to weight ratio for a stock saw is insane! I wouldn’t mind having another one with a 20” or 24” lightweight bar. We could use a 241 and 261 with the same power to weight ratio, and beefed up so they could easily run 404.

I got a 500i that wont start. I had unplugged the 3 plugs on the right side and plugged them back in and at first it started and idled really high and now it won't start at all. Any ideas?

That could be anything. Take it to a stihl dealer they will plug it in to a computer it will show what's wrong.

Not really it's a very reliable saw it's just to be aware of the problems. All other saw are plagued form carburetor problems and need tuning ect. The 500i is one of the most reliable saws. I am just highlighting some issues that have been known to exist.

Not really, almost all videos with "problems" on these is because they were ran over or other physical damage done to them. There's also normal to have some bad apples, seeing how all loggers and their mothers are running only 500is these days. There's just so many of them out there, probably Stihl's biggest hit in decades.
