Dude, your channel is SUPER good! Thanks for posting! How long are the cylinder liners? I'm trying to figure out what stroke a person can put in these so the piston doesn't stick out too far, and so you don't have to use pistons where the wrist pin hole goes through the oil ring.
I'm curious if u will be doing a video on the Chevy 8.1 Liter 496 engine from about 2002 or 3 to 2006 or 8 whenever they quit making them? I always thought the 502 like this would make a better engine than the 496 as its got the bigger bores and 4 inch stroke is long enough I feel from the 4.3 something stroke in the 8.1 liter and 4.25 bores.
I've been living with a 7.4L TBI 5th Gen for 18 years. (454) If anyone is seeking any info on the care and feeding, I have a pretty good resource bank. Its been flawless, but all the external stuff has been replaced at least once. It got 12MPG on real gas and now gets about 9.5 with the Ethanol mix, 87. The only Q I'm looking for an answer for is what is the optimal spark timing setting? Factory is 0 in bypass mode and I have it at about 4BTDC.
I have a 502 in my boat been a great motor and oil cooler line goes to my heat exchanger from lake water to cool the oil and it cools super good and in a boat you have to pull heads for raw water cooling the head gadgets will rust out the second season so I put A set of Fel-Pro sever duty marine head gaskets and they have been on here for 20+ years and I have Edelbrock aluminum marine heads bronze guides stainless intake and inconclusive exhaust valves and rpm perfourm alum intake aluminum cast exhaust manifolds that are water cooled and stainless risers straight out the back of boat and a 850 C&S Specialties they build custom Holley carbs which is the best carb I have ever owned not cheap and they build custom fuel injection and they are in St Charles Missouri but this rig is 20+ years old and the motor has never been out of boat I just send the carb in for rebuild and up graded the one piece main seals have never leaked and rocker covers are made to fit for the Black Thunder aluminum water cooled exhaust manifolds and they are cast aluminum mirror polish machined for Orin seals and have never leaked or replaced and yes it’s a full roller motor with Howard’s cam Crane gold roller rockers and turn 6000 rpm’s all day long and I bought this crate motor new from GM for 3600 bucks and I would hate to see them now. Iam wanting a 632 bbc carb motor and out of the box at 1000 hp now that’s sweet .
I'm pretty sure all 502 and 454 gen 6 crate Motors came with hydraulic roller cam. Even the L29. could it be someone put a different cam in it early in its life?
The 8.1L is an upgrade to the Vortec 7.4L. There's not a lot of interchangeability with Vortec 7.4's. I used to visit the Tonawanda engine plant during their open houses.
Myvintageiron7512 hello I like videos very informative I have a question on compression I have a bone stock gen 6 454 haven't tore it down yet I also have a set of 14097021 piston with dimpled rods and forged crank compression is supposed to be 9-1 stock will these pistons work
