Oh the memories come flooding back, nobody can really disagree that Aqualung was the seminal Jethro Tull album, and this cover is so memorable, thanks Stewart

So i was 13 in 1973, when I was listening to this album…a lot. And this particular track probably influenced me more than I realised..esp as I was attending a CofE school at the time. Great rendition i think. The lyrics are very much of their time. Not sure younger people would actually get them now. Church was sort of all pervasive back then. Church Youth club, school services, lots of choir singing etc…confirmation… but I was never totally convinced and this track certainly made you think. One of my fave Tull songs.

You inspirations are like my own, your guitar playing, singing, surpass mine greatly ... good for you feeling Ian's life in his songs. Showing the world how your life has been inspired by "an elder".

Hi Stewart, I watched and was amazed by this cover three years ago. I was blown' away then, and three years later when I've come back to revisit this, I am still blown' away ! Not only by the way you played and sang, but by the excellent choice in song, and spot on interpretation of Ian's meaning of the song. When I first heard this album "Aqualung" back in '71 I was a freshman in an all boys catholic high school. I felt exactly like Ian Anderson, about them getting God all wrong. It was the '70's and fire and brimstone were still the order of the day, at least in my catholic school. When I graduated in '75 I never looked back or considered "mans religion" to this day ! But there is a God. And you are an amazing talent. Thanx for the memory.

This takes me a long time ago a very long time ago when i was rebellious, this song was very much where I was when it came out, used to bash away at this in some fashion, once with a group wandering around a park when Christmas caorls were being sung and making lots of noise and singing this as loud as we could the rebel in me went on to do battle with unions on a job site with nearly dire consequences

Magnificent. High school took a chunk out of my present incarnation. Been trying to get it back ever since. Great to see sincere people doing a sincere track. Just gotta focus on the positive aspects of me and the world at large.

Ian Anderson is a brilliant genius and an incredibly talented songwriter and performer, but in his brilliance he has rolled off the track a little. Teach others the wonderful techniques that you have developed over your wonderful career, but please accept that your voice is gone!

Another reason I'm a lifelong Tull fan. Something of an anarchist myself, Ian's expressions of disdain for the lockstep system always strike a chord in my soul. Reject the programming.

I prefer dropping the pitch one tone. Start on C instead of D. Ian did it that way in the Aqualung album Live charity CD. So to you guitar players give it a go. Either key this song is great.

Great job on the vocals and acoustic parts, but I missed Martin Barre's cranking lead guitar in the middle of the song;: though I'm sure you can do it.

Great cover sir--- One question: what does mean the expression Wind up in that context? Thanks
@DailySporran
@DailySporran 2 года назад
Thank you. “Wind up” in England means two things - 1) some item that works by being wound up (like a clock); 2) to play a joke on someone. “He’s not the kind you have to wind up on Sunday” here refers to the idea that God is much more than a presence in your life that you just remember on Sunday (the first meaning of Wind Up). But there is definitely a sense of the second meaning in the song too.
