Delighted you are back working on the Ferguson 20. I love these videos and I like the way you deal with the problems that arise on the way that may not have been foreseen. Your son is a great addition to the project. It brings me back to my youth when I was assisting my father with the various mechanical problems he was dealing with. Very often it involved holding the lamp or getting a spanner. At present I am rebuilding the engine on one of these tractors. I am encountering many problems but I will get there. Unfortunately advise is scarce as all the mechanics I knew who worked on these tractors have passed away. Keep up the good work. Jim

Hi Jim, thank you for your comment and encouraging words. I agree, the videos are better when Oscar joins me and we really enjoy working on the tractor together. I too used to help my step father when I was young and it what gave me my love for all things mechanical. Good luck with your engine rebuild, we’ve not got that far yet, it’s a little down the track for us still. Have you watched Lance’s videos, at Bundy Bears Shed? He has some great videos on all manner of tractor restoration and repairs. He is also extremely helpful if you email him he is always willing to help and advise. Glad to have you along on our journey, it is still amazing to me that people find what we’re doing interesting. 😁

Just a little background on where I am involved in this rebuild now. I purchased an abandoned Ferguson 20 back in the early 1980s. I did a lot of work on it and I have maintained it ever since. Unfortunately, it had a couple of oil leaks with I had failed to repair and early this year I ran the engine not realizing it was low on oil and did some damage to the engine. Although I am a senior citizen I decided to rebuild the engine and eliminate the oil leaks permanently. I was very much inspired by Lance when I took on the job. RU-vid is a fantastic resource and it has assisted me many times. In fact I am on RU-vid most nights looking for information and learning about all sorts of subjects. Given my experience I think there is need for a RU-vid film on sorting out leaks on such tractors. Best wishes Keep up the good work. Jim

Thanks Jim, oh I think the oil leaks are part of the package! (j) I suppose the manufacturing tolerances were quite high and so a lot of attention is required to obtain a decent seal. When I get to the engine, I will certainly be focussing on this aspect. Which are the main areas you've noticed as problematic?

Nice one Gordon. Now, I'm NOT a safety person. But please get Oscar some safety boots. Can be a few sizes too big so they'll last a while. But when something fall on his foot, it will save him a lot of pain.

Hi Malcolm, thank you for your comment, I agree. I only noticed he was wearing sandals when I was editing the video. I need to pay more attention! 😉

@@WaterhouseForde No problem. I always wore trainers. Luckily survived. However got free safety boots when I worked in the factory in 1981?? I was always careful (still am) however a heavy round bar fell off a pallet as I was walking past. Had I not had these boots on, would have had no toes.

That’s the problem, accidents happen so quickly and not always because you’re actually doing something “wrong”. Will be more aware in future.

Hi Dirsehan. Sorry you’re having transmission problems. We are a long way from that I’m afraid. We need to finish the engine rebuild first. We hope to resume the project in the next 2 weeks. Sorry we can’t help you right now. 🙁
