The groundbreaking work of John Locke opened the door to a school of philosophy common known as British Empiricism. In this presentation, the fundamentals of Locke's approach are summarized by Gore, with more development to follow.

I would love to have coffee with Locke and Descartes to hear how they would argue their ideas with each other.

There's 2 colors which your retina refuses to report to your brain. Under specific circumstances this retinal blockage can sometimes be circumvented and suddenly the person will see a new color unlike any before. There's always God there to hear the tree fall. The same God that prepared a brain ready to see colors no eye has yet seen.

Thanks Mr Gore, I have a friend who is an ex-catholic converting to church of england, she is training to be a lawyer and hasnt reconciled her secular job with a faith in christ. I was wondering as an ex lawyer if you could give your two cents on that profession and its role in serving Christ. Thanks for another great video im slowly working through them and regards!

Every Christian lawyer has to wrestle with his/her vocation before God. For what its worth, some of the greatest theologians in history were trained as lawyers (e.g., Luther, Calvin). More deeply, the whole idea of 'law' finally requires a theological root, which is the only thing that prevents law from becoming merely the will of the most powerful forces in the jungle.

Descartes was a platonist. Locke would deny it. 11:47

He explaining secondary qualities via scientific knowledge that was not available in Locke's time, is not that right?

Locke's ideas of primary vs secondary qualities are proven wrong by the double slit single photon inteference experiment. Induction is the glory of science and the scandal of philosophy- Broad. Observation changes what is observed, as predicted by math and demonstrated by science.

I find your videos excellent and a reminder that I was right not to waste my time with philosophy. It has been rightly said that scientists like me make poor philosophers. I find most philosophers useless idiots, whereas we scientists are useful idiots. I am in total agreement with the "Christian synthesis" as the unique way out of the Plato vs Aristotle impasse as you are. There's far more than 5 senses, for example proprioception, and conciousness is demonstrably more than a stream of perception as demonstrated by sensory deprivation studies as well as the Stazi prison. While some come out mad, some come out of sensory deprivation in excellent health. John was Locked into a stupid idea because like most philosophers he demeans induction as a means of reasoning merely because it is illogical.
