Loved the placard on the back of the trailer at Loves. "I may not have a PHD, but I do have a DD-214". God Bless the Veterans and all our men and women serving in all the armed forces.
No no no never cut a belt off because the new one might not be the right length or you'll forget how to put them back on. Great video, I believe Bailey would drive if you'd let her. Safe travels !
I am with you Dan. Never cut them off especially in a rest area parking lot. My luck the new ones would be the wrong fan belts and then I would be stranded there. Plus a keep the old ones in my truck for backup. Keep up the videos!
I live very close to a major Southeast port city and have to drive near the Port Authority Terminal areas often. I see a lot of very poorly maintained and poorly operated trucks coming off I-95 and or entering I-95, and the connecting city streets and residential areas. Loose loads moving around, even containers with the securing pins not engaged. Your professionalism is very noticeable and very appreciated by me. Thank you for presenting and representing a completely different picture than what some of us see daily in the trucking industry.
As an addendum . I’m not sure how much folks appreciate truckers . I was southbound out of Belton , Texas on Tuesday and there was a fatality wreck NB on IH 35. The tie up stretched from Salado to Belton .For some reason I started counting trucks backed up for 11 miles and after counting 315 , I stopped counting. That was 18 wheelers alone. Be safe. Carry on.
Regarding your fan belts I'm no mechanic but I think the way you did it is great. Like you said taking them off you know how to put them back on plus. You were able to save the one set as a spare if you ever need them. Would not have been possible had you cut them
Your fan belt explanation is the same reason why I like to go to the junkyard and tear a car apart to figure out how to do something before I do it on my car. Particularly when it comes to removing interior panels.
You’re right Dan, the easiest, lightest, fuel saving loads can sometimes just be a fight from pickup to delivery. I used to tell young company drivers, make sure things are right before you leave the yard. You’re on your own on the road!
I hope that you do not think this is a stupid question yet before you roll out of the rack do you do any back exercises ? With the activity that you do, your back takes a beating. Feel free to tell me MYOB yet you have a crew following you that is also concerned about the hours that you put in and your health. If you could train Bailey to help you roll out a tarp then that would be a movie !
Just found you here. Binge watch in evening. Great content and great video's. I get the time thing to do video's. I am a career fireman that also runs a row crop farm, feed mill and feed business. Work comes first. I know how bad it is tying stuff down, owned and ran a heavy haul low bed for 10 years, it sucks some time. Keep that Pete running, good truck there.
You done it right Dan, I never cut my belts I take them off and I throw the bag ones away and I keep the good ones in case I need them , For sure plastic pipe is some Slick sno't , Be safe out there Dan
Yep, back in the day, I hauled plenty of fire brick and other refractory products. I delivered many loads to US Steel. Sometimes they need it badly and they would have you drive up onto the pouring floor with ladles flying around and sirens wailing. Some things you just don't forget. And I would have not cut the belts off either.
You do a beautiful job Dan .....you have been Driving a long time.dont Change.NEVER DO THINGS ...DIFFERENT....Actually could you save old belts ....for a EMERGENCY ...belts break ... maybe the old belts will help you and Bailey to limp to get new....ones..
Good stuff Dan! love what you do. Do you remember where you got those milk crates? I would love to get some for my truck with out "accidentally acquiring some for free at the grocery store" lol
Well Dan !!! Hope the guys who cutoff the ""OL"" belts never run into the issue of ""OH NO ,,the ""NEW ONES DON"T FIT"" & I'm 100 miles from NO Where to get another set !!! Call the Wrecker !!! Another great video & Have a great rest of the week !!! Bailey sure likes to jump around !! HAHA
For the record I said not to cut. If you cut and have the wrong belt you can't drive to the store and get a new one or go to work the next day until you can get the right part or fix a stripped bolt or whatever. Once you cut you're committed.
Just a question for the flatbedders here . With the green pipes that were moving , would it have been feasible to run a couple straps under that bundle , then over the top and tie the 3 stacks together while still using the other straps to anchor to trailer ? Essentially making the 3 stacks of piping one unit so to speak .
I like the red tarp!! It looks sharp on the truck. Better than the Black or Blue. Just my opinion lol. Your so funny Dan!!! Lmao You keep saying hold on lie we are going somewhere lol. We like watching you do stuff... Man the questions you get from people. The Americans who always are wanting a short cut. America land of super rich Astronauts and the others short cutting there way thru life. Lol There’s no free lunch or Santa Claws!! I would think you would want to keep a set just in case your out and lose a belt or maybe a couple of belts? If you took the advise of the viewers you might not know how to put them on and get back running. Thanks Dan be safe.
Great work…slow n steady wins race…Check re-check etc. Like mentioned belt could be wrong etc. Ya inspect pulleys a little closer too and can spot leaks also or other problems. Like the way ya operate and get the job done. Stay safe…
wife and I were riding around coming back on a road that dead ended. I had spotted this milk crate when we first went by. so on the way back I pulled over had my wife toss it into the bed of my truck. she just rolled her eyes.
Dan try doubling up your bottom blocks on the front of the load and the back of load it will tilt everything to the middle of the trailer and hold it tight . I would do it with lumber and it held it well.
the only loads i ever had that moved were bulk loads, loads you couldn't use load locks on like loose potatoes which i took to Texas and alfalfa pellets destined for Japan from Utah. it was cool though how they unloaded the trailers at both facilities.
I make you right on the fan belts. They are shorter at the start of their life, so I would think everything you undo to get them off has to be undone to replace them unless you are really going to lean on a tensioner pulley. So what's the issue?
i always saved my old belts and stored them under the sleeper, never knew when u might need one of them. saved my butt one time out along the road at night yet to boot. never cut a good belt-
