Hi Mark, Being of an age where working under the baseboard is nearly a ‘no no’ I have developed three ways of installing Seep motors from above. 1. I prep the wiring are you have so clearly illustrated. 2. I have made a jig to identify the fixing holes for the point motor above the baseboard. 3. I drill and csk clearance holes for 4BA csk screws. I ‘tap’ the holes in the motor base 4BA (The holes as purchased are the correct size for tapping). 4. Offer up the Seep motor from below and hold in place with a crock clip. 5. Fit the 4BA screws and retain with A pair of 4BA full nuts, lock-nutted together. Alternatively, I have also glued the screws into the csk holes thus creating a stud onto which the nuts are fitted. An other alternative is to super glue One (1) nut centrally over the fixing hole and ensure the csk screw can be accessed from above for long term access. This last method I use for points long term clear of any obstructions. These methods work for me being a much more comfortable options for those wanting to avoid working from below the boards. Happy Modelling T🚂

Thanks for the tips, I have just started a new layout and dicovered a jig from scenic 3D, it makes the job much easier.

It is when you interduce point motors and extra wiring for reliability.

In your video where you installed a double switch point, how did you get the power from the outside rail to the inside rail for the engine to cross over from one loop to another with out changing controlers.
@DonegalDadRail
@DonegalDadRail 4 месяца назад
I am using DCC so the wiring is a bit simpler. If you are using DC then you will need a double pole switch to switch over the power. The peco double slip comes with instruction for this on the back.

Hi Mark. Did you remove the springs from each end of the double slip before installing the point motors
@DonegalDadRail
@DonegalDadRail Год назад
No I didn't remove the springs you usually only do that on slow action motors. I was using solenoid point motors.

Great video, keep them coming. I'm new to model rail and I'm practicing the electrics on a 4x2 board prior to getting my train room. Please, if I may ask, what size heat shrink do you use and where do you get it from, I'm only using 7/0.2 wire for my point motors, is the the size you are using ? In anticipation of your help cheers and regards.
@DonegalDadRail
@DonegalDadRail 2 года назад
Thank you Grant, yes I use the same size wire. This is the heat shrink I use. www.rapidonline.com/unistrand-1-6mm-x-1-2m-heat-shrink-sleeve-black-03-2340 I have some other sizes too for going over resistors.

hi this is the best video I have BUT it’s the last bit of wiring I am having trouble with. The droppers from the centre of the double slip - Do you split them so that they go into both switches or how does it work? I am using DCC but points and slips being run off a separate DC supply through panel and CDU
@DonegalDadRail
@DonegalDadRail Год назад
Hi Tim the double slip I was using was an insulfrog version. So the droppers went on to the bus to supply the double slip power. Like you the motors are power via a CDU.

@@timfellows8334 If you mean the droppers from the frogs they goto the switch on the point motors. What point motors are you using?
@timfellows8334
@timfellows8334 Год назад
@@DonegalDadRail the kit I am using is gaugemaster prodigy but take power for points off a separate power source. PECO code 100 track, SEEP PM1. I have electro frog points but insulfrog slips. For the points, normal red & black droppers from the track which I put straight onto the switch on D and E and frog wire onto F and all works well. With the slips and two switches, not sure where the droppers from slip go to and where the red and black from switches F and E go?
@DonegalDadRail
@DonegalDadRail Год назад
@@timfellows8334 The droppers for power connect to the DCC supply. Connections on the seep PM1 A and B go to the switch C is the common for the switch, D and E connect to the DCC supply and F connects to the Frog.
