hello reggie came accros your channel when searching ecos.watched you solve my problem with double slip simple also wasn't going to use accessories until you showed it wasn't anything to be afraid of thank you
Hi Keith, that's great to know that my video helped you with your double slip, I hope it helps other too, as that's how I solve many of the problems I have on the layout - by watching other modelers channels! And once you do a couple of accessories on the Ecos it is very straightforward, would be a shame not to use the many functions the Ecos has! Cheers Reggie.
Ha! yes it is - mine is a slightly older version which I got for a lower price as it was the last one, but yes they are not cheap - they are good though!
Just bought one of these for my loft layout and found this video - THANK YOU!! I now understand what I need to do. Have also subscribed to your channel. Cheers Ian
Hi Ian, thanks for your kind comment and sub. This is the great thing about RU-vid - a mine of information to help us all. I watch lots of videos that help me on the layout too! Will post more videos soon. Cheers Reggie
Just come across your great video as was searching for how to install and setup a Peco SL-90 double slip on my Ecos controlled DCC layout. I have a question that you maybe able to help me with: If I am using DCC concept Cobalt point motors (i.e. not solenoid type of point motors, are there any springs to remove from the SL-90 point? I cannot see any similar to other Peco points that I have installed . Regards, Alf.
Hi Alf, Thanks for your comment, glad you found the video useful. From memory I cannot recall removing any springs from the SL-90, as the point makeup is quite different from other points. If there is no obvious cover for a spring I would say not. Sorry I can't be more certain! Cheers Reggie
@@brayworthpark5542 Thanks Reggie for the speedy response to my removal of any springs on the SL-90 if using the cobalt slow motion motors question. I had a good look for any similar to other Peco point removable covers that hide the centering springs on the SL-90, but like you I couldn't see any, also when operating the tie-bars by hand I thought I could detect the slight intervention of a spring that applied a slight bit of force to overcome any tendancy to return to it's starting point?...so thought I'd ask someone using slow-mo motors with theirs to see if they managed to get good operation of the point without worrying about presence(or not) of any springs... Cheers, Alf
@@AlfK661 Np problem Alf, I've sometimes forgotten to remove springs from ordinary points after fitting and they can easily be removed afterwards, I will have a look tonight on my layout to see if it jogs my memory! Cheers Reggie
Reggie, I've managed to find the tiny tiebar springs in my SL90 under some extra illumination and some strong spectacles to assist my 70 year old weakening eyes,, and managed to take a good pic of it's situation but can't work out how to remove them😢.... how do I get the pic to you?
Hi Alf, I had a look at my SL90 and can't see where springs were or if there were any. I think the best thing is post your query on RM Web Forum, I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will advise you! Cheers Reggie.
Hi Reggie, Just subscribed having found your channel. Interested to see your layout in the loft as you have the same challenge as I do with the loft beams getting in the way off everything! We share many similar ideas, I use the ECos and all switched points using a mix of MegaPoint and Cobalt switches. I like what you have done with the scenics. Great fun with the double slips, wiring and Ecos. I have a number of double slips on the layout and had quite a lot head scratching but opted for back to back single throws like you did. Will keep tuned in to follow as you progress. Have a look at my layout at Woodsetts Central. Regards Barry
Hi Barry, Thanks for your comment and sub, yes we have similar layouts and ideas! I am pleased I've gone from the seep point motors to the Colbalt IP Digitals, so much better. The double slip, I set up the 2 x turnouts (501 & 502) on the Ecos, then used the same address as the first turnout for the double slip symbol (501) and it works great! The Ecos is a great unit imo. Have subbed your channel. Cheers Reggie
Just came across your channel. Please may I suggest that you pay some attention to your record levels. I had to turn my volume levels to maximum to hear your interesting talk. regards
Hello Reggie, I recently came across your channel and this video re the Peco double slip. I'm just about to start laying track for my first layout and I too have an SL-90 insulfrog double slip. My understanding was that insulfrog slips and points didn't need the frogs to be wired, as you would for an electrofrog slip / point. Please could you explain to a beginner why you chose to undo Peco's wiring and wire the frogs like an electrofrog device? Was it because of a reported problem with insulfrog frogs where some people have had issues with wheels shorting between the two insulfrog frog rails? Many thanks, Vernon
Hi Vernon, thanks for your sub and question. The main reason I wire like this is for reliability. By modifying the wiring as per electrofrog and taking the wire to the point motor you are not relying on the switch blades for the frog power. This gives far better running and reliability imo . Your point motor must have power switching facility, such as a Seep motor, or the DCC Concepts ones I used. I hope this helps. Regards Reggie
Why do you insulate the slip turnout from the rest of the track? If the wheel flanges do not short the frog rails, why do this? As it is an insulfrog has correct connections with positive and negative rails throughout the turnout.
