540 to 1000 PTO shaft change on JD 4430 

good info !!! not much oil lost Thanks for the vid never seen the swap out.. I run my 4040 for cutting and the old 706 spinning a jd 566 @ 1000 pto rolling it up.. Hope old 706 keeps going now i know

My 1971 870 case.u pull out flip around.

Park the tractor on a hill with the back end on the top of end of hill. So when you switch shafts little to no oil will spill out.

I have 30 and 40 series JD tractors. Most change exactly like this video and are no trouble. But I have probably cursed away 1/2 a lifetime changing my 4040 in either direction. Like was mentioned already, parking on a slight hill with the rear in the air helps. Not sure what is up with the 4040? Everything else on it runs fine.

is your 1000 pot shaft longer than the 540 ?

4955 model has a 540 rpm pto?

There’s also a bushing on the end of the 540 shaft make sure you don’t drop it off when swapping the bushing stays on the 540 shaft always if I’m correct more experienced guys may tell me if this is correct?
