Thanks so much for posting this video. My tv had a similar issue but if I left the tv on it would almost like "warm up" and then the screen was fine until I turned it off for the night. It was very frustrating since some days it took 5 minutes and other days 45 mins for the screen to "show up." I was lost for a solution until I saw this video. Replacing the t-con board worked right away on my TCL 55 inch! What a life saver!
The fact that many people have had this problem and TCL is aware of it but does nothing is infuriating. Thank you for this video and for saving me hundreds of dollars!
Thank you so much. I too am tired of being "told" what we can and can't figure out together. I love your video, ordered my parts from the place shown on yours. Thanks bro, you mad a 70 yr old man happy. You need a great THANK YOU for sharing, this makes me proud to live in the USA............
Thanks! TV just died today so this was helpful. I always like to see someone else take apart their tv before i do the same and this is the same model I have.
I have this same issue on my 75 inch Roku. It started acting up after 10 months and then did this exact thing after 13 months and tcl did nothing to help me. Worst company ever. Never again will I get any of their cheap crap. Thanks for this video though. Now I know how to fix mine and sell it immediately
This was a great video. Your comments about the power supply and the capacitors holding power were hilarious. I have the same problem with my TCL tv right now. After watching your video I didn’t even contemplate not changing the power supply too. It’s too easy for a small short from the power supply to mess up the card so I’d rather spend a few extra bucks now and get the probable root cause.
Homie, thank you! My old tv, a 42 inch Heir stopped turning on completely, so I found my old tenets 55 inch tv which has the exact same problem, I was thinking of hiring a repair guy, but since I was able to build my own pc I figured I would do some research and came across your vid, I'll try what you did and I'll see if it fixes it.
I appreciate man I'm going to try that on my TV when I bought it from a used store the picture was just fine I got it home the picture was blue I must have messed something up and transport but I can hear it and I got back lights at least it looks like on one side I got a totally blue screen I'm talking dark blue but it's for my daughter so I'm going to give it a try I appreciate you sharing with us
My tv has the same problem only thing is that it only has the right side of the screen like that. Chatted with customer support from shop Jimmy and they told me it was the tcon board. I looked up a video and yours came up. Going to order the part and fix it when it arrives
@@sirdaymo just watched the video from shop Jimmy and yeah they just switched the board and used the old ribbon connectors. Thanks for having this video without it I wouldn't know what the problem of my tv would of been
My screen had some lines going through it and I saw I had to disconnect the flex cables and the black cable I did so but after reconnecting them it just left me with the black screen issue do you think replacing the t con board will fix my issue of the black screen and lines?
Sir, we have a 55s425 and the main board cable that would run to the TCON goes right into a long circuit strip at the base. Seems our model (even though ordering parts says different), does not have any visible tcon at all. Very weird. Any suggestion since we have backlit and sound but no picture on where to find this TCon location before buying a new tv or are we screwed?
Hi I need help with no sound on my element roku tv. Do you have a tutorial for that. Yes I did all the trouble shooting already and factory reset. Not working
I have this exact issue, replaced the TCon which didn't work. Then tried replacing all other boards as well. The problem is still there. I got my kit from Shop Jimmy as well but it didn't come with cables. Could it just be cables? Any tips on finding the right ones?
My screen turns on but there’s no picture just super cloudy and I bought a new tcon board and it still doesn’t work. Do you have an idea of what’s wrong?
My TCL 55 inch doesn't have the T-con board when I remove the service panel...is it possible that it's on the bazel/screen side ? It looks rather complex to service...thanks for this video ! Really awesome seeing how easy the work can be...
I have a 55" TCL Roku. (I'm pretty sure it's the exact same as yours.) The other day, I turned it on and had no picture. I have sound and I can hold a flashlight up to the screen and see the image. I'm not sure if it's the Tcon board that you just replaced or the actual LED strips themselves. (I'm hoping it's just the board.) Is there a way to test the boards and see if they are working? Like with a multi meter or something? I just don't want to buy them and replace and find out it's the actual LED strips instead... Any advice helps, thanks!
It's not your Tcon board. It could be your LED strips or the inverters for the LEDS located on the power supply. You can use a multi meter to check but be careful. I would start with changing the power supply and if that doesn't work move on to the LEDs. I recommend after the fix or on any TV run your brightness at the lowest settings possible it helps with the lifespan of the LEDs.
try this 1st press the home button 5 times then the up button once then the rewind twice then fast forward twice wait for a couple minutes it will reboot and you may have gotten lucky.
@@Tay58382 I tried the reboot with the remote. That's the first thing I did and unfortunately it didn't work. When it reboots or turns on you can see the screen flash for a split second before it goes blank again. I'm hoping it's just power supply to the strips.
Mine 55 tcl roku tv went out Christmas day 2019. Ive been researching a lot. I did the flash light test to and say a image. So im going to replace the powersupply bord.
What are the chances that if you replace the T-Con board without replacing the power supply, the power supply will ruin the new T-Con board? What typically causes the T-Con board to go bad?
Heat, faulty components on t-con board, power surge, ribbon cable, loss of power to t-con board.. If you're unsure if the power supply caused it to fail. you can change it with the t con board there's no rules stating that you can't.
I have a 55s405 and I had a problem with screen turning on just like yours. When I bought a replacement Main and Power board to see if that was the issue I found no t-con board inside my tv. I guess they put it under the back plate
55" TCL 55r615 here. TV works flawlessly except on the right side of the screen every few seconds the screen will get slightly shaded for 1 second and repeat. Sometimes the shaded section will start from the top and scroll down horizontally for a 1/3 of the screen and repeat. I can't figure out if this is a board problem or a screen problem. Any advice?
@@sirdaymo Thanks, I was thinking of cleaning the contacts with alcohol first. Is it safe to test (turn on) without the back cover on? I assume it is as long as it is unplugged while actually unplugging any cables.
Changed out the boards but was wondering how to get the TV hooked back up to the internet service so I can sync the TV with the Roku remote app on my phone since I lost the original remote that came with the Tv.
Good video!! I have the 55s401.Replaced the tcon board and tv started working again:BUT if i leave tv off for a. few hours and turn it back on , The lines reappear and i have 2 keep connecting and reconnecting lvds cable to videoboard for it 2 start working again 😒 ANY SUGGESTIONS?THNX
55" 2020 TCL -- When turning on with remote: Lower power light turns off, Sound and control is present and backlighting briefly flashes at the bottom of the TV but screen remains black. Is this T-Con or LEDs?
I have the 55S515 and there is no TCON board from what I can tell. There is it looks 2 small boards that connect together at the bottom of the panel. But I do not find what they are or a part to replace them.I do have backlight when it is on. I have tried resetting w/ the remote and the small reset button on the back. I have replaced the 3 things that come in a kit for it. Power supply, wifi and main board. I am still only getting the back light. HELP!! I have no desire to replace this tv that is only 2 years old
I have a 32 tcl version. The problem with mine is that the tv comes on but it stays on the title screen for a while then goes black for a second then back to the title screen and it repeats just like this. I’m thinking it’s the main board. Interested on your thoughts.
@@sirdaymo I tried that and it didn't work. I am going to replace the main board and see what happens after all it only cost $10 I should be getting it on Thursday. I'll let you know what happens afterwords.
Can we get a link to this package because I can’t find anything on the page... do the letters of the model number matter? Because mine says 55s405TBAA but when I search for Tcons all I see is 55s405TBCA and not double a
www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-55s401-service-no-55s401tcaa-complete-tv-repair-parts-kit.htm Make sure the part number printed above the serial number sticker on the t con board matches yours.
I'm having a problem with my own TCL TV where the television will freeze and there will be a bunch of artifacts on the screen and will restart sometimes. I assume a board replacement will fix it but I am unsure of which board is causing the issue. How would I diagnose this? Thank you!
I got a t-con replacement for my tv. The picture looks great, but I’m still getting the dark flash blink on the left side of the screen. Only way to fix this is by lowering the backlight all the way down to 20. How can this be fixed?
How do you know if it's the T-Con Board or the main board, ours just started doing this, i have no picture, have sound, backlights are there, can hear the movement when you use the remote, tried rebooting it and even factory resetting to no avail. the Kit from jimmys is out of stock so i'm stuck getting parts on my own, i'm use to working on PC's i was hoping this wouldn't be to different. My issue is i'm not sure if it's the T-Con or if it's the main board, the power supply i think is fine.
Every lcd/led TV I've worked on of mine always resulting in it being the T-con board ( sound, backlights but no pictures)TCL is good for this flaw. Only on a rare "very rare" occasion the cable from the main board to T-con is at fault but I doubt it. You can check the cable for power. If you can't find the kit at shopJimmy.com, Walmart has just the T-con board on their website. Just search Walmart website for t-con board and your t-con board number
@@sirdaymo Thanks for the response, yea i'm gonna try this and hope it works. I don't really have 500 bucks laying around, but i've worked on enough PC's this doesn't look that difficult so im gonna give it a go, appreciate the response.
@@sirdaymo hey sirdaymo. I ordered from shopjimmy and replaced the Tcon. Instead of being really distorted, it now goes to a dark blue/black screen but can still hear the sound. The “new” replacement tcon was slightly damaged. It also didn’t come with the new blue ribbons . You think if i order one that is 100% intact it will work right
@@sirdaymo it came like that . I found this tcl 403 55 inch in the trash and been trying to get it to work . I think it being damaged wasn’t the main issue . I think I simply was delivered the wrong parts. So I ordered one that is exactly the same, not mostly the same. I’ll keep you updated. Thank you
Hi !!! I thought I will have the same problem .. because I still have the sound, black screen(not totally black but u can see its on in the dark), I changed the T-Con board but still no picture... by any chance do you have any idea why still doesn’t work :/ Best regards
I have the TCL 55s405, but I don't have that T-Con board. There's nothing there between the power supply and main board...that cable from the main board runs to a long and thin board that goes across the bottom of the TV. Anyone have any advise on this?
I have the same TV with same issue. 55s405 with no center tcom board. Anyone have any advice on what to do next would be appreciated! I cant find any info on this
@MikeyBIH what was your TV doing before you tried this fix? Did you check the ribbon cables to your screen? Did you check the voltage on the boards where the t-con connect to the screen
You might have already figured this out! But I ordered the big kit from shopjimmy and the only board that didn't fit was the t-con board. The kit came with ST5461D04-1-C-7 and I needed ST5461D07-8-C-1, so watch out! I didn't pay attention to what the kit came with completely. I recommend taking the back off your TV and looking, just to be sure.
