Needs a new intake temperature sensor, computer doesn’t know it’s cold so it’s not changing the timing my old classic never took more than 2-3 seconds to start no matter how cold it was!
My favorite engine. People outta see 20 of them start at the same time on a 10 degree morning LOL. I miss the old 60 series like we used to have. I work for a company daycab operation and they were replaced with the new garbage DD15 Cascadias.
I got a 03 12.7 550. Been parked for 3.5 years. Popped some batteries in it. Got it ready. She was mad for a little bit but we been running around for a month today. No problems 1.5 million on it
I would make sure you have someone that knows the check it out. It’s awesome you have that kind of mileage, but it would suck to have the block destroyed because something failed. Bull gear is a common failure on higher mileage units. I bet that engine sounds great! I’d love to see some video of it in action.
@@user-ln7of9gs4s I wouldn’t even be proud to run something with over a million miles in it. I would be running scared because I know something is going to break real soon.
This is why I love the Series 60. I've driven Cummins ISX, Cat C15, even Volvo D13. But the Detroit just doesn't know the meaning of the word die. My dad had 2 DDS60 powered Fords while I was growing up. The trucks fell apart around the engines! Only reason he got rid of either was because of electrical issues (Ford/Sterling trucks are notorious for it). But the Detroits still ran strong.
What a delightful exhaust pipe, probably the most beautiful I've ever seen. This is how every diesel should smoke, with delicious smoke that can contain 3 colors if you pay attention. The delicious black, the delightful blue and the cleanest smoke: white. The more smoke and poison comes out, the better it smells. So there can't be enough of that delicious smoke coming out, which is also heavily addictive and smells better than the most expensive perfume.
owned it 6 years always stared it this way with it even being way colder,so untill that day comes witch im sure it never will, ill start my truck how i feel
@@alexblackwood8465 When you push the clutch in you disconnect the clutch plate from the flywheel. This completely releases the transmission from the engine. Thus it reduces drag.
Can’t wait until they really work all the knots out of Biodiesel. I’d love to keep the old iron around without having to put so much garbage in the air
Awesome Awesome Awesome dude.....I like all your cold starts. This truck is perfect, prob my fav truck on RU-vid so far...smokes good like a diesel should....nice look to it....looks like a upper bed set up with a nice view out that window up high......love the sight of a smoking truck like this and what would be even cooler would to be there immersed in its stench....you r one lucky dude! Ic we r only 4 hours away from each other....hmu sometime if u wana chat
Should push the clutch while starting, and when motor cold I always leave it run 15 mins idle before putting on the high idle, to give time for expansion of seals,
15 minutes at low idle in cold weather when you are trying to warm up the engine does more damage to your cylinders, rings, and pistons. Crank it to 1,000 rpm after the black smoke clears up and it will heat up the engine faster. I work on these engines for a living.
that engine a few years ago dont like the detroits.....but now karma did his job and put a detroit diesel 12.7 in my truck guess what? now i love those engines far well is the best engine i ever use.....karma is a bitch..
Had no idea at the 550 number but after this I did tons of work to the motor and had it putting out 750HP At the fly wheel and 702HP to the ground at 2650lb-ft of torque
@@psychoticgamers13 super impressive! Plan to buy an XLC midtop w/series 60 but was concerned with their factory rated 1650 torque #. I won't build a monster like you lol but I'm pleased to know their tq can be improved
Cambiele el chek valve tiene aire en la tapa de cilindros y saque el filtro de diesel secundario y llenelo con 911 aditivo para diesel y va a arrancar sin humo blanco
seems like ur fuel is little on the thick side. During winters in Colorado i do 5 gallons of gas mixed with one gallon of oil. it will start in temps under 0 with no cranking fires right up. there ware times where i would forget to plug it and starts right up
ahh the sound of a lot of pots banging these engines, where this trinket !, and always when you give the cold start presurise the pump manually injection to take the air inside it , that the mechanical pumps
i had freightliner Coronado 2006 mechanic repaired head cylinder and mainbering when he finished i came start after 3days and try to start but it start like this truck, i told him mechanic am not pickup truck starting like this pls fixed good,he said it is Normal they call cold start, is that true because i never drive series60 before
Very few on highway heavy duty engines had glow plugs, you'll find them in old tractors and older light duty engines. Just about every current generation heavy duty diesel engine since the first decade of the 2000s has a grid heater in the intake manifold of the engine to aid in cold starts.
ya it was a 430-500 from factory just tuned it and turned fuel pump up and removed waste gate,so its at 550 and 53 pounds of boost, back when this video was made now its around 750HP with bigger turbo, bigger cam and tons of other shit
Detroit actually made a 550 HP. I have a 2001 Western Star Constellation, it has a 550/575 HP from the factory. They only made them a couple of years. When you PDI them they're a beast. Most are 470, 500, 515 and a 600.
@@quewat3676 check out Detroit Power. I had mine done. 2-9 settings. On nine setting I burned my clutch and broke the shaft. Close to 1,000 HP. If you want.
