What is an Astable Multivibrator:
An astable multivibrator, also known as a free-running multivibrator, is an electronic circuit that continuously alternates between two different output voltage levels without requiring any external triggering. It operates as a waveform generator producing square wave output waveforms that continually switch between high and low states. This circuit is widely used in applications such as flashing LEDs or generating tones for speakers.
555 Timer Astable Multivibrator:
The 555 timer can be set up in its astable mode to produce a square wave signal of a specific frequency and duty cycle. To make our 555 timer act as an astable multivibrator, we just need to connect two external resistors and a capacitor in series, The construction is explained in this video. We don't need an external switch in this mode because the switching is automated.
Time Period 'T' = 0.693 (R1+R2) C,
Duty Cycle = R1/R1+R2.
