I discovered this channel because of the Johnny Football take. It was, and still is, the most in-depth, detailed take on Manziel ever. Subbed right after. No one does a better job of explaining / analyzing football than Zac.
That documentary made everything make sense about his career. Dude straight up says he did not want to put in the work and was only in it so he could party and be famous. He made a comment about how he didn't feel the same "comradery" that he did in college but I think that was solely because of the fact that once you get to the NFL, guys have families and most of them take it very seriously. They're not having big frat parties after a win when you get to the NFL level. There's still comradery but it's just not the same as the kind Johnny was looking for.
When I heard, at the end, that he's only 29, & has bipolar disorder, which is usually not a lone diagnosis... I thought, "Youngblood's got some suffering to do yet... And quite a bit of it too. I wasn't diagnosed til 29! And I'm nearly 42 yrs old, I feel like I have the mindset of a 31, 32 yr old, tops... And I have to own that, barring some kind of unreal, legit divine intervention... I am, & will die, a guy who was born with tons of talent, took it for granted thinking it'd always be there, & ultimately, did nothing w/it. Now the toxicity of BOTH of my parents... Yeah. Nevermind. I got lotsa sympathy for Manziel.💯
Fantastic Episode! The Johnny Manziel documentary while good, was disappointing to me because it felt like Johnny never accepted any of his mistakes were his. I think Johnny is honestly still very much in the midst of his battle with depression. Acceptance is a very crucial step in mental health recovery, and it feels like Johnny has still not accepted that many of the things that ruined his NFL career were his decisions and his decisions alone. I was waiting for the own up, and the I will do better but it never really came and ultimately that made this documentary end on a somber tone for me. Great vid man!
Nate lives in Kerrville, Texas, where he grew up, works for his mothers family business, good kid, my son graduated with Manziel and Fitch from Tivy High School. Fact: Nate was a good football player in his own right, that's where the connection to Manziel came from. Manziel became the starting QB when the coach's son got busted at a beer party that got raided, Manziel slipped out the back door and ran didn't get caught, so the legend begins, lol!! Darn fun to watch play football.
I really think we over look how young these guys are in these positions, being 18 years old and getting every thing you ever wanted at your fingertips, it’s very easy to ruin your life
I think Manziel knew he wouldn't be able to do in the NFL what he did in college... And going as a 1st round pick was the greatest achievement he'd ever pull off, which, he ultimately did!💯
Was away for a couple weeks and have spent the last few days since getting back catching up on SOS. Finally caught up yesterday before this episode uploaded. Went to say the SOS intro and got a nasty curveball and whiffed.
Personally I would say Ryan Leaf as a quarterback is the bigger bust. Nobody will remember Johnny in history down the line he was picked in the 20s. I think Johnnys a closer comparison to Todd Marinovich “Marijuanavich” who went 24th. If you dont know who that it is. Point proven with Johnny. Todd had arguably more hype than Johnny as he was supposed to be the test tube athlete
i don't really get the argument that Jonny should have been given more money for what he did in college. Texas A and M gave him full scholarship and gave him the platform. Make your money in the NFL, that was the system
The argument is that his market value was way higher, as evidenced by the money he got for writing autographs. So the NCAA was depriving him of his market worth, which is an anti-trust violation. Hence why NIL now exists and direct salaries soon will exist, because these guys function as professional athletes. The coaches and administrators get to be professionals. Everyone involved gets to get rich except the players. Glad those days are almost completely over
@@thomasopp9104 Sure. A new system is better, but he knew what the system was before he went to college. I don't blame him for making his money on the side, but people act like they are owed money from the colleges. i dont believe thats true
That wasn't his 40 time at the combine. It was 4.6...something. His straight away speed was never even what made him a star. It was his lateral speed and slipperiness that made him exceptional. He had a nack for never taking a straight on hit and making people miss. He also had a heck of an arm, and and ability to make everone around him play better.
How much do y’all think manziel would be making from the NIL if the rules applied when he was at A&M. My guess he would easily been making back up nfl qb money at Texas
From a person who lives in the valley metroplex if your living in Scottsdale especially the house he has he’s most definitely doing pretty well he may not be a muti millionaire but HE’S FOR SURE MAKING 6 FIGURES cuz that type of house he living in AIN’T CHEAP AT ALL
I don't think he's necessarily making any new money. He certainly doesn't have a job. He might still be living off of money he has. It seems he's supporting an entourage, too, so I don't see it lasting for the rest of his life
Manziel put up not one but two of the greatest statistical seasons in college football history. One game is a fluke. Two full seasons is a great athlete and he did it while drunk. To say he’s not a good athlete over his 40 time is silly.
@@haltidwell6275 8-4 and that’s ridiculous. He was statistically better his Sophomore year. He couldn’t play defense too and that’s why the TEAM lost games.
@@blueodum you didnt understand OPs comment. He said he was a great athlete, not a great QB. I think the fact that he was able to be as good as he was despite not having sound QB mechanics is even more of a testament to just how athletic the dude was.
The amount of people that were believers in manzel was too funny, you don’t even have to watch the documentary to know the train wreck of a football career manziel had
The NIL was definitely good for some of the girls, who have a big Instagram following. Guys like Tim Tebow or Vince Young, should have raked in college. For someone like Manziel, I don't think that much money would've ended very well for him. I completely agree that he used alcohol as an escape.
@@sidsrivastava6987 then he played some actually good teams and ate shit. The only man I ever seen do a pocket spin with no pressure just to throw it out of bounds
He was his own worst enemy. The crappy NCAA had these rules back in the day,. He was drafted high in the draft, didn’t show up to practice, never looked at the playbook, and was a jerk. Now, he’s a pathetic example of the modern day athlete. There’s a guy who is sleeping under a bridge who wishes he had Johnny Football’s problems. Maybe his former teammates didn’t want a thing to do with him which may be may be why they did not participate in this documentary. Brady was taken in the sixth round, was the third or fourth QB at Michigan did what he needed to do to be the best in the game. Johnny Football was a fraud from day zero.
Manziel is still laughing at how he Fooled everyone. Highly overated guy. Never won a State Championship in high school. Never won a Division championship. 2 losses his freshman year. 4 losses his sophmore year. Houston and Dallas pass him by in the draft. Knew what he was. He fooled Cleveland. Took the money and ran.😂😂😂😂😂😂
I mean, got the Heisman as a Freshman. That's something not more than 2 guys can say. That's high up there in terms of success. I don't know what you're laughing at because you probably never won a title either. It's very hard to win a State title in HS. Even if you're a 4/5-star it's hard to win anything if you don't have great teammates around you.
I remember the Johnny football craze. The doc was good, but makes me think…man the browns are such a terrible organization. But MORE importantly, sports media is terrible, they fall for this, they fall for manti teo, they fall for “ballsacksports” twitter. Terrible.
I dont understand how he got drafted so high he was a 5-11 QB with good but not great arm talent and wasnt a really skilled player in Colllege he would scramble alot didnt have great accuracy or ball placement and of course his work ethic and character issues
@@gridiron8870 Yeah it’s kind of wild to think looking back on it. Even without the off the field issues, it wouldn’t have probably worked. But this was before the Pat Mahomes and Josh Allens were coming out each year with canons for arms. Manziel was an exciting college player that any fan base would’ve probably been happy to have at the draft.
@@garfieldGG Josh Allen wasnt the best QB in college but he has a huge arm and hes Athletic and hard to tackle a good QB but not elite If i had Manziel as a QB i would just run RPOs Bootleg Waggle Sprint Out
What happened is he’s neurodiverse and lost interest. He’s totally neurodiverse. Vanity fair field of nightmares his parents tak about him running around as a kid smashing his head off walls. And college is wayyy bigger than nfl. money now too
