Everyone watching this video is willing to spend 20 minutes analyzing Johnny Manzel. Zac Shomler must have spent more than 20 minutes analyzing Manzel to make this video. Just sayin... :p
>> Strong Opinion Sports, the only man willing to spend 20 minutes analyzing Johnny Manzel That's because the little shit doesn't deserve 20 minutes from anybody.
Haven't watched the video yet. Just posted why I feel Johnny failed in the NFL. I'm going to make a guess here though. "Middle of the field throw"... that mile-high, looked like a Punt, to no one in particular that Mike Evans snags against Bama? It's the one I cite every single time, so I'm assuming it's going to be the one you are referring to.
This makes me realize how truly amazing Vick was. He may have not lived up to his potential, but those years in Atlanta where he would escape like this at the NFL level is just incredible.
Yeah because he's good and it's not some Plummer commercial every other minute like the evil four letter ESPN or fox. They're full of commercials and makes the shows impossible to enjoy or follow...
@@larryjohnny weird its literally there only place that covers local sports....ESPN is trash has been for a decade. While I enjoy podcasts and this gentlemen is refreshing. That 12 to 5 block on the radio is amazing.
No it's not. The masses of morons won't watch this and will continue to eat up all the sports talk radio hype and nonsense. You can still see them today....wondering why Scam Newton isn't being signed. (He's the greatest QB ever! He's Superman!!) Thinking Brady is going to lead the Bucs to the Superbowl!!!! (It's a lock!!! GOAT!!)
Nic Ford don’t need to fabricate about Johnny. He was shit and the NFL, line with so many others, proved he was nothing more than a college Football player.
There were lots of people saying the exact same things well before Manziel was drafted. Completely ignored his off the field stuff (which I agree is largely bullshit) and talking only about his massive on-field flaws.
The point of my comment was that espn doesn't actually break down games much anymore. All they do is sit around and talk about whatever stories they can conjure up; or obsessively talk about headline stories. I like sports for sports, not dumb headlines.
Fantastic video. However, the indictment is truly on college football and how often mediocre players thrive and how poorly NFL scouts can be. I know college football is insanely popular, but defense is incredibly rare. Cardale Jones anyone?
Nah, dude deserved it, you can't take it away from him just because he wasn't a good NFL QB, he was never gonna be a good NFL QB, doesn't mean he wasn't a great College QB.
@@mjv40 As an eagles fan, he was like that for us but when he was with the falcons...... He was a running quarterback. He used to admit in interviews when he was with us that he wasn't working hard enough with the falcons.

The day he ran TOWARDS James Harrison while looking at his receiver, and for some odd reason he expected to NOT be hit, was the moment I knew, Johnny Football was too dumb to play NFL. .
Agent J he thought the NFL was the SEC but boy did he get a reality check in the NFL. It seems the less hyped players from college football have better careers than those how got attention being star player in the SEC.
he just wasn't that good a quarterback, his best attribute was his elusiveness, virtually all his highlights are broken plays and that just doesn't translate when that 250 pound lineman is now as quick as you and a lot more experienced. he was fun to watch but i knew he was fools gold as an NFL prospect. he got hyped because he had an impressive highlight reel and nobody really paid attention to the common theme of said reel, that he kept bailing on plays too early and/or missing open receivers, improvised and got big chunk plays on broken coverages
@@umphreak9999 i said it when he won heisman trophy, he wasn't going to cut it in the NFL, I literally watch Texas A&M had the best O-line I've seen in college football, I was confused why they weren't praising his o-line
@@DarkCreator98 same, being in iowa i saw a lot of Big 12 football thanks to ISU, when it came to draft time i was just baffled at how many analysts just seemed to ignore the gaping flaws in his game
Excellent writing man! If you had an editor to add more b-roll and some music, and cut down the video length to around 10-15min, you'd be getting millions of views 100% guaranteed. You're very talented. Keep it up!
Kevin Sumlin owes half his career earnings to Johnny Manziel and Case Keenum. He got the most prolific NCAA passer in history and then first freshman Heisman winner without recruiting either one of them.
Tebow beat Roethlisberger in the playoffs while throwing for 300+ yards. Next, he went at New England and struggled against Belichik’s defense. McVay can relate, lol! But then Tebow never started a game at QB again. Not even once. That isn’t right at all. He should’ve been given another job, and if he failed, he failed. But the NFL did him wrong.
Johnny Manziel is like someone playing an NCAA Football video game. Scrambles too much, never throws the ball away, takes unnecessary hits and throws dangerous balls on the run.
TheBeastAmongUs I’m a TAMU fan and I knew he wasn’t gonna be good in the pros. His arm is waaaay to far from where it needs to be for him to be a good qb. I was hoping he would start but I knew at best he would put up Ryan Tannehill type stats.
Basically to sum up this whole video Johnny was playing Madden on easy mode in college. And when he went to HOF difficulty in the NFL he couldn’t hold up.
It scares the shit out of me seeing so many great channels with dudes busting their asses getting only 20 views, cause that's where I'm at now and will be at for a long time... but it's nice to see examples of it paying off, to help keep me from giving into the urge to give up.
The real story is obviously the greatness of Mike Evans. He’s a superstar in the NFL (from day one) and Manziel fizzled out, that alone shows you what was actually happening at Texas A&M.
U know the scary thought is the difference between Johnny and Tom. Fundamentals vs athlete. College couldn't tell the difference or scouts. 7th round Brady possibly greatest ever and Johnny an updated Ryan Leaf. Is coaching really that good in football or is it a lot of repeats of that Patriots vs Colts fake punt fiasco.
I would really love to see a Carr breakdown. He’s a hot question currently as in “what is he really”? Seems bizarre after all these seasons, but the Raiders didn’t exactly made it easy for him.
Agreed. Its like I think he's average at best but then I think about him losing his OC and QBC after his great season and I think about the fact he's had a bottom 5 defense forever and I get confused on how I feel lol.
Corey and his no interception streak of 325 passes last season (only Brady and Rodgers are in front of him all time) showed GREAT decision making. Mind you; while throwing to the corpse of Jordy Nelson, Jared Cook and a couple of store clerks. There’s context to every INT. Especially the beginning of this season. It was obvious he was still learning Gruden’s version of the WCO.
Without Mike Evans Manzel would not have been nearly as good in college. It absolutely killed me as a Bama fan watching Evans catch jump ball after jump ball.
Besides Tom Brady mostly every good Qb has a great receiver can’t blame him for exploiting the greatness of mike Evans and they complemented each other wasn’t one sided
I swear I thought I was the only one in America that thought of this. In that bama game he was throwing it in triple or double coverage and Mike Evans came down with the ball. I couldn't believe everyone on espn was slurping this guy
Ngl I don’t usually comment on videos but I feel like your channel deserves it. I believe your content is better then most mainstream sports analysts because of your experience as a Qb and your detailed film analysis. Most ESPN personalities would just talk about his off the field problems but you bring examples of on the field problems. Keep up the good work love the show.💯
This is the best analysis of Manziel I've ever watched, and I watched EVERYTHING about him (graduated A&M 2012). The most salient phrase: "The guy just wasn't well-prepared." Johnny, at every level, was not good at taking care of his business. On the field, off the field, who cares. He just never approached the game like a pro.
Analysis two levels deeper than I have found anywhere else. I feel like eventually someone was going to productize deep, contextual, eloquent sports analysis and you are taking the lead on it. The hard work you are putting into these segments is the differentiating factor. Keep it up!
"Without his legs, he never would've been drafted." Agreed. There seems to be a huge bias towards legless QBs in the NFL and it should be addressed in the new CBA. (All kidding aside, awesome video, awesome analysis, love your content)
So true. Why can legless QBs not get a second look but armless QBs are all over the place? Do people really think it’s better to hold the ball in your mouth than flop around on the ground? It’s offensive and sad.
4 years later, still come back to this. It’s like ASMR. The way Zac explains things, a 7 yr old can understand. He should be one of the biggest analysts in football, not just RU-vid. He’s better than any of those clowns breaking down QBs on ESPN. Knowing he was drunk in that Duke game makes sense now. Maybe all the big games
Yeah I kinda of asked the same question. If professional analyst watched his film then what did they see in him? Why was he drafted in the first place?
I love how you tell his story with passion and conviction. You did a great job, I now have a different on Johnny and his ability. The NFL is full of stories about great college superstars that failed to make it in the league. The one thing that separates great college players and great pro athletes is the NFL exposes weakness in every player. Some players have too many to overcome.. love your blog
The depth of your analysis was amazing especially from someone so young. Often times the truth hurts, but it wouldn't surprise me if Johnny Manziel admitted, after a little soul searching, that you summarized his football career perfectly.
This is SO spot on. HUGE difference in a QB that can run and a Running QB. Manziel never had a good eye, not a strong or accurate arm. Look at film and you will never see him thread the needle. And when he would try, never made it. Overhype for sure and fell victim to his own overhype.
@@producedbykhireyakeem4340 His two Pro Bowls were complete bullshit. 12-13 and 10-7 were his TD-INT stat lines for his two "Pro Bowl" seasons. He was an extremely limited QB who couldn't read defenses and had an overly simplified play book.
I have a Tebow Theory. First off, let's give him props. Team was like a disaster over the time he was Drafted to the time he finally Started, and he goes something like 8-4 and 1-1 in the Play Offs. And this was the year BEFORE Denver had a great Defense, statistically they were an Average Defense for Tebow. Kid Won ugly. People want to point to the Pats cutting him. Of course they do. Tim Tebow simply isn't accurate enough to Win with a Precision Offense. What he needs, is ugly. What he needs is a (at that time) Jax, Cleveland, Oakland... and yes, at that time Denver qualified. He needs a scrappy defense that isn't going to just lay down, because it's got to stay close. And he needs a Running Game, and he's going to help out a lot there. If you are a Bad Team, and you can't win with a Traditional Offense... you have 2 Choices. Beat your head against the wall, pray you get a QB in the Draft that allows you to run said 'Traditional Offense'. Or... get a Tebow and say to hell with Traditional. Break out Wild Cats. Break out EVERYTHING. And have a gritty, gutty QB that can Run, that can Lead, and that can sling it deep to a prayer when things break down. Tebow checks all three boxes. As soon as Denver decided to up the ante on Traditional, some one like Jax or Cleveland should have said "We suck doing it this way... let's try something DIFFERENT" and signed the man. He's an NFL WINNER, with a good PTD:INT Ratio and a great TD:TO Ratio. He scores points and doesn't give the ball to the bad guys. But he can't operate an Offense that requires 60% Completion (or even 55%), because he just isn't accurate enough... and that's EVERY NFL OFFENSE now. So you have to buck that system for Tebow to really work long-term. Some one should have tried. Instead they kept saying "We suck at this Traditional Offense thing, and you aren't very accurate... so how about we force you to execute an offense where you need to be very accurate and where we've failed with every QB we've had at making it work! Great plan!"
@@theclimbto1 Dude, I have to be honest, I only watched a handful of Tebow's games but, almost every time I watched him, he had horrendous mechanics!!! Option and wildcat offenses are his forte, unfortunately, NFL teams rarely run those!!!
I listened to this whole podcast but wanted to come back and listen to the Johnny football segment because of how interesting it was. Good job man, keep up the good work.
Seriously better than the rest of these Televised scouts/analyst. You deserve some serious Air time my friend. Never stop with the informative content, this is your true profession. Salute
Great stuff man. You're not one of those guys who solely lists off stats, and you're not one of those guys who shares his opinions with no evidence to back it up, or solely tells stories. You're right there where you need to be, engaging enough to keep me listening, while also using enough research and information to back your points up that I actually feel like I've come away learning something from the video. P.S. Your analysis of Johnny totally reminds me of all those times in Flag Football when you would have the showboat kid pretending he couldn't find an open reciever, and scrambling back and forth while everyone is open until he tries to make a break away and get a first down! I absolutely hated those kids.
Manziel could only thrive in chaos. Watch all of his best plays. Scrambling, broken plays, escaping pressure. NFL resurrection to play on schedule and that wasn't his game at all. Never was gonna make it
Not only NFL, even CFL. CFL have less heavy hitters, but all of defensive backs are agile, very fast, Johnny can't run it out, and Montreal's o line just a piece of shit.
As an A&M student, and a long time A&M fan, I also have a lot of great memories of watching Johnny play. A lot of people forget how magical the guy was with the football in his hands. In my opinion the most entertaining college QB of all time. This is a great video though, thanks for sharing. I think you are 100% right about this stuff
My favourite breakdown of a QB that you've done so far 👏🏻 it seems as though the longer and more comprehensive the analysis, the better! Can't even imagine how long the research took for this episode - great job, Zac! 🆘
I honestly have no idea how I found your page, but MAN am I glad I did. I love all of your takes, the way you describe everything in layman's terms and your topics are always interesting. I also love that while you're talking about a play/player you have videos of said plays. I went and found your podcast and love that as well but your videos are perfectly entertaining. Keep up the amazing work!
watching johnny in college made me so hyped to see him in the nfl, now he comes into my work, it really is sad to see how once you mess up how far you could drop
Michael Carter Nah Vice would probably make it entirely about Kaepernick and none of the footage or content would be about football but BLM or some other politically polarizing shit
Haven't watched your channel since you were brand new (when you had multiple cameras). Really glad i watched again...no brainer sub. Great job. Excellent break down, well prepared, solid insight. Gotta be just a matter of time before things get really big for you. Awesome channel!
die hard browns fan and I was so pissed when we drafted manziel AKA Jonny Fuckboi. I hated him in college for his personality but I also thought he wasn't good. everything said in this video is what I have been saying for years. his entire "game" was running around in circles and then just chucking the ball downfield for mike evens to go up and grab. anyone who thought that was going to continue to work in the NFL should never analyze a football player ever again. I was even more pissed when the browns (for once in forever) were actually doing good in the 2014 season, Brian Hoyer was playing pretty damn good (especially compared to the trash we were used to seeing at QB) and had us with a 7-4 WINNING record!!! he beat the steelers 31-10. hoyer had two bad games in a row (he was essentially a rookie as a starting QB | also I thoroughly believe some of the reason he was having struggles was because he knew management was leaning on the coaching staff to put their new investment in the game and the dumb ass fans were clamoring to see their boy johnny get in the game) so they fucking benched him for manziel and we proceeded to not win a game the rest of the season finishing 7-9. fuck johhny fuckboi manziel.
Sometimes as Browns fans we're our own worst enemy. Reminds me of the Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn controversy. Fans just couldn't leave well enough alone (10-6 record in '07) and demanded changes be made at the first sign of struggle in '08 after drafting Brady. And so we got a QB benched in favor of a bust draft pick whose career was worse than the guy he replaced*. Hoyer should've kept the starting job. His record that year alone was better than what Manziel's entire career ended up being. * I'm not hating on Brady Quinn, just the fans and management that have their heads up their ass.
I started getting into football in 2013 when Derek Carr got drafted (he's from my hometown). I still have a lot to learn about the game and these videos really help out a lot. Thank you my man, these videos are amazing!
@@PoopyDoopy39 I'm talking about as far as how reads, coverages, style of plays and schemes go. I know how the game is played but not in depth as I do with basketball.
