You should take a look at line to line coatings. Might be worth getting them to coat a piston and do some testing. All the break in and blow by talk made me think of this.

This is different than the 55 Rancher thing. That was a "builder" challenge. This is more about each individual model of 60cc saw. All slots are filled. Except for a Stihl MS362. Gotta get one of those built for this competition by a known, high-end builder.
